A Touch Of Fall

It is no secret. I adore fall. I always have. The calendar year begins in January, but for me, it is the lovely month of September that feels like a new beginning. Perhaps it is because as a student, then a teacher, and now as a homeschooling mother, I feel September means a fresh start. A fresh, clean schoolroom welcomes my three students back . The weather here begins to change. A crisp autumn breeze means cozier clothes come out. The long hot days of summer give way to shorter, cozier days with earlier evenings spent inside with my people. And cooler weather calls for cozy, comfort food to replace the lighter grilled meals of summer.

I love to decorate our home for fall. I always try to hold out until after Labor Day. And sometimes I do. Not this year. On a recent rainy afternoon, the girls and I carried up the tubs marked "Autumn", and transformed our country home into a cozier place to welcome fall.

Happy Fall, my friends!!!!

  5. It looks absolutely lovely, SO inviting and with just that 'cosy' Autumn vibe that you mentioned :) Billie Jo, I was a teache too, many moons ago, and I agree the fresh, new year seems to start in September. I get excited to smell that Autumn 'nip' in the air! But we don't really have it yet, here and I am happy to be in the last days of summer still. Its all to come!
Enjoy your beautiful decorated home, I know you will.

  6. Looks wonderful my Friend! I love your home. I have already decorated for fall also - I should say started because I am constantly changing things, just this morning I moved items on our piano then I ended up moving the piano which lead to moving our record player, then couch you get it I'm sure think of the book if you give a mouse a cookie- well that's me when it comes to fall lol
Billie Jo where do you get your fabric swags- I would love to eventually make my own but I absolutely love yours for fall!

  7. Oh my goodness! This is one of my favorite posts that I look forward to allllllll year! I went really really slow and took it all in wishing I was there of course. Here's what I adored:

the first peek into the hearth room with lights on the garland. Lights on the garland... is that new this year? Oh I love them!

the photo of Flynn (the way she has her shoulders) next to the shiny ceramic pumpkin

the garland (swoon) on the mantle because it's fabric and the contrasting garland hanging. LOVE

photo number 7 down is my absolute favorite! The glow in the kitchen at the country table with your new hutch and the "new" light above... dreamy, and so amazing (with the bench and the quilt and the photos of your babies above it) Oh Billie Jo! Your family is so blessed to eat there every day.

the 'falls past' photos all over... I'm going to do that this year! adore!

the drawer/wooden box that's on the game table near your farm door and school room, oh I love it sooooooo! and the runner with the ribbon going through it!

no one does fall like you... no one!!!

Now, come over and help me with mine, okay?

Truly, you. Fall is truly you! And it shine through! Thanks for sharing!

And best of luck and many blessings as you start a new year teaching!

  20. Hi there,

Your home looks so warm and wonderful! Autumn is the BEST season for sure.

September as often felt like my new, fresh beginning, as well. I think that it had a lot to do with starting a new year of home school. Now that I no longer have children to school, I did not even think of that new beginning this year. Summer weather is still here in California; it really does not feel like fall yet. Last year it did not cool down until November. I think this year may be better - maybe it will cool down when fall officially starts.

    Enjoy your cozy evenings,
    ♥Hope
