Ordinary Days And Thoughts

Ordinary days are my favorite. Sure, I love holidays and all the excitement that they bring. But I have always been happiest during those ordinary days in between. I find comfort in the security of consistency. The uneventful days full of mundane tasks like making coffee, unloading the dishwasher, making beds, folding laundry, taking the pups out, preparing dinner, wiping the countertops, dimming the lights, lighting a candle, and settling in give me joy.

I have always been this way. As a teenager, I loved school, my friends, and my activities. But I looked forward to Friday afternoons when I could come home to my house, knowing that I had all weekend to spend there with my family. I loved Friday nights with my two best friends, Jenn and Brent, watching movies. I loved my mom making spaghetti, or rigatoni, or chicken cacciatore on Sunday afternoons while my dad watched the Steeler games with a fire going in the tv room.

That is me. Some people have called me weird and strange, even in my own extended family, but I am ok with that. I own who I am and am proud to be a homebody. Some people ski, golf, or bike. Some like to attend sporting events and tailgate or attend parties and picnics. I applaud them for doing what they enjoy. Me, though? I am happy being ordinary. Home. Reading, homeschooling, napping, and loving my family.

Be you. My friends. Just be you.

  2. I'm home sick today, so I'm having some fun catching up with you! :) I have LOVED all the fall foliage pictures you've shared- just beautiful!!! Our leaves are just now starting to change color, so the next few weeks should be pretty! I'm a fellow homebody who could play cards and board games and watch movies every night and be perfectly content. :)

  3. Home is my favorite place to be, Billie Jo, so I understand your words completely. It has gotten too fast for me out there, and when you get
older, it's even harder to keep up, and sometimes you don't even want
to, as all the little things you mentioned brings joy itself. I loved
    hearing about your teenage years.

Have a beautiful week enjoying all the ordinary things. : )

  5. I am SO with you, my friend. I wrote about this same thing a couple weeks ago. The majority of the days of our lives are spent in the realm of ordinary, so it makes sense to cultivate a love for the ordinary. I am a home body too. I would rather be at home than just about anywhere.

    Blessings,
    Patti

  8. I am a homebody at heart. I do like going places, but as I'm leaving the house, I'm already excited, knowing how happy I'll be to come back home, lol!

  9. I am the opposite and wish I could be more like you! I have to force myself to stay home(although am not much of a party person either) but it really does make life so much easier and calmer for whole my family when I do.

  10. I am not a party person either. I love hiking and an occasional road trip, but mostly, I am a homebody as well. Lovely post.

  11. Weird and strange because you love home, hearth and family? Ummm....no. I like to go out as much as the next person, but with the state of the world, I always look forward to coming home. We've been staying in lately more than we're used to, but I'm okay with that. Lots of crazy out there. Love the peanuts sheets.

  12. And I adore who you are dear Friend. And would never think it's weird. You are the sweetest soul and best wife and Momma around. I'm so grateful how you share and I get peeks into your perfect ordinary life. 😉
PS: of course you have the Great Pumpkin sheets! Lol
