Fun On A Friday

Hello, my friends! Happy Friday! I was just about to tell you that we have another cozy, rainy day here in Pennsylvania, but as soon as I started typing, the sun appeared, and the room filled with brightness. Let me check the forecast. Nevermind. Today, there is a 90% chance of rain and a high of 47 degrees. I used to get frustrated with the weather. However, age has gifted me with acceptance, and I realize it is what it is. Besides, I love a good rainy day.

I also realized I have a distinct lack of photos to share with you today, but that is alright because I wanted to write about some of the things we are watching and anticipating. First, let me fill you in on a little secret we enjoy.

There was a day when the news was on in the background. Not anymore. I have always loved game shows, especially the old ones, as you know. I recently began watching Game Show Network during the day. Would you believe my family has become fans as well? We love it. No stress. No doomsday news. Just fun. We have a couple of new favorites, too.

Split Second
and
Switch

You can find the schedule online or on TV. You can also leave it playing in the background and watch whatever happens to be on!

We are also watching and enjoying Manhunt on Apple TV. This series highlights the life of John Wilkes Booth following President Abraham Lincoln's assassination. It is very well made, and although I have read different reviews saying it is not historically accurate, it lends itself to research and comparing truth with fiction.

This next one is a new documentary just released on Netflix. I have not watched it yet, but I am familiar with the story, which is very sad. This will be a good one for you if you are a fan of True Crime.

I am looking forward to this next show! Presumed Innocent is an upcoming television series on Apple TV. It premiered in June and is based on the Harrison Ford movie from the 1990s based on a book from the 1980s. I loved that movie and am anxious to see Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role because...Jake Gyllenhaal.

Now, for movies! Last summer was all about Barbie and Oppenheimer. This year, we are anxiously anticipating another film in one of our favorite movie franchises.

Now. Hear me out. At first glance, you may think, "What the heck?" But honestly, these are really good movies. They are action-packed sci-fi with an actual storyline. Grab the popcorn and settle in if you have some rainy days and haven't seen the first three movies yet. This movie is coming out in May and takes place after the first three:

Rise of Planet of the Apes
Dawn of Planet of the Apes
War of Planet of the Apes

Those movies are for the kids too. This next one is not. I cannot wait for this movie! It is the sequel to  Joker, the outstanding film from 2019 that is not about a villain in a superhero universe as much as it is about the anguish of mental health issues seen through the eyes of one disturbed man. Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his role as the Joker, and I am so ready to see him again in that role, along with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. I will be waiting until October, but that is ok with me.

Well, there you have it. All the things you did not need to know about my viewing habits! I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, and perhaps I should be doing something more constructive with my free time, but this is me being real. Now, I am off to watch Match Game '77 while I eat my cereal. Have a wonderful weekend, my friends. Thanks for visiting!

  1. I have not seen any of these...however, since I spent most of my life working, raising kids, I missed so many opportunities for some really good ones...I have Hulu...and I watch free You Tube on tv, and a couple of other free channels...I do not have cable...I discovered Frazier...funny...(the only sitcom I watched as an adult was REBA, my favorite...) I have also realized there was a series, The Mentalist...and Midsomer Murders...these are so intriguing...and other mystery series...I had never seen Mary Tyler Moore...there are so many on the free channels and You Tube and Hulu. My favorite show is Bluebloods...I watch it on Saturday morning on my Ipad...books take up much of my time...but I do like shows also...I do not like reality shows at all...exc. was American Idol back in the day...enjoy your time having fun with the characters...with your family. I like your blog so much. You are amazing...thank you.

  2. Yes, I love all the old game shows and some of the newer ones. And this part of PA is experiencing that rainy weather too. We definitely don't have to worry about a drought this year, that's for sure.

  3. You’re right about rainy days - we can’t change them, and really, I kind of like the cozy, sleepy, curl up feel they bring! Here I’m waiting on The Brokenwood Mysteries to return to Acorn - filmed in New Zealand - mysteries with some humor but not gruesome. A couple more weeks for season 10 to appear😊 enjoy your weekend- catch up soon!

  4. Oh, I loved the Match Game growing up! Game shows were my favorite -- $10,000 Pyramid, Newlywed Game, Hollywood Squares, Press Your Luck, and of course the Price is Right!

