Well, hello there, fall! Welcome back. You have been missed! I look forward to spending time with you and promise to appreciate every cool breeze and colorful leaf you offer. People sometimes ask me what it is about this time of year I love so much. I tell them I am an autumn soul. I am happiest surrounded by cooler air, vibrant colors, shorter days, and longer nights. Fall is earlier evenings together after dinner, with apple cake and cozy movies. Fall is soups and bread, pumpkin bars, and pumpkin bread. Our Spiced Pumpkin Yankee Candle returns and fills our house with the scent my children know as simply as Home. I love autumn for all these things. I love the soft throw blankets, the mums on the porch, and the trees' red, gold, purple, and yellow leaves, fluttering down in the wind, swirling onto the ground, and finally resting there to begin again. I love my grown children wanting to watch Halloweentown while making place and bake cookies with pumpkins on them. I tell people that autumn is my time. It is dark, cozy, and calm. Thank you, autumn, for all these things and more. Thank you for always returning and asking nothing of me except a short walk on a late September day down a quiet road with colorful leaves surrounding me. Welcome back. I've missed you.

I love fall but it is still a bit away from the Deep South . We have had a couple of days with a hint of fall in the early morning air, but generally that is just a trick before we are blasted by heat and humidity again .
ReplyDeleteI love your description of fall. It was VERY hot in London, record-breaking in fact. Coming home to cooler temperatures has been wonderful. We have even had the windows opened since we got home and that's the first time in months.
ReplyDeleteI love both fall and spring with it's expectation that the world will slow down it's madness.
Blessings,
Betsy
Yes, Fall and Winter are the best for all the reasons you listed. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteGirl! We are kindred spirits!
ReplyDeleteWell, whenever I get depressed that winter is coming, I am coming back here and reading this!! It also reminds me of more things to be thankful for!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful description and love letter to your favorite season! Hope you have a wonderful week welcoming in the fall!
ReplyDeleteA very nice letter to fall highlighting some of the best things the season has to offer. I am so ready for it.
ReplyDeleteI hope this autumn is everything you are wishing for!
ReplyDeleteYou said it all perfectly dear Friend!! Exactly what I love about Autumn too. We just had creamy potato wild rice soup last night as a matter of fact. With a side of zucchini bread I just baked the other day. Some cukes and veggies from the garden on the side and it was a perfect meal. I have my Yankee autumn wreath candle out and all ready to go. And the majority of the decorations are up over here. A few more things to do and then it's just time to watch the color continue to change outside, go for long walks in the chilly breeze. Come in for some hot tea and big fluffy blanket. Yep...a perfect return of our favorite. ๐ ๐งก
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are in for some lovely weeks, maybe months, ahead!! Savor every scent and special moment!
ReplyDeleteI miss fall in the north and drives into the mountains. However this weather in Florida year round is freeing. Enjoy your time. Brenda
ReplyDeleteLovely!!!
ReplyDeleteFall is a great time of year for morning walks!!
Beautiful photo and such beautiful words too! I think I would really like Fall if it wasn't so short and followed by that dreadful white stuff. But your words on Fall make me look forward to it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cozy post :) There's something about the Fall that brings everyone back to life, in a holiday-ish way.
ReplyDeleteI love love fall but I don't like the winter that follows. My daughter is begging me to bring down the fall decorations but I say no not until the 23rd when the calendar tells me it's officially autumn. But I really, really can't wait as much as she can't.
ReplyDeleteWe're starting on fall around here too! It was 48 the other morning and then in the 70s. Perfect weather!! Enjoy your lovely fall!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy fall too, Billie Jo. So glad that it is here and the weather is cooling down. I hope you have a great weekend! See you again soon.
ReplyDeleteSo many things you have written about Fall that I love too, dear friend. And you wrote it so eloquently. Our special season is about to begin. That is, indeed, something to be grateful for. I bought a wee white pumpkin this morning, and will write the name Charlotte on it. : )
ReplyDeleteHave a peaceful weekend, and that view is so pretty. Your leaves are really starting to change.

Yes fall is a good season with cooler evening and night. I enjoy seeing some trees turning colors and rain will return again. I found a new pumpkin ๐ chocolate bread recipe via Facebook yesterday evening. I printed it out. I got some pumpkin items as Trader Joe's on Wednesday. Tis the season. ๐
