A Friday In May

Good Friday morning! I hope this morning finds you happy, healthy, and ready to face the day! Or, if not, feel free to shower, put on fresh jammies and snuggle under a throw blanket with some coffee and favorite old tv shows all day. Self-care days, mental health days,  whatever you call them, are ok. Really, they are. What do we do with our phones and laptops when they slow down and get low on battery? We charge them. We let them be. Eventually, they are back and ready to go. Should we be any less thoughtful of ourselves? My mom has a saying, " Listen to your body." If my body tells me I need a break, you bet I listen!

As you can see from the above picture, we have returned to the beach for a bit. We actually like to spend time here before the season officially begins. Fewer people, less noise, less sun, less everything. And we have a couple of birthdays to celebrate in the next few days. More on that in a later post. I have plenty of books to read, my planner to update, and Flynn's final lessons of sixth grade to work on with her, so that is how I will spend my time. I will swim in the pool. I will head down to the ocean to sit and relax in the early evenings. And I will call my mom every day to hear her beautiful voice call me Billie Jo. Because she knows me. Still.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friends. Many of you have graduations and celebrations this time of year, so enjoy! May seems to pass in a blur of end-of-year field trips, programs, plays, and concerts. Then the graduations and celebrations. I remember that well. June will arrive soon, and along with her, quieter mornings, slower days, and longer evenings. There will be ice cream after dinner, time on the porch, and lightning bugs to catch. Until then, enjoy every moment!

Thanks for visiting! I am always glad you do!

Billie Jo

  3. Lightning bugs...my absolute favorite part of summer; so magical. Good advice - hoping to make it through graduation without a bunch of teary photos, oh my... I'll take your tips to heart...an early morning with some quiet reflection. Enjoy your time, it looks lovely! Hugs, Mary

  4. I had just gotten up from a 'recharging' session under the covers when I pulled up your blog post. Fought that rest for awhile and then just gave up and did it. Feel so much better

  7. Look at you! Enjoying life as it comes as usual! I'm really looking forward to next weekend. I will be DONE with substitute teaching. I planned once or twice a week for a bit of spending money. four days a week since mid-February has totally worn this woman out! School's out the 27th. Homeschooling for over 25 years was a great help in preparing me for this part-time income maker.

I always love to read about what's going on in your life. I'm sorry I've not been by much lately. I'm hardly getting to my own blog right now. And there's still a garden that needs to be planted! Too much rain here to get that done yet. So, there are rooms to be painted. I may start that next weekend if we don't run away for a day or two to celebrate the end of school.
Be blessed my friend! You are truly a blessing to me!

  9. Self-care is so important. I definitely have no problem saying no if I feel I will over extend myself. It's very important that we listen to out bodies and good sleep is so important to my overall health and well being, not to mention mood. I'm so happy you are at the beach! I hope you are having a wonderful time!

  10. Yesterday was a self-care day when we woke to 6" of snow! It was painful, especially after a week of lovely, spring weather. But, that's Colorado. I read through your last few posts to catch up with you! I've been on a blogging break for a couple of weeks. I love seeing all of your beautiful pictures, especially of your lake. It soothes my soul. P.S. I, too, enjoyed my latest AARP mag. Liam N is easy on the eyes, for sure;)
