Crockpot Mongolian Chicken

For the record, I am pro Crockpot. I think the crockpot gets a bad rap, especially with the latest Instant pot craze going around. Used correctly, a crockpot can create delicious meals with minimal effort. This is one of those meals. The original recipe can be found here.

Crockpot Mongolian Chicken

Ingredients:
  1. 5 chicken thighs, bone in and skin on
  2. 1/4 cup soy sauce
  3. 1/2 cup brown sugar
  4. 1/2 tsp. ground ginger or 2 tsp. minced ginger
  5. 1/2 tsp. garlic powder or 2 tbsp. minced garlic
  6. sesame seeds and green onions for garnish
Directions:
  1. Grease slow cooker, and set chicken in skin side up.
  2. Mix soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic powder together.
  3. Pour over chicken.
  4. Cook on low 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
  5. Garnish with sesame seeds and onions if desired.
We served it with rice and a tossed salad. But broccoli would be good too!

Enjoy!

  1. I'm team Pro Crockpot too! How can you go wrong when it does all the work for you! There is something about going about your day knowing your dinner is slowly bubbling away in the crockpot. I just love that feeling. This chicken looks delicious! I'm adding it to my "recipes to try" list! Thank you, friend!!! :)

  4. Yum! I love my crockpot, I just got a new one for Christmas. Would you believe that the "big one" (not my little one from my grad school years) we had was my parent's old crockpot? I got a fancy one with a timer and a carrying case. I will definitely try this recipe!! Thanks!

  6. That sounds delicious, thank you for sharing. I'm a huge crockpot believer. I use mine at least once a week, often two or three times. It's perfect for busy days when we have to be out for kids' activities in the afternoons. Then we just come home and eat, with minimal work involved. Today I have bean soup in mine. I'll make a salad when we get home from ballet and we'll be ready to go!

  8. I love using my crockpot. I think one of the reason people don't like it is because they take a recipe that says to cook for 6 hours and then think it'll be okay to let it cook while they are gone for 9 hours. Nope, and that's why they end up with a mushy mess.

Congrats on your move. I'm looking forward to seeing you make your house a home.

  20. This is a very timely post. I made pulled pork in my slow cooker a few times recently, but the other night I just wanted to do it fast, so I tried it in the instant pot. Same rub recipe, but so much less flavor! I was disappointed. Granted, I was making it for my lunches and I just wanted to get it down, but the slow cooker method definitely imparts a ton more flavor and I am definitely going back to that method for pulled pork. Your recipe looks great and something I would definitely try!

  25. Im a huge fan of my crock pot I think I'm on my third one, I gave my first one away, I broke the inside to my second and chipped my current one. I know I need a bigger one but am very picky so until I find one I love I will stick with what I've got. You know I've thought about those insta pots only because one of my favorite you tubers raves about it (she's in her apron) but I'm not feeling it lol something freaks me out about cooking frozen chicken I can't do it. Lol
