Mocha And Movies

This little lady had a big day yesterday. She had to have her teeth cleaned and some possibly removed. I have learned that little dogs, especially Yorkies, are prone to periodontal disease. I dropped her off bright and early. Our vet is excellent, and the young lady I left her with put me at ease. They called me later in the day and told me Mocha was waking up and had done very well. She also told me they had to remove 15 teeth!

I could barely wait until it was time to get her, and boy, was she happy to see me! Once her excitement wore off and we had our instructions and medication, we headed home.

After a happy reunion with Kirby, who didn't know what to do all day without her, Mocha settled in for the night. Right where she belongs.

This time of year does lend itself to cozy nights in front of the tree, doesn't it? It also reminds me of evenings long ago when I had a little Madison who loved Christmas as much as I do. I remember giving her a bath, dressing her in her fresh pajamas and robe, and sitting down with her by the tree to watch the classic Christmas specials. It was cold and dark outside but cozy and warm inside. Every evening starting around six o'clock or so, one channel played the classic Christmas movies like 'Twas The Night Before Christmas, Red Boots For Christmas, Jack Frost, Santa Clause Is Coming To Town, The Year Without A Santa Clause, and of course, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty The Snowman. Those nights with her are some of my most treasured memories. They must also be Madison's because she sent me this last week. It is a schedule of Christmas movies on AMC and looking closely, I see some of those very same memorable movies listed! And they begin early like they used to, so little ones can watch them before bed. There are others, of course, but so many classics and favorites.

You can save this to your photo stream and enlarge it, or visit AMC's website for the details. This may be what we need this year. We can snuggle in, revisit old Christmas traditions, and reconnect with the calm, peaceful things that bring joy this time of year. With all the technology available and the pressure to constantly go and do today, we need to make a conscious effort to do something that years ago was the norm. That is, coming home after a long day of work or school and turning off the outside, so we can gather together on the inside and enjoy the peace of Christmas. And maybe some cookies and cocoa too.

Have a cozy day, my friends,
and thank you for visiting!

  3. I love this time of year with all the old favorite Christmas movies. What's not on TV, I have on DVD...does anyone even own DVD's anymore?! My daughter just took her little miniature Dachshund in and had 15 teeth removed as well! Poor little Mocha, I hope she is doing better - I know she is getting plenty of love ;0) Hugs

  4. Aww poor Mocha. My pug goes through the same thing. When we first adopted him he had to have many teeth pulled and already had some teeth pulled before we got him and now we can tell he's having more problems. I'm so excited we are in the season of Christmas movies. My favorite!

  6. You might enjoy the books by Nancy Thames. Nancy was an author in Texas…I fell in love with Teddy on the books…I emailed her…thus a friendship began. She wrote several…the first one was set in Half Moon Bay, the first place I saw the Pacific…she wrote some on places I loved…I hinted…I edited as a volunteer her last several books…light cozy mysteries…I noticed she quoted me with my old name on the back of some…well, Nancy quit writing…she and her husband were so busy when he retired…then about a year ago, they built a home near Hilton Head, SC, to be closer to some of their four kids and families…this Spring, she emailed me to ask if I would edit one more, THe Wedding vase…historical and fiction but kind of nonfiction…we did…in !ay, I asked her to take a break…step back and revise…in July, she emailed me to thank me for her 75 th birthday card and to tell me she was recovering from a heart attack…in August, her husband called me…she died of a stroke. She did not have that huge 75 at the club I. July…well…this is a long story…I was not able to attend her belated 75 at the club at Hi,ton ahead in October, but I will help her husband get the book finished…by the way, come of her ashes rest I. That Wedding Vase…anyone wanting to know her…I call her Nancy…her family calls her Jill…Google Nancy Jill Thames for her obit…I loved those little books and fell in love with that Yorkie.

  10. Poor Mocha. I hope she's right as rain tomorrow. I love the memories you have. We were very much the same with our young children. I miss those days but hope the next week is calmer and we can begin to enjoy the cozy, calmness.

  14. Poor Mocha! Hope she's feeling better soon! So does she have to eat soft food now, or has she already been eating soft food? A funny little story about my cat Minion's teeth..... At his wellness check a couple years ago, when the vet was checking his mouth and teeth he laughed and said, "Oh, he's missing a couple of his front teeth right in the middle. He's a little hillbilly." LOL! (Those front middle teeth are so tiny in cats, we never even noticed they were gone!)

I love all the Christmas classics, have many of them on DVD. I tried to watch the new one I've seen advertised, Reindeer In Here, but couldn't stick with it. I'll take classic Rudolph any day.

  15. Hopefully Mocha will have better days soon. I miss watching Charlie Brown Christmas 🎄 show. At one point I thought we had a cd of it but not sure where it is. I'll be watching some Christmas shows soon.

  16. Bless her! I hope she's feeling much better now, after a good rest. I expect Boo will be feeling much the same next week. He's having something slightly different removed :)

  17. Poor Mocha! We have been through the same thing with our 2 small dogs. It's heartbreaking but you know that it is for the best. I guess big dogs have so much more room for their teeth and they stay much cleaner. Our dogs never notice though - they'll make any treat worth the effort! Take care! I really like your green background with the cabin and trees.

  18. Oh goodness - 15 teeth! But I bet she feels much better. We had a doggie who had bad teeth and once we had them removed, he was like a puppy again and so happy. Such sweet memories of Christmas with a little one. We did the same thing when my girls were small.
