Easter. Just the word brings back so many memories, doesn't it? I can still see my Easter basket. It was wicker with a wide purple ribbon woven through. How many of these Easter favorites do you remember?
Easter bonnets?
~ Yes, for me, and for my girls!
Coloring Eggs?
~ Yep, as a child. And again, as a mom. I still think of this when I smell vinegar. And the yellow never worked!
Cadbury Creme Eggs?
~Nope. Just Nope.
Easter Egg Hunts?
~ I never liked them as a child. I think I was not assertive enough! I always wanted everyone else to find the eggs. My kids? Maybe a few. But the weather always seemed to be rainy and muddy. So, mostly, no.
Easter Baskets
Were your Easter Baskets set out to be filled by the Easter Bunny and then hidden...
Or were they filled by the Easter Bunny first?
~Always, always, always, our baskets were set by the fireplace empty, and filled and hidden by the Big Bunny Himself! He must have a strict, official rule for that around here because he did the same for my kids.
Chocolate Bunnies.
Hollow? Or...
Solid?
~There is one response for me as a child, me as an adult, and all my kids as well. Solid. Game over.
Easter Movies?
Here Comes Peter Cottontail, or
~The Easter Bunny is Comin' to Town?
~ I remember The Easter Bunny is Comin' to Town vaguely. But for me, it's Peter all the way!
And finally. What is an Easter list without these?
~With sincere apologies to all who indulge, it's a no from me. No. Just, no.
Well, my friends, did I miss any of your favorite memories?
Have a cozy, blessed Wednesday as you prepare for Easter.
Billie Jo
Google for all the images of Easter memories.
It all looks so familiar. I did not like those Cadbury Eggs. I don't remember those movies. Yes, I found Peeps this year for James. They were marshmallow and Rice Krispies. Yes, a solid chocolate Easter Bunny is the best but hard to find. I don't remember setting out our baskets. Hope you have a wonderful Easter Sunday.
ReplyDeleteAnother fun list Billie Jo!
ReplyDeleteEaster Bonnets-Yes (and a new Easter dress)
Coloring Eggs-Every year
Cadbury Creme Eggs-A solid no
Easter Egg Hunts-Not as a child. We went to one Saturday and watched though.
Easter Baskets-Were out empty then filled and hidden
Chocolate Bunnies-Love both, solid is my favorite
I don't remember ever seeing an Easter movie
Peeps-Absolutely a hard no
I hope you and your family have a lovely Holy week!!
Oh my, it all brings back memories. I do like the caramel Cadbury Eggs. In fact, I had one today. I always woke up to a basket filled with treats and that has been the same for my kids. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. Those were definitely the good parts of my childhood.
ReplyDeleteSuch fun memories! I remember them all. Our Easter basket was filled when we got it on Easter morning. I used to like the Cadbury eggs, but now they are too much!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun post!
I remember inexpensive candies and affordable eggs...good times.
ReplyDeleteI love all of these. I definitely had a Cadbury Egg phase which I have just as definitely grown out of. I do like a peep. (Like one individual critter not one pack. Though we have used leftover for Easter S'mores before and they add a little flair to that experience too.) I love to sing the Easter Parade Judy Garland song!
ReplyDeleteFor those who don't like the Cadbury Eggs, that's fine because that leaves more for me!
ReplyDelete*Yes, I vividly remember Nel wearing an Easter hat when taking pictures one year.
ReplyDelete*Yes, it was a tradition to color eggs every year when the kids were little. And when I was growing up. ; )
*Cadbury Creme Eggs - haha these are my son's favorite. Me, not so much.
*Yes, every year the kids had an Easter egg hunt. That was the highlight of their day.
*I always filled their baskets, and on Easter they were set on the table, so when they woke up they were excited to see them!
*I always liked solid chocolate bunnies, but for some reason I like the hollow ones now. ; )
*Don't remember watching these Easter movies.
*Peeps, Yes! I don't really like the taste, but they are just fun for the kids to get them in their baskets. Peeps will forever put a smile on our faces at Eastertime, especially the Pink ones!
Fun Fun, Billie Jo. And I loved hearing your answers too.
Happy Easter, dear friend.
~Sheri
I do remember dyeing the eggs and the smell of vinegar! I am so old that there were no Cadbury eggs back then. In fact, no Cadbury candy of any kind. And I remember biting into a chocolate bunny and being disappointed to find it was hollow. Another rule, ALWAYS eat the ears first!
ReplyDeleteMy parents got me a chocolate bunny and some chocolate eggs when I was a kid. We went to church and then to visit my gramma (dads mom)and give her an Easter lily. My other grandma lived in the same town as us and went to church with us.
