Friday Thoughts

Morning, my friends! I am coming to you from my spot on the couch today, staring out at a gorgeous autumn day. The snow stayed just long enough to remind us what is to come. Today is bright and chilly, with the sun dancing off the leaves. Our weekend is relatively free, with the possibility of a few fall festivities, depending on the weather. Another thing I am taking into consideration lately is the resurgence of Covid in our area. This latest strain is highly contagious, and we have so many testing positive around here and getting very sick. While I know we cannot completely hide from it, I realize how serious it can be. So, there's that.

On a brighter note, Madison made pie. And it was delicious. Last night she brought a cranberry cherry pie with a crumble topping. I quietly thanked young mom Billie Jo for having kids in the kitchen with her all those years ago.

 Look at this beauty.

I don't write much about homeschooling anymore, but we are still at it and loving seventh grade. Flynn is the best student and is so interested in learning. She loves science, especially Earth and Space Science and World History. She excels at Math...thanks, Steve...and even secretly enjoys Grammar. I think. She is a good sport, too, allowing me to perpetually believe that she is still in elementary school. I just cannot give up the stickers.

Well, that's about it around here. I am off to listen to Taylor Swift's brand-new album. Later, I have to take Mocha to the vet for her yearly checkup. I am thinking of stopping at the Dunkin drive-thru for a little Pumpkin Spice Latte treat afterward. Dinner tonight is leftover goulash and Italian bread. And then, Flynn and I will probably watch a not-so-spooky movie before bed.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends. Thanks for visiting!!!

Billie Jo

  1. I enjoyed reading through the worksheets. I'm many MANY years out of school and have forgotten all that stuff about prepositions and whatnot. LOL Sometimes I want to buy myself a bunch of the workbooks you can find at Walmart, etc, and do them just to reacquaint myself with things we learned way back when. Hmm, maybe I'll put them on my Christmas list! lol

  2. It was a very chilly week here which had us all cozy in the evenings at home. This weekend is supposed to be in the 80's and then next week back to Fall temps. I just love this time of year. That pie looks amazing!!

  3. Crazy weather week here. Tuesday morning it was 18 degrees when I headed to school. Saturday it's supposed to be 85! That's a big swing. Still no precipitation here. Even on the coldest mornings, there was barely frost on the car windows. It's that dry.

I hate to tell you, but you need to call an exterminator. That creature by the fireplace is terrifying!
    LOL

    Happy October my friend!

  4. It is very hard to let that youngest one grow up. Mine will be 30 in November and I can't believe it!

  6. I am a terrible teacher and lack the patience required to home school, but I imagine it's a great gift, especially to a girl, to be free to focus on her her studies and what she's interested in without the distractions/pressures of school. I admire your ability to provide that structure and used to love those glimpses of your school room when all the kids were in it!

  7. Your fireplace looks fabulous - but - sorry - that spider gives me the heebie-jeebies!
Cherry pie is my favourite - it looks wonderful!

  8. Loving all things fall right along with you, but we are having our Indian Summer, I think. It was close to 70 today and will be in the 70's all weekend.

  9. Hi! Happy Friday. We are also seeing a surge in Covid. My mom tested positive yesterday and my dad tested positive today. I just dropped off chicken noodle soup and homemade chocolate chip cookies on the front porch. I'm praying they both have a quick recovery. Charlotte and I were around my mom on Monday and we both feel fine - we tested today just out of precaution and were negative - thank goodness. This is the first weekend we haven't had plans in some time and I'm looking forward to resting and relaxing and reading a new holiday book which just arrived in the mail today. Flynn's English looks a lot like what Charlotte is currently learning. Glad to hear homeschooling is going well. I think we are finally in a good groove with it and we are both enjoying it. Have a good weekend. Stay safe and healthy!

  10. Hi Billie Jo! Your handwriting is so neat. One can sure tell that you are a teacher! I still love stickers too and put them everywhere I can. Charly, Josh and I all got our fall Covid boosters and flu shots so I am hoping we can avoid a lot of sickness, but it seems like it's always something. I hope you and your family have a great weekend. (P.S. We will be over after dinner for a piece of that delicious-looking pie!) ;-)

  13. I'm so glad Flynn enjoys school and especially learning. I hope she always has a zest for learning! Well done to you Billie Jo!! We got our booster and flu shots today. Our area is seeing a lot of the flu going around. The local high school cancelled homecoming because of the surge. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend!

  16. Madison’s pie looks amazing and look at Flynn go!! That’s awesome! And I still LOVE stickers, too. I use them in my planner now so it can appear to be a legitimate excuse for me to still play with them. Haha! Hope Mocha got a great report. Have a great weekend!

  18. My youngest is 27th and I can still remember feeling a little sad to give up stickers when my boys got too old for them. I still have so many of them - imagining sharing them with grandchildren some day.

  19. Why kids both had Covid a couple of weeks ago so yes, it hasn't gone anywhere and still going strong contrary to what people would like to believe. Thankfully their symptoms weren't too severe.
It hard to comprehend our babies are babies anymore.

  20. Way to go, Flynn, on your outstanding school work! She is a bright student! Madison's cranberry cherry pie looks scrumptious. Would love a piece with my coffee right now. It's so nice that your daughters are always baking and cooking something delicious in their kitchens. And I love your charming mantel and fireplace. Looks so cozy and warm. It's been so cold here lately, and have had my heater on much of the day. So thankful for warmth. Oh, the virus is terrible - my in-laws just came down with it, and eating lots of soups to knock it out.

Have a happy week, Billie Jo.
