Well, That's Done!

Hello there! My house is currently basking in post-holiday chaos, and I am okay with it. The tree is still up because I love the lights at night; some decorations are currently residing on the dining room table, waiting to be packed away until next year, but the pile of empty boxes in the garage is making it impossible to get to the Christmas tubs, so there's that. These sunny days allow me to see the previously hidden layers of dust on things and tiny pieces of wrapping paper litter the floor under the couch. And, honestly, I am okay with it.

I have relaxed over the years. It could be my realization that my body has limits or the desire to hang onto the cozy of Christmas a bit longer. My midlife mantra has become, "It will get done when it gets done." And until that time, I can live with it. Now, that being said, I did tackle a project yesterday. This was out of necessity. I have woken up with a stuffy nose for the past few weeks? Months? Anyway, it has been an extended period since I washed my mattress pad and pillow covers. And since I swept under my bed. And since I wiped down the bedframe. You get the idea. Yesterday, I did it. Not all at once like my thirty-year-old self did. I did it gradually throughout the day. And I got it done. I got nothing else done, but I got it done. I packed away the Christmas quilt and returned things to normal. I dusted, vacuumed, wiped, and fluffed. And today, I woke up sniffle free!!!

Today, I may do the guest room. Or I may take a day to recover.

Have a cozy Wednesday, my friends!

Thanks for visiting!

Billie Jo

  1. I need to do some dusting when I return home. It's still hard to do some things.

  2. OHHH - you make me think I need to do a deep clean in my bedroom now too - I've been waking up stuffy too for awhile.
I'm the same - give me the glow of tree lights on dark winter nights as long as possible!

  3. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts...they really do help me feel less stress. I used to wash down walls, pull down all the curtains and wash them, really go-go-go. Now I still do some, but not nearly as often - and yes, when the windows are open and the sun is streaming in, it certainly shows the dust bunnies here! The bedroom looks wonderful...oh my, love it.

I wanted to share this quote - I think it's perfect for our mindset, just what I need for sure...

"One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day.

Don't clean it up too quickly." - Andy Rooney

Have a lovely day - the kids and I are taking a silly little road trip to a place called The Cheese Barn, no cleaning for me today...just trying to enjoy every minute before my son goes back to college - sniff, sniff. Sending hugs, Mary

  4. Glad to hear you woke up not feeling stuffy today. This reminds me that I also need to do a deep clean in our bedroom. It's amazing how quickly dust collects on everything! Hope you are having a cozy day.

  5. This post reminded me of a lady that I like to watch on you-tube and remember when I used to be like her. She deep cleans her entire house every week. Yes. Every. Week. Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that if you enjoy cleaning but honestly? It's just her and her husband, the house looks no different when she finishes then when she began. Maybe that's the point. She never lets it get dirty! :-)
I used to clean, clean, clean but in my old age, (ahem), I've realized other things are much more important. I still like a neat and clean house, but I'm not obsessive about it anymore.
Christmas decorations are put away but I do miss the glow of the tree at night.
Have a lovely day my friend.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  6. I, too, have my tree up and I like to look at the lights and there are Christmas decorations in different rooms of the house still. The older I get, I feel that I don't have to put it away all at once. We probably could do it in one day when we were younger but we learn to take our time, enjoy the days a little more. If I do one "house project" a day (clean a part of a closet, kitchen cabinet, under my bed) I feel good because I've accomplished something. I've also learned it's o.k. to take a "rest" day without any projects.
    Peaceful days,
    Linda

  7. Glad you're feeling better! Over the years, I hated that -almost depressed-feeling after Christmas. So now I have lights everywhere all year long lol. I even got myself some battery operated candles that are on a timer, so they just light up at night and turn off after a few hours. I have white lights above the kitchen cabinets, across the mantel, we have a couple of trees (not Christmas...but almost...like a decorative slim pine tree) that have white lights on them. One has both white and colored lights on it, so if I'm in the mood for a little Christmas...even in April lol...or I'm just missing it, I can just plug in the colored ones instead.

Another thing is looking through my Christmas decor and see what I have that can be used for Winter decor. A snowman isn't necessarily Christmas...it's winter. Stuff like that. Anyways, I'll stop rambling lol

  8. I have a friend who has adopted the phrase "good enough" this past year and your post reminds me of the same. I love that attitude :) Thanks for the reminder. And your bedroom looks so cozy!

  10. I used to be a perfectionist but the years have made me realize there really is no perfection. And yes, I can't seem to get as much done now as I used to either. You've got the right attitude. It will get done when it gets done. Your bed looks so pretty and cozy. I love the pillows.

  11. You've given my encouragement! Doing your best at just one or two things a day is perfect, and is such a great accomplishment. Hugs

  12. I am the same way! I spread out a job and am just happy that I got it done! And it never fails, when I get one thing done, there's always something else and the older I get, the less I fret about it!

  13. How wonderful that you tackled the bedding chores. That always seems to be the last thing to get done. I'm glad you woke up feeling better. I love that red heart on your bed. It adds a special something to your bed. And your snow side bars and Winter houses on your Header are delightful. You are off to a good start to the new year, Billie Jo. : )