ReplyDeleteOh, this brought about a world of memories! Easter bonnets were always a needed item as a kid. I don't know that my girls ever wore one though. Cadbury eggs are a no, but I love the Peeps! Peter Cottontail for me as well. The Easter basket was filled by the bunny before we seen it, and it was always one of the small wicker ones. We never colored eggs like that. We literally colored our eggs with crayons and made our own pictures on them. I had never seen egg coloring used until I was an adult and my husband was talking about it. I had no idea!! I like our way better though. I don't color any these days,
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...this is memory lane for sure. I remember all of these things...Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThat Easter Bonnet took me right back to age six! My two sisters and I also had small purses on a chain, plus dress shoes that clip-clopped on the kitchen floor. I always felt so grown up when I dressed on Easter! I'm with you on Cadbury eggs, no thank you. But the chocolate bunnies, hollow every time! Have a blessed Easter Billie Jo!
ReplyDeleteOur baskets were never hidden. I didn't know people did that! I saw a reel where they cut off the top of the bunny ears, poured a cream liquor mix in it, then topped with whipped cream. Now it's all I can think about!
ReplyDeleteBillie Jo, I do remember coloring eggs for years, I used to eat the Cadbury eggs but now I like the Russell Stover chocolate that have different flavors. I think we had baskets to find eggs but that was so long ago. Thanks for the comment that you sent me today. I rarely getting comments anymore. Have a blessed week and Easter weekend!! **Becky
ReplyDeleteCadbury eggs is a no. Dyeing eggs was a tradition. Easter baskets appeared on the kitchen table on Easter morning, filled with practical and yummy goodies. And solid chocolate bunnies is the only way :) Oh, and no to the peeps :) Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteI was always a solid egg person. Our daughter gathered treats but ate few of them. She was the same about Hallowe’en.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you and your family, Billie Jo.
Peeps. Nobody fesses up to liking them (except me), but there they are, year after year. Can't be just me!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post, Billie Jo! I was probably about 4 or 5 and I had never stayed away from home or my parents overnight before. But that Easter eve we went to visit my Aunt Hazel who lived about 45 minutes from our house. When it was time for my parents to go home, everyone asked if I would stay and spend the night. By myself, I asked. My immediate answer was, NO! My cousins were begging by this point (I must have been the "baby of the family" at the time. Anyway, I finally said, "But if I stay, the Easter Bunny won't know where to bring my basket." I was assured that the Easter Bunny would still visit me even though I was at my aunt's house. So, I stayed. Both of those cousins as well as my aunt have now passed away and I'm so thankful for the memories associated with that Easter. I always think of them this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteI am not fond of Peeps. I to bite the bunny's head first. We had to look for our Easter baskets and they were hidden good (by Dad)! New dress, new shoes, gloves, a new hat, lacy anklets, and Grandpa always got his girls corsages to wear to church! Great memories!! xo
ReplyDeleteI think you hit most of my Easter memories, and then some, Billie Jo. Easter clothing in the 60's: White (though sometimes black) patent leather shoes, lacy anklets, a new dress, though one year I had a pretty blue suit. White gloves. And a hat. I would love to find a picture or two of me dressed up for Easter. At least, once my birthday fell on Easter and that was super special. :)
ReplyDeleteEaster morning, my mother would slice the fatty pieces off the ham, and fry them up...that smell, with the chocolate, oh dear mmm. We didn't have those Cadbury eggs, I think they look yucky, but the little chocolate candy coated Cadbury eggs are the absolute best. I like the Robin's eggs too, the malty flavor, especially the broken ones that get a little stale...and Peeps, yes, frozen please. Black jelly beans, cheap jelly beans, but Sweet Tarts jelly beans, mmm! Hollow rabbits, but not the kind they make now, the ones that actually had a snap to them, a more real and chocolate-y flavor. Reese's Eggs, the big ones, mmm-hmmm. Chocolate covered marshmallow bunnies in the little foil wrappers. No to Easter hats, dyeing eggs (did it as kids, but I thought it was way too messy with my own kids, just frosted cookies instead). I had that exact basket with the green and pink, growing up. I don't like to eat the sweets anymore, but I like it all. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't remember Easter ever being as big a deal here, when I was younger. We decorated boiled eggs (using onion skins, if I remember rightly) and definitely enjoyed eating chocolate eggs:) But I never saw the Easter Bunny or took part in any egg hunts. X
ReplyDeleteMy mother made sure we were dressed to the nines on Easter morning! Then church while we looked spiffy! Then home to our baskets. Never hidden. The girls always got bubbles and a Hula Hoop and some chocolate and jelly beans. The boys got Match Box cars and bubbles and the same candy. Coloring the eggs was a yes. Peeps were a no from four of us except one who had them frozen. Easter bonnets and patten leather shoes to go with the Easter dresses. (don't scuff your shoes!) Both Easter movies were a hit! But while we enjoyed the Easter bunny himself, my kids and my sisters kids always questioned us about E.B. "How can a bunny hop around the world , mama?" Good point!
