Monday Morning Coffee Talk

Good Monday morning! Welcome to a new week and a brand new month! I hope your weekend was everything your hoped it would be and more. Before I recap our weekend, I must wish a Happy Birthday to Christopher, my Peyton's awesome husband, who recently turned twenty-five. Christopher is everything a mom could hope for in a son-in-law, or SIL, as I call him. He is an answer to her prayers and makes my girl so very happy. He is also the BEST handyman, fixer-of-things, and water filter replacer around. Peyton made homemade cinnamon rolls to celebrate Christopher with us. And they were delicious.

Now, the weekend. It was jam-packed with family, food, and fun. Friday, Madison and Nicolas invited us to a cozy dinner on their beautiful deck. Madison made an amazing pasta dish and served it with zucchini. Then we visited and played a super fun game, in which the men beat seemed to get much easier questions than we did. We finished the evening with a fantastic peach blueberry crumb pie made by Madison. It was a lovely evening all around.

Saturday, we went to mass, and then Steve and I were treated to dinner by one of our dear friends, Linda. Flynn went home from mass with Peyton and Chris for an evening full of ping-pong, homemade pizza, movies, and ice cream, followed by a sleepover! Steve and I had the best night at home with his sister Sally and her husband, Greg! We went for a long boat ride and visited. Then we sat around the fire outside by the lake, and Madison, Nicolas, Rhett, and Kyrstin joined us. We had the best time, talking, laughing, and eating roasted treats. Sally is one of the best human beings I will ever know. She has the biggest heart and is someone I feel so comfortable around. Her husband is also an awesome guy, and I am not just saying that because he reads here. : )

Sunday was a wonderful summer day! I took a nap. It was great. The kids played volleyball on the beach, and then Steve took them tubing. Peyton and Chris stopped in for a visit too! After tubing, we enjoyed dinner on the deck. Madison helped me prepare some chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and fresh fruit. Summer at its finest.

Before I wrap this up, I want to share a few of the Netflix documentaries I have watched and would recommend. I had a few requests after my last post, so here we go!

Netflix Documentaries I Recommend

Meltdown Three Mile Island - A 1979 plant malfunction causes a radiation leak

D. B. Cooper: Where Are You?! - A 1971 skyjacker parachutes from a plane after demanding cash

American Murder - The Family Next Door - The story of The Watts family murders

Challenger: The Final Flight - Perspective about the 1986 Space Shuttle Disaster

Shania Twain - Not Just A Girl - A look at the amazing singer and her path to stardom. (I haven't yet watched it, but I can't wait!)

Do you have any to add? I am always looking for good documentaries to watch! Well, thanks for sticking around to the end. This was a long one! Have a cozy Monday, my friends. And Happy August!

Billie Jo

  1. I love reading about your fun with family! It's quiet here most of the time and I just got a new red Jeep sticker to add to a journal I'm working on! Happy Monday!

  3. Happy birthday to Christopher! 25! What a fun season of life. For me, it was the year I got married. It really is a blessing to have our adult kids living nearby and being able to spend time with them, isn't it? Several of my friends don't live anywhere near their adult kids, and even one that does, is estranged from the daughter. All that to say, I count among my blessings---as I know you do---that our adult kids are close by and that they enjoy hanging out with us. Back in 1986, I was living in the Orlando area, and my FIL worked for the Space Center. We always watched the shuttle launches. I will never forget watching Challenger's launch and explosion. It was horrifying to see the cloud of smoke in the air.
    Blessings on your week!

  5. What a fantastic weekend you had! Full of family, food, and fun! Indeed, summer at it's finest. Dan and I watched "The Girl in the Picture" this weekend and really enjoyed it. I love true crime type documentaries. This one was good but left us with a lot of questions that sadly there will never be answers to but we thoroughly enjoyed it!

  6. Sounds perfect - I just love that everyone gets together! I soooo hope that as our kids grow and chase dreams that they still live fairly close by so impromptu get togethers are possible. I'll have to check the latest on Netflix...right now I'm working my way through mysteries on Acorn. Enjoy the week!

  7. Sounds like a perfect summer weekend. And happy birthday to Christopher! I sure hate it when the guys get all the easy questions during games - seems to happen a lot here too. 😉 I am so excited about the Shania Documentary too!! I watched the musical Come From Away this past weekend (based on the diverted 9/11 flights to Newfoundland) - and it was SO GOOD! It's on Apple Tv. I hope you have a very blessed week ahead. xo

  14. What a wonderful post filled with good times with family and friends. Thank you so much for the list of Netflix recommendations. I was one who asked, and I'm just now realizing that in little over a month, I'll be recovering from another surgery and may find watching some of these helpful to pass the time for a day or so after.

  17. Happy Birthday to Christopher! This is a cute picture of him and Peyton. Her homemade cinnamon rolls sound Yummy, and I wish I had one (or two) to go with my coffee this morning. ; ) So nice of Madison to have you all over for a lovely dinner. The blue plates she served the pasta on are pretty. I love that August quote too! Oh, how I remember those times at the fair with the sticky cotton candy.

Have a good rest of the week, Billie Jo.
