Last night we celebrated Shark Week with some shark-themed food and fun! Shark Week is an actual week on The Discovery Channel featuring information about...you guessed it...sharks. The shows are documentaries and adventure programs that share information and entertainment all about different species of sharks. It actually began in 1988 and has continued to grow into the cultural phenomenon it is today. While I cannot say I have watched it from the beginning, I know I have looked forward to this week in July many, many times.
When my kids were little, and Steve was working very long hours, I started celebrating small events with them just for fun. In the winter, we would make a small cake and wear masks for Mardi Gras, and get Chinese food for Chinese New Year. In the summer, we would bake cupcakes and watch Shark Week. My kids are grown now, but they all still indulge me and my love for celebrating any and all events with food and games.
I found some fun printables on Etsy. And then I planned a fun menu.

That really does look like fun! I love the shark names!
ReplyDeleteI Love this! So much fun!! : )
ReplyDeleteI CANNOT!! This is so adorable! You are such a fun mama! I'm glad y'all can celebrate these little things together!
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative! I love the way you celebrate and the way your kids have kept it up.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best! It makes me wish we had the Discovery Channel so I could throw a similar event. I love the dip with shark fins the best of all!
ReplyDeleteHi Billie Jo! You are such a creative and fun mom! I love how you make even little "mundane" events reasons to celebrate! Good job. Hope you are enjoying Shark Week!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great time was in store!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are creative :)
ReplyDeleteSo weirdly sweet -- I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat reason to celebrate! I cast my vote for the dip with fins also.
ReplyDeleteBillie Jo, what a cute idea! I love to see people who celebrate even the smallest fun things. Life is too short to be so serious all the time. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and creative ideas for your Shark Week. The seaweed dip is too funny. And the deep dark chocolate cake looks fabulous! Your table is set so wonderfully. You even have a JAWS candle, how delightful. I saw the new Jurassic World yesterday, and it had the biggest ocean creature swimming in the great waters. It was such an entertaining movie!

This is so much fun! You are the BEST Mama. So creative and I love everything about this. I adore the way you celebrate each holiday and fun event wholeheartedly and with everything you have and your family joins right in with you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I'm late in commenting. I tried to get online yesterday as we were driving, but internet connection was too sporadic across Wyoming and Eastern Montona. Last night we staying in Helena, MT and spent several hours just chatting with and catching up with our son. Tonight is pizza night with him and our two oldest grandkids after they all get off of work. We're so excited!
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
I just love this so much!! I have always enjoyed watching your celebrations like this. Brings my heart such joy and nostalgia for the times I did this for my kiddos. Today since it's 5 months to Christmas Eve I have been listening to Christmas music and did some coloring in a Xmas book. Annie is gone out of town with a friend - but next week I plan to do a Christmas in July day with Matt & Annie. Matt thinks we're crazy but I still LOVE it! :) I even got them a couple of little gifts and think I may do Christmas breakfast for dinner. ❤️💚 Love all you share here always dear kindred Friend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for explaining what a "shark week" is. Boy, I was way off! *haha* Your decorations & food are so cute. It amazes me that so many people could be interested in sharks, as to have a whole week of tv dedicated to it. I had never heard of this before. I think my hermit tendencies are showing! Love, Andrea xoxo
