Monday Morning Coffee Talk

Good Monday morning, my friends. I am cozy on the couch with two pups and an empty coffee cup. My view is the same as this, except my Mocha is not lounging in the sun as she was on Saturday. Speaking of Mocha, she celebrated her eighth birthday yesterday, which apparently makes her a "senior" pup! She is five pounds of pure love and has been since the day we brought her home.

Although it seems like yesterday, this photo reminds me that, indeed, it is not. Flynn at five was the cutest thing ever!

And at 13? Still is! She is always happy to go with Steve wherever he has to go. They have the best time together, which makes me so happy. In other Happy News...

Madison's husband Nicolas received his Permanent Residence Card! This means he can live and work here in the United States for an extended period. He and Madison have worked hard for this, including numerous visits with attorneys,  participating in several interviews, and paying countless fees. We are so happy for and proud of Nicolas. We are also thankful that he continues to love and share his beautiful Danish culture and traditions with us too!

Finally, my mom! She recently qualified for nursing home care, and we decided that the best place for her is an hour or so away in our hometown. My sister Margie lives there, as well as so many of the people my mom knows from all different stages of her life. Her very best friend from school recently came and visited her! She is so very happy and well cared for. We miss her terribly but have wonderful phone visits and are kept up to date by Margie on all the activities she enjoys. I called her last week, and although she was happy to hear from me, she told me that she was in the middle of making blueberry muffins! Isn't she the most beautiful person ever?

Well, time for me to get going. Today Flynn, Madison, and I are going for lunch and an afternoon visit with Peyton at her cozy home. Then tonight, Flynn is hosting a family movie night here with everyone except Steve and Madison, who are uninterested in the movie. It is the original Star Wars. And can you believe I have never seen it?!?! I am curious to see how I like it, especially since I am postponing my weekly Bachelorette viewing to watch!

Have a great day, my friends.
I pray for all affected by the flash flooding, the intense heat wave, and those still burning wildfires.

Thanks for visiting!

BillieJo

  5. Congratulations to Nicolas!! During the early part of the lockdown, my husband and I watched the Star Wars series in chronological order. The story makes much more sense then LOL.

  7. Congratulations to Nicholas! That's not easy. Our son has had to do the same in London to stay with his wife there. I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies. I think I'm in a great minority! :-)
I'm glad your Mom likes her new place. My MIL is doing well hin her apartment too. It's been almost a year and we're so happy she's adjusting well and only 3-5 minutes from us.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. Flynn was and is the cutest! Happy Birthday to Mocha and congrats to Nicolas too.
Our niece married a young man from Romania and he went through that. He is now a citizen, and a great guy too!
    Your mom is indeed sweet!

  14. Enjoyed your post and all the photos. Happy Birthday to Mocha and Congrats to Nicolas, exciting stuff. Glad your mom is in a place that makes her happy even if it is a bit far away from you. Will be interested what you think about Star Wars. I did see The Empire Strikes Back in a theater long ago and far away (well, not far away but I don't think it exists any longer) without seeing Star Wars until much later in life. They are fun movies though I never got in to them as a super fan like some people do. Hope you have a wonderful week!

  15. Hi Billie Jo. Happy birthday to little Mocha! So glad that you mom is happy and well-cared for. She is beautiful in both body and soul. So glad to hear that Flynn has a great relationship with her dad. That is so important.
Congrats to your son-in-law on getting his permanent residence card. I have friends who have dealt with that process and it is a big, expensive and time-consuming deal. Charly and I saw the first Star Wars (the first one to come out) on our first date way back in June of 1977. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope your week is going well. See you again soon!

  16. I remember standing in line for over 2 hours waiting to see the first Star Wars movie back in 1977. I have seen all of them. I love the music from the first one and even have it on my cell phone. It reminds me of my son. My son buys and sells Star Wars toys as a side business. Mocha is so cute. You are blesse with that view. I would be out there all the time. Enjoy your week!

  17. I love that your mom was "busy and had to go" - what a wonderful feeling. Knowing that she is well cared for and happy!! I used to volunteer and a local assisted living. Baking (which was often muffins) was a resident favorite for sure!! Congratulations to your SIL....what a blessing!! Hope you are enjoying your Tuesday!

  18. Congratulations to Nicholas! That's awesome. And I love seeing pictures of your mom. She looks so happy. I just saw that there will be a Golden Bachelor in the fall and I have to say that I'm very interested in that. Although I was totally shocked when I saw that he was 71! He doesn't look a day over 60 if you ask me!

  20. Happy Birthday Mocha! Oh, Flynn was so darling when she was five.....and she still has such a sweet smile at 13. That's great news for Nicolas, and I hope he has many wonderful years in the states. This is a dear picture of your mom with the 4th of July wreath, and I hope she has special moments with the people around her in her new place. Have a lovely Summer, Billie Jo, and try to stay cool.

  21. Several things....first of all, Mocha is totally adorable! I love that she is so light---easy to carry around like a baby. I found out recently that my 14-year old dog is considered a "geriatric." My 7-year old is a "senior," but after 12, my vet calls them geriatrics! Congrats to Nikolas! Friends of my daughter and son-in-law are currently going through the same thing. The new wife is Canadian, and there are a lot of hoops to jump through before she can live and work in the States permanently. Your mom is beautiful, and I'm so glad you found a lovely, safe place for her to live. My husband's dad is currently fighting his kids on moving into a nursing home. He really cannot live independently, but he is refusing a nursing home. I love your new blog header! And finally, I have decided to return to blogging. I've been away for over a year now, and the time just felt right to return. With watching my little granddaughter 3 days a week, I won't have a lot of time, but my passion for simple, slow living has called me back to blog world. Stop by if you have a chance.
