What Time?

What time of day is your favorite? As I age, my days become more relaxed and unscheduled. I notice time more, and while it still passes much too quickly, I am determined to appreciate and savor the heck out of it all! This morning, when I took the pups outside, I realized that early mornings are definitely my favorite in the summer.

I love waking early, knowing that the whole day lies ahead. I love waking up with nature and watching it all come alive. On summer mornings, I am slower and more deliberate, lingering outside until the pups insist we go in for their morning treat. I make my coffee, take my pills, and pour fresh water for the dogs. I do all this with light shining through the windows, highlighting the dirt and dust on them, but who cares about that, really? In what universe do my dirty windows matter one single bit? (This new attitude brought to you by Middle Age. Thank you very much!) Then I sit and sip my coffee while I say my morning prayers and watch for the birds to visit. Summer mornings at my stage of life? 10/10. Highly recommend.

What about the fact that I am a self-diagnosed autumn soul? What about the crisp, windy fall days and the snowy winter ones that follow? Well, on those beautiful days, evenings are my favorite. But that is a post for another day. For now, I will sip my coffee and watch my birds. How about you?

Have a lovely Wednesday!

  1. Yes, I love mornings too! I am an early riser, even on days when I don't have to be. Nice post. See you again soon!

  2. I do like summer, but fall is my favorite season I think because it offers relief from the late summer heat and oppressive humidity.
My favorite time of day in the summertime is twilight. There is something magical about the temperature dropping s tad mixed with the lightning bugs flashes

  5. I love mornings; especially spring and summer mornings when it's nice enough to sit outside with my breakfast and a good book and listen to the birds sing.

  6. Definitely a morning person over here though I also enjoy a fading summer afternoon/evening as well. Your photo with the clematis and flag is beautiful. And since I've not been around much, I have to take a minute and say I really like the new look of your blog as well.

  7. I'm torn between 2 times in summer. I love mornings and to sit out with coffee on the deck and listen to birdsong. To water my flowers and work in the garden a little. But I also love late day...almost sunset. After Matt is done with his work day and we've had dinner. To go for a walk together because it's cooled off a bit. To sit on the deck and share our day and look at the bay. Watch the sun slowly set and talk about what the next day is bringing. Basically the deck becomes our favorite "living" space all summer long and I love that. :)

  8. Since I don't sleep well these days, I tend to sleep until 7-8 in the mornings. I used to get up by. 5:00 every morning for work. so I refuse to feel guilty for sleeping later. Often, I can't sleep until 2:30 or 3:00 am.
I do love early mornings and evenings in the summertime though. I really like it when it's cool enough to have the balcony door open and hear the birds singing.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  9. I enjoy sleeping till 7:30 or so every morning. It's one thing I looked forward to in retirement - to not have to get up early and be out of the house shortly after 7!
Quiet summer mornings and evenings are wonderful.

  10. Wow! Your photo combining the sun, Clematis, and flag is stunning!!! Fall is my favorite, too. But at our age, we must look for the gems and beauty of each and every day!! You are so right!!

  11. Hate waking early, but I can understand why you love it. I really love anytime of day as long as I have nothing to do. That rarely happens.

  12. Oddly enough, I like getting up early. All those years getting up in the night with sixteen babies, never getting enough sleep, I imagined that time far in the future, I would just sleep and sleep and sleep...but now that I'm here in the future, I don't like wasting the time. I wake up, think about coffee, and can't wait to start the day. I love the early morning quiet, wandering around to check the flowers and the garden, bare feet of course. Evenings are lovely too, with that late sunset...I do love summer. Right now it's afternoon, and dark and rainy, that's perfect! :)

  13. I love all times of day for different reasons. The peace and quiet of an early morning, with the promise of a beautiful day ahead. The busyness of my working day, surrounded by friendly colleagues, happy noise and chatter. Gentle summer evenings sat in the garden with my mug of tea. Xx
