Monday Morning Coffee Talk

Hello there! Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I hope restful and fun. Our weekend was a combination of those with a side of super good food thrown in for good measure. Friday evening, we literally had no plans. Flynn and I had a busy week, so Friday, we spent the afternoon with Rick, Michonne, Daryl, and the rest of The Walking Dead. I had no dinner plans, so lucky for me, Madison and Nicolas invited us over for dinner on the deck again! Madison prepared the MOST AMAZING pasta with tomatoes and basil. Nicolas grilled zucchini and grated fresh parmesan too. We ate outside on their deck and then went inside when it got chilly ( I see you there autumn! ) and played our new favorite game. Have you heard of KNOW IT OR BLOW IT ? It is a trivia game for teams. So fun. Steve and I won, in case you were wondering. Even though Steve said the wrong name of the son in The Jetsons. Leroy????!!! We enjoyed Madison's Peach Upside-Down Cake too!

On Saturday, we had an awesome family friend over for boating, tubing, dinner, and a fire. Alan went to school with Madison, and we have known him forever. He is a super young man we don't see enough, so I am thankful he took the time out of his busy schedule to visit. Everyone was able to make it except for Kyrstin, who was working. We enjoyed burgers, pasta salad, chips, and fresh fruit, plus some delicious corn that Alan picked himself from their own field. I had a packet of something that you throw into the fire and it made beautiful colors, so we enjoyed that too.

And finally, today is a special day in the Catholic faith, and my very favorite feast day in the church year. It is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. Years ago, a priest told us that on this feast day, we can present very special intentions to Mary and ask her to intercede for us. I have every year and have received many blessings in return. Here is a favorite prayer I pray on this special day.

Well, I am off. It is time for me to become friends with some seventh grade teacher's manuals. Seventh grade! Not sure about dinner tonight, but I am sure it is Bachelorette Monday! Have a good one, my friends!

  4. What a great weekend! We tried to have a fire Saturday, but it ended up raining for a few and put the fire out. Oh well, it will be fire weather every weekend soon.

  5. I'm so happy to hear you had a nice weekend with food and family and friends. Those are the best. Every dish looks so delicious. I have never thought to try peach upside down cake. I will have to put that on the list.
This week it is below normal temps so I also see Fall inching a bit closer. I can't wait!!
Have a great week Billie Jo!!

  7. Your weekend sounds just lovely and perfect and yes, we are seeing fall peeking around the corner here, too. Yesterday and today have both been gray and dreary with temperatures in the low 70's for highs. Nightime lows have been in the 50's a couple of times. The air is just beginning to smell like fall. Yay! I'm not Catholic, but I always know when the Feast of the Assumption is because it's my birthday. lol

  8. Hello dear Friend! Your weekend sounded absolutely perfect. Wrapping up summer beautifully. I need to find that game. Well, Leroy is close to Elroy. Lol I wouldn't remember his name without re-singing the theme song. 😂 Yes, yay for this day and I pray a lot to Mary for intercession for my Momma. 🙏 I think your kiddos need to open a restaurant ...you sure raised some amazing cooks and bakers.
Blessings on your week ahead. xoxo

  16. Mary, the mother of Jesus was blessed, highly favored, and honored. Out of all the young women in the world at that time, God chose her to not only conceive and give birth to His only begotten Son but to raise Him as well. I can't imagine.
I Timothy 2:5 says, "There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." Mary, as special as she was, was human and mortal. She was born into sin like the rest of us and in need of a Savior. That Savior was Jesus and it is Jesus who lives to make intercession for the saints, not Mary.
    Hebrews 7:25, John 17

  17. I'm glad you had fun with family and friends for the weekend. I worked on Saturday and Sunday we ate at Denny's after church. Came home and wrote a letter with a Quilt of Valor photo in the letter for a blog friend that lives in Scotland. I thought about shopping at Safeway for food as well but I decided to do it Monday morning before work. Jesus and the holy spirit intercedes with us in prayers. Have a blessed week. I appreciate your comments on my blog. :-)

  18. Hi Billie Jo! Thanks for stopping at my blog. I enjoyed my visit here. Your meal with friends looks so fresh and delicious! Good for you for home schooling.
I checked out your previous post too. Your photos of the lake are so pretty and I love the deer.
I've only made peach pie with 2 crust. Your crumble topping looks very good.

  19. What a beautiful prayer. Oh, how I love Mary. What a special day this is. Madison's meal looks amazing. And I've never heard of peach upside-down cake, what a great idea. I like those pretty blue plates she served the meals on. That fire looks so cool. I'll have to tell the girls about the packet that you throw in the fire that makes colors. Oh my, seventh grade teaching - I hope that goes well for you this year. I could never get the hang of fractions. Your post was filled with so many wonderful things, Billie Jo.
