There Was Turkey

Good Friday morning, my friends! I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day! Our day was cozy, quiet, and filled with family, food, and fun. Our turkey dinner was a team effort. To this day, I don't know how my mother did it all those years. Thanksgiving morning, there was a semi-frozen turkey in the kitchen sink, and a few hours later, she served an entire Thanksgiving feast. Fortunately, I have several volunteers who help make the magic happen. I did set the table all by myself, though.

There were hiccups, of course. The pop-up timer had an off day, so the turkey needed extra time in the oven. This, of course, meant the side dishes needed to come out and wait a bit. But in the end, we sat down to a delicious meal and a wonderful evening. There was football, pumpkin pie, trivia games, and lots of laughter. Finally, the dishwasher hummed, the counters gleamed,  and the tree lights glistened. The Christmas season is here!

Mocha and I will be easing into it. How about you?

Happy Weekend, my friends.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving that you had my friend. We also had those blessed plates for our pie slices as well! We are hopefully putting our tree up tonight after Bill gets home from work. Seems life is crazy busy so we are trying to slow down and enjoy it. Have a great weekend my friend!

  3. Sounds like a great Thanksgiving. The pumpkin pie looks delicious and I love the place setting cards, what a nice touch. Your timer hiccup reminded me of Thanksgiving with my parents, *every* single year, the turkey timer would pop up super early like that. Hope you have a wonderful first weekend of the Christmas season!

  5. Sounds like your day was much like mine. Your plate certainly resembled mine. I'm glad you were able to be with your family and enjoy help in the kitchen. I remember the days of doing it all myself and starting a couple days ahead. By the time I sat at the table, I was exhausted! Hope you have a relaxing weekend. This afternoon, I'll start collecting the autumn decorations on the dining table and perhaps begin boxing them up. I'll make some switches and soon, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...."! Hugs to you! Wish we were neighbors, I'd have you over for a cup of Christmas tea and cookies.
    Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage,
    Laura

  6. It sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Your table looks so pretty and festive. I know what you mean about all the cooking and preparation that goes into making a Thanksgiving meal. I made dinner for the three of us at home yesterday and it was a lot, to say the least. The meal was wonderful, but I was quite exhausted by the end of the day. My grandmother used to do the whole meal on her own for her children and grandchildren years ago and I have no idea how she did it. Hopefully next year we will all get to gather at my parent's house like usual where my sister-in-law and I each bring just a dish or two and my mom makes the turkey, a side, and bread - so much easier and more enjoyable for everyone. I'm having a rather lazy day today, but considering going out to a local tree stand in a bit to pick up a real wreath for our front door. I hope you and Mocha are having a cozy and relaxing day!

  7. Looks like it was wonderful! And delicious. 😋 We had a lovely time of food and family - and even though some were missing due to illness right now, it felt perfect. I will be working on taking down Fall this weekend and slowly transform the house to the Christmas season over the next several days. I actually just did a 5 senses post about that. ;) I hope you have very blessed weekend ahead xo

  8. Can you believe that we are already counting down the days until Christmas?! Your Thanksgiving dinner looked delicious! I don't know how our mothers did it either, but it always seemed like it was easy for them, and it was always delicious! Enjoy your week-end!.

  9. We had a turkey issue too, and had to wait a little, but it seems that happens often! It all tasted good. Your meal looks yummy!

  12. I enjoyed seeing the photos and hearing of your Thanksgiving day. It was very similar to ours. I haven't made the switch yet to Christmas, but that will happen soon. Meanwhile, we're enjoying the time we have with our out-of-town kids and in-town ones too. :-)
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  15. Your Thanksgiving table looks lovely. So do you and Madison! You are very fortunate to have so many helpers bring it all together! I'm easing, very slowly, into decorating for Christmas as well. We have the artificial tree up with its lights, but no ornaments yet. Maybe tomorrow as it is supposed to rain. Leaves were the priority again today!

  17. A lovely day. Sending my warmest wishes to you and your family at this time.
I will also be easing myself in gently this year. I've written my card list and I will be making my cranberry sauce later today. Xx

  18. Lovely photos of your Thanksgiving celebration! Holidays are definitely lots of work. My Mom did all the cooking by herself, too. I usually do a lot of the prep work a day or two ahead of time. Clint did the turkey this year but I did all the rest!

  19. I've wondered how my mom did it all those years ago too. I don't remember all what we had in the meal back then but we never had extra money so I'm thinking we didn't have all the traditional sides. I know there was always a turkey and pie though.

Your pictures are lovely, and I especially like your little pilgrims and the turkey candle holder.

Our Thanksgiving was nice, just small, and pretty mellow. Christmas spirit hasn't hit me yet though.
