November

“November comes

And November goes,

With the last red berries

And the first white snows.

With night coming early,

And dawn coming late,

And ice in the bucket

And frost by the gate.

The fires burn

And the kettles sing,

And earth sinks to rest

Until next spring.”

― Clyde Watson

October slipped away last night, much like the faded leaves slip from the trees and float to the ground, their job complete for another year. We awoke to November, a month that begins in quiet and calm reflection and ends with excitement and anticipation of all things Christmas. November is a bridge of sorts, carrying us from the ordinary days of autumn to the festive ending of another year. Life passes quickly, especially if we forget to savor each and every day. So today, I choose to take a deep breath, look around, and settle into this most wonderful and cozy time of year.

Happy November, my friends!

  6. It's a beautiful post, Billie Jo! I like November, too, and can tolerate the cold right up until Christmas Day. Then, I want the snow to disappear and robins show up on the front lawn. lol xo Diana

  7. Ah! Such a great poem and truly savoring each and every day it a must. We have so much color surrounding us right now I want to take it all in before snow falls. Have a wonderful cozy weekend, I'm thinking the leaves aren't going to last much longer, we are having a wind advisory tomorrow. I'll be getting my Billie Jo on and hunkering down and cozying up!!
    Hugs to you my friend!

  9. Great food and great people with awesome styling and interior. Also great event space Chicago for cheap happy hour drinks. However, the downstairs beer selection is about as standard as it can be while upstairs can be a bit more creative.