  5. We don't watch many game shows anymore. Not really sure why but years ago I watched the ones Carol did and really enjoyed them. Now we watch 99.9% YouTube videos. We don't have cable. I love YouTube as you can really choose when and what you watch. We have watched and re-watched Midsumer Murders a few times. We have lots of Reality makers that we watch regarding camping, knitting, crochet and home organization. Lots of full-time RV'rs are on our list as it was our retirement dream to full-time RV for at least 5 years and visit all of the National Parks. Unfortunately, Mom's dementia put a damper on that dream but that's okay. We are learning to accept it as our plans aren't always God's plans. We still get out for an occasional 2-3 day trip and once a year trip back to Spokane to visit our friends and church back there.
    Enjoy your cozy day inside.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  6. I am all FOR reading all about your T.V. shows! We watch a lot of T.V. Unfortunately, we do not subscribe to Apple or Netflix. But I am a huge true crime fan! I watch News Nation's Ashleigh Banfield show every weekday night at 10:00. She follows all mysterious murders. And I am so looking forward to the new Joker movie! I can't wait!! It looks so good!!

  7. I'm with you on wanting to avoid the news these days. It was interesting to read about the variety of things you and your family have been enjoying. There is certainly no shortage of things to watch. We loved Ted Lasso on Apple tv, but have let the subscription lapse since it ended. I do like true crime and we do have Netflix so I will check out that suggestion. My husband is a huge sci fi fan. It sends me running from the room when he watches it. Ha ha. Not sure why, but I have never been a fan.

  8. Our Friday is turning out to be the exact opposite of yours. We have been socked in with cooler wet/rainy weather and today is glorious with a high of 68. Perfect!
Good thing too, because I have been putting off going to the grocery store!

  10. The documentary on John Wilkes Booth sounds very interesting. I enjoy many documentaries and I love period dramas. This sounds like a nice mix of the two. The sun is finally shining here after a week of a LOT of rain. I'm toying with going out and weeding. I really should do that. Really. I should.

  11. Hi Billie Jo! I love old game shows! Like you, I get really tired of the news, I only watch the local news, that's enough for me. Your movie selections look amazing. I remember the very first, Planet of the Apes, but I haven't watched the new movies. I'm looking forward to checking them out. Our weather is the same, cold one day, warm the next. Today, it's in the high 60's, but tomorrow it will be in the 40's. I don't worry about what I can't change. Have a wonderful week-end! Hugs, Barb

  12. I'm not a tv watcher at all.
Good attitude about the weather because there is nothing you can do about it. :)

  13. I'm not much of a tv watcher...or a movie watcher. And we can still be friends!! Isn't that great:) It is nice that you and your family enjoy watching a lot of the same things!! Enjoy those game shows (there was a time when we did not miss The Price is Right....way back in the day but I remember them well!)

  14. How cool that your family is enjoying game shows with you. That's wonderful.

  15. I think watching less doom and gloom news is always a good thing. The Game Show channel sounds fun. I hope that you and yours have a good weekend! See you again soon.

  16. Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes sounds like a good one. I actually just saw one of the APE movies, and they are always entertaining. The life of Abraham Lincoln sounds like a good one also. I've always loved movies about history and the different eras. They are a past time, but a very important part of how our ancestors lived. I love to see the home decor and clothes they wore back then too.

    Enjoy your movies, Billie Jo!

  18. I am not an avid watcher of TV or films, but I imagine it would be lovely family activity on a miserable rainy day. X

  19. I love the old game shows too! MatchGame, Pyramid, Price is Right, Supermarket Sweep! We love WipeOut too, even though it's not as old.
I remember watching Planet Apes as a kid, along with The Blob, King Kong, and so many others.

Now I watch Blue Bloods, British Mysteries, American Idol, Tracker, and currently watching The Baxters (because I read all the books back in the day).

Oh, and did you hear about the Golden Bachelor couple getting divorced after 3 months of marriage?

  20. I grew up watching Super Market Sweep with my brother, and I still love to watch the old reruns with my husband. :)

That Manhunt show sounds fascinating! :D We have been watching All Creatures Great & Small.
