Thanksgiving is here! And for the record, this will not be me—I wish it were. However, I will be in my cozy clothes with my hair pulled back, and that is okay.
Our table will not be this; I wish it were. Actually, we will serve buffet-style from aluminum pans we can put in the fridge for later. And that is okay, too.
I am happy to say that at my age, I realize this day isn't about the turkey being dry or the gravy having lumps. It isn't about football games and who sits where. It is about being thankful and mindful of and for all the blessings in our lives. That and pumpkin pie and coffee after all is said and done.
I am also thankful for this young lady. Our firstborn, Madison Marie, turned twenty-eight yesterday, and somehow, all those years disappeared, and I was in that hospital room on a dark and snowy night holding the baby I had dreamed of all my life. She is everything I wished for, and more importantly, she is everything she wants to be: caring, loving, confident, respectful, fun, responsible, and lovely. She loves her Nicolas and their pup Draper, her family, her job, cups of tea, watching Ina Garten, and buttered noodles. And we love her.
Happy Thanksgiving, my friends. Have a cozy, fun, relaxing day.
Thank you for visiting!
Billie Jo
Also, I post this every year. But if you want a super delicious pot of soup on your stovetop this weekend, save that turkey carcass! Wrap it up and put it in the refrigerator, and then, after a couple of days, make this turkey soup!
Ingredients:
- Turkey bones
- One stick of celery, chopped
- One onion, chopped
- One large can and two small(15oz.) cans of chicken broth
- One teaspoon salt
- One teaspoon of poultry seasoning
- One-eighth teaspoon pepper
- One large can of water
- One large bag of Kluski noodles
Directions:
- On Thanksgiving, wrap turkey bones and any fat in foil and place in the refrigerator.
- Put bones and fat in a large pot when ready to make soup.
- Add celery, onion, chicken broth, salt, poultry seasoning, pepper, and water.
- Cook at boiling, covered, for one hour.
- Meanwhile, in a separate pot, boil the noodles. Then drain and set aside.
- Drain bones, fat, and veggies until only broth remains.
- Add cooked noodles, stir, and enjoy!!!!
* The broth comes in boxes, so I add what looks good!
Happy Birthday to your beautiful Madison!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Thanksgiving with those you love around you. :)

Happy Thanksgiving to you, my friend, and a very happy birthday to Madison! I'll have my turkey soup cooking on Friday;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 28 years of motherhood. There will be one less at my table this year but I’m still focusing on gratitude as well. Wishing you a wonderful cozy day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Madison! She is beautiful, and looks much younger! You have the right spirit of Thanksgiving and I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely movie star gorgeous. She seems, from what you write, to be as beautiful inside. Prayers Brenda
ReplyDeleteAwww, Happy Birthday! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 28 years of being a mama. She is such a beautiful girl. Thanksgiving is so fun and exciting, I love being with family. I will be wearing my dress and heels though! Just kidding. :). Have a wonderful holiday with your family.
ReplyDeleteCan we just skip the turkey and get to that birthday cake?!!!! It looks great! Happy Birthday to Madison Marie (what a pretty name)! You are so right in your summation of Thanksgiving. I'm applying that to Christmas as well. The holidays have changed for me since Empty Nest became a reality some 22 years ago. I've had trouble being at peace with some of those necessary but healthy life changes. But it's much better now. Your post here confirms that. Have a wonderful holiday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Madison and Happy Thanksgiving
ReplyDeleteThis past Sinday we heard the best saying about Thanksgiving Day I have ever heard. "The important thing about Thanksgiving is not what is on the table, but who is around it". Happy Thanksgiving to you and your tribe!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, friend! I hope you have a lovely day with all your people!! Soak it all in...and enjoy that pie and coffee once the kitchen is all cleaned!!:)
ReplyDeleteBelated best wishes to your oldest and Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteYep, I've got turkey noodle soup on the menu for the coming week! Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteI love the nostalgia of Norman Rockwell's imagine but things just don't fit into that mold sometimes. I'm the comfy clothes type too! And my table is filled with family instead of decorations. Although those table scapes with linen napkins and pretty dishes and candles are lovely. Our Thanksgiving dinner was buffet as well.
Happy Birthday to Madison. Such a lovely lady.
Have a lovely weekend.
I hope Madison had a great birthday! What a beautiful lady she is.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds perfect to me. Belated Birthday wishes to Madison. Xx
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Madison! The birthday cake is fabulous! And who doesn't love Pink! Such dear photos of her on her special day. : )
