Being Kind...To Myself

Today I was thinking about the fact that I can't sew a button. On anything. Before I got too down on myself, I thought of something I can do. I can decorate my house and make it cozy as can be. I can't parallel park to save my life. I can, however, teach little children to read. I can't crochet a pretty blanket, but I can make the best pot of homemade turkey soup around. I can't sing. At all. I can twirl a baton like a Miss America contestant.

The older I get, the less time I want to waste wallowing in negativity. I want to embrace what I can do and what I love doing. I want to be kind to myself. And celebrate the talents of those who can sew, park, crochet, and sing.

Happy Monday, my friends!

  3. Look how much we have in common!!! I can't sew but I can teach children to read just like you... better yet -- We can both remember what we can do and forget about all the rest. I know that's why I love it here -- you blog space so much. You celebrate and encourage all of us who read here to be the best at what we can be. And just so you know -- I've learned so much from you.

  4. Yes, all of this. I often need to remind myself that if someone spoke to my children the way that I sometimes think about myself I would go mama bear on them. I am also a child of God and full of my own goodness. What a lovely reminder from you today.

  5. Great reminder! If we ever meet, I'll do all the singing, and you can do all the cooking, k? :) And after I parallel park, you can show me some baton twirling. We all have our "can and can't" do lists, don't we! But yes, let's concentrate on what we CAN do and find joy in the everyday!

  7. If we lived closer I'd let you decorate my house (which I'm hopeless at) and I could sew your buttons and crochet :) xx Susan
