January Days

Just like that, we are enjoying the quiet calm of these January days. It is funny, I think. In December I love the bright colors and festive clutter that fills our little home. And in January, I crave the barren look of a simple, clean house. (Although truth be told, much of my house is in a state of tremendous disrepair.! Christmas is scattered on the pool table, boxes and tubs are partly filled, and a certain little ten year old is getting ready to move into her very own bedroom, which is currently being painted a very pretty shade of light blue. Use your imagination, my friends. It's that bad.)

We started back to school this week, and honestly, we were ready. One of the many things I love about homeschooling is the ability to make adjustments as we go. I spent last Sunday afternoon tweaking and adjusting and actually trashing some of the lessons I had planned at the beginning of the year. I regrouped and planned what I think is a solid and exciting curriculum for the remainder of the year.

My bedroom is one of my very favorite places. I find comfort and serenity there, not to mention the occasional afternoon nap. I added a little corner desk this Christmas, and am finding it very cozy and useful. The gray blanket at the bottom of the bed is a weighted blanket, and I love it! It is a ten-pound one and is the perfect weight to make me feel cozy and comforted. I was concerned it would make me feel too warm, but it doesn't at all.

I received a couple beautiful New Year cards from some very special friends. I love them so much I am displaying them and smile every time I walk by. Ending with the ~ On the way to Mass ~ selfie with me and my girl. Because. My girl.

Thank you for visiting, my friends. I hope you have a lovely weekend with your people. No major plans here. How about you?

  2. I love the simplicity of January after all the baubles and lights and decorations for Christmas has been put away. Although there are still a few stray ornaments here and there and a bin of Christmas lights on our front porch that have not been put away! Your bedroom looks so cozy. Have a great weekend!

  8. Your home is so beautiful and clean. How did you describe it, "Simple and clean." I love that. My daughter and I were talking a few weeks ago how she's trying to simplify her house and get rid of things she hasn't used in 6 months. I'm ready for that too!

  9. I love that you decorate with books. Your home is so pretty. I understand the mess. Believe it or not, we just got our tree down today. I have some Christmas odds and ends that still need to get to totes.

I had an unexpected life change this week. My husband and I made the decision to graduate Amy a semester early so that she can take classes full time at the junior college. Suddenly, I am a retired homeschool mom after years of wondering where a homeschool mom goes to retire. Now I have to redefine Laura.

    Blessings friend,

  10. Billie, I love the photo of you and your beautiful young daughter. Hold on to that sweet child. I miss my girls being young and being my daily companions. They are grown and wonderful moms and starting to become grandmothers too. Gee I am older than dirt. LOL. Like you, I love the holiday decor, but when the festivities are over, I also like that clean calm look. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie.

  11. There's something about the stillness of January, and it looks so cozy around your house, Billie Jo. That grey blanket looks so nice and warm. I always like to see the books in your homeschool corner, as I am a lover of children's books. Your front door is charming with the pretty wreaths. And a lovely picture of you with your daughter. I hope the new year has been good to you so far. : )
