Just Like That

Every new mom will tell you, somewhere amid all the joy and happiness and fresh from the bath Baby Magic newborn snuggles, she is told not to blink. She is told that the years pass quickly. And that before she knows it, her new little baby will be all grown up. And every new mom hears but cannot possibly understand how very true all those words are. See this little guy here? That is my Rhett. And although this is often how I think of him, he is almost twenty years old, and indeed, all grown up! If I am honest, however, as much as I miss this little guy, I love the amazing young man he has become.

Rhett has worked with Steve in the family car dealership for as long as I can remember. He started as a detailer, washing cars during the summer and after school. Once he graduated, he began working in the parts department. He then moved to the Business Development Center, where he made calls, answered emails, scheduled appointments, and actually managed the department. Just a few weeks ago, Rhett moved into the next step of his automotive career, automobile sales! He is now licensed and certified to sell Hyundai, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram products! He is enjoying his new career, and here he is with his very first new car sale!

I could not be more proud of my son. He is succeeding in a career he loves by working hard and learning on the job, especially from his father! Rhett continues the family business as a fourth-generation salesman by becoming a car salesman, dating back to 1925 when his great grandfather sold Ford cars. In another interesting sidenote, Rhett is doing the same exact thing Steve was when we met all those years ago!

Rhett and his lovely, sweet girlfriend Kyrstin recently celebrated two years of dating, and we could not love her more!

Well, there you are. A proud mother's update on her one and only son. Yes, I miss those days when we sat in the rocking chair in his room and read Big Farm Tractor before his nap. And yes, I miss picking him up from preschool and going through the Wendy's drive-through and waiting at the longest red light ever, as he would say. But I love the time I spend now with this amazing young man. I love his kind heart and his love of home and family. And I love the cheesy fries and Frosty-ccino he brings me from Wendy's too!

Happy Monday, my friends!

Billie Jo

  9. That is really something - the history your family has with selling automobiles. I know how much I value a trusted salesperson. And to love one's work is a real gift. He is blessed. And your son and his girlfriend make a lovely couple. :)

  10. Oh I needed to read this...thanks for sharing. My son will be graduating in a month...where does the time go? You're so right, others warn us it will fly, but there's no way to stop it is there...or slow it down. I'm struggling with the sadness of it...I know it's how things are supposed to be, but still, it makes me teary. You must be so happy and proud...you've done a great job Mom!

  11. What a sweet post. They do grow up so fast. Congratulations, Rhett! Valerie is getting her senior ring tomorrow and I can't believe it. I look at her grown up face and can still see a glimpse of the little giggling girl she used to be.

  12. Hi Billie Jo. Congrats to Rhett for moving up in the business! Sounds like he is on his way to a wonderful, successful life with a nice career and beautiful woman at his side. Good job, mama. You raised your son well. :-) Have a good week!

  13. Oh that pic in his little Cars shirt! My goodness it goes by fast. He's grown into a hardworking and responsible young man, it's bittersweet how we help them to stand on their own two feet, thus accomplishing what we need to, yet...then they don't need us so much anymore. You've done a good job, and congratulations to him!

  14. Yaaaay for Rhett! So happy for him that he moved up in his job. It's so special that he is working the same business as his Dad and even all the back to his great grandfather. How wonderful that he sold his first car. Such a cute picture of him and Kyrstin, and a sweet one when he was a little boy. Dodge trucks are sturdy, and seem to go a long way. Oh, our sons light up our lives. It is really something when our little boys turn into good men. And somehow they teach us a thing or two along the way. So happy for your son, Billie Jo.

  16. Hello my Lovely! Playing a bit of catch up now that I'm back from my travels. Congrats to Rhett! That is awesome. As someone who has followed you for years...it's so fun to see your kiddos becoming such wonderful young men and women. And I love this as someone who is now dating a "car guy". He works in finance for a big car dealership and has been in that biz for 15 years or so - starting as a salesman himself. He is looking at a few changes in his future - potentially owning his own dealership (as a partner) or at something a bit more outside the box as his own business - to go along with moving up closer to me. Love just another connection we share dear Friend.
    Bravo to Rhett! 👏 🎉

  17. I understand how you feel, it does go by in the blink of an eye. Being a mother is such a great gift to be able to help your children grow and bloom into the people they become as adults. God bless you my dear friend. ~Juli

  18. Congrats to Rhett!! Too bad I don't live closer or I definitely would have gone to him for my most recent car purchase! He and his girlfriend are adorable. I'm like you and miss the days when they were little, but it's so fun to be with them as young adults, isn't it!
