July

Each month has its own unique feel. January's feel is all about fresh starts, new beginnings, and hunkering down for winter. We are now on the other side of the Fourth of July, and the beginning of one of my favorite times of year is upon us. I have always loved the feel of this time of year. When I was a teacher, I started to think about my classroom theme for my little second graders this time of year. When my kids were younger, I would start thinking about school supplies and Halloween costumes as the fall magazines began to arrive in my mailbox. And now, as a homeschool mother of one high schooler, I am starting to organize stacks of Algebra and Chemistry books on my kitchen table.

That isn't all I am doing, though. I love this time of year, the time after the Fourth of July. It's still summer, with long days spent sipping iced coffee and nights spent outside, staring at the sky. All my favorites: swirling fall leaves, soft, cozy throws, pumpkin spice everything, and thoughts of spooky decor are beginning to appear online, and although I am not ready to fully immerse myself in them, I can start to look, and smile, and bookmark things I don't need and more than likely won't buy. The point is, they are there. I can enjoy the feeling of fall and all the coziness for a bit. I can imagine and plan, and then I can close my laptop, pour another iced coffee, and head outside for a few moments of warm sun. The pumpkins, colored leaves, apple-scented candles, and cozy, soft throws can wait. For just a little bit longer.

Happy Wednesday, my friends.
Enjoy your July day!

  1. Hi Billie Jo. Yes, it seems like after July 4, the summer is on the "downhill slide" at least for me as a teacher. This is my FINAL summer break. Next year, I will retire and my "summer break" will go on and on and on. Boy, how I am looking forward to that! I hope you are having a good week. See you again soon!

  2. I'm ready for fall...so ready. But until it decides to show up, I will continue to try enjoying this much of summer that's left. :)

  3. I know what you mean, and I've heard that some of the main shops have Fall items right now. School will start up for the teachers before ya know it. They don't have that long of a summer break like we did, so they have to prepare their lessons and decorate those classrooms. Even though it's summer, I can feel a nip in the air early mornings, and July is just a good month. Two of my children were born in July. And like you, I'm looking forward to Fall. ; ) A delightful post this morning, Billie Jo.

  4. I feel like Summer rushes by so quickly! I hang on to it for as long as I can and am really not ready for Fall, but I know lots of people love it. I did enjoy your words on it though - and every season has it's own joy!!

  5. I thought of you the last time I was shopping in Hobby Lobby.. They have plenty of pumpkins and all kinds of Fall decorations. This time of the year, it is so easy for me to dream of Fall simply because the temps are so HOT..... Enjoy your day Billie Jo..

  8. So true Billie Jo... I'm not yet thinking about my classroom... for me that feeling comes sometime mid August but I do start thinking about plans/goals/situations for our family come September and how things will 'be' for us in the new school year (changes).

I love summer for getting organized -- drawers, closets, calendar, my blog caught up, and Time Time Time with my little family all home all summer long. I love the slow days and the unfilled days and just doing things slowly.

In all of that summer goodness, I do look forward to some crisp cooler air on long walks...

    Have a happy Wednesday, Tara
