Things I Do That Make No Sense

Why do I...

~ Have only a tiny, decorative wastebasket in the bathroom, which is constantly overflowing and requires daily emptying?

~ Continue to use the same potholders I bought in 1998 despite moving three times and being ripped and stained?

~ Refuse to throw away the numerous plastic baggies full of photo negatives because someday we might need them?

~ Pin recipes on Pinterest I know I will never make and will probably never even read again?

~ Take my purse into the movie theatre when I know I will never set it on the ground, and I will have to hold it on my lap?

~ Start listening to podcasts before bed, knowing I will fall asleep before they are over, meaning I have to restart them the next day?

~ Set my alarm every night, even though I wake up every morning before it goes off?

Who knows, right?
How about you, my friends?

Have a great Wednesday!

  1. I guess we all have things like that.
I can totally relate to pinning (or in my case saving on instagram or bookmarking in my browser) stuff that I will never look at again.
Also, I always have this thing for a clean slate, so every first of the month, I feel like I need to finally get my life together and then I'm bummed if I fail, because I have to wait for another special date. Luckily there's always new moons, or even Mondays ;-)

  2. Ha! I have to restart many a podcast myself! But I do give you permission for new pot holders. There are great ones out there and you'll love them!

  3. My potholders are from the 90's and I have to double up on them to keep from getting burned. Ha. They were made by a friend's grandmother and are my favorites as long as I remember to double them up. I think everyone else uses different ones.

  4. Hi Billie Jo~ Just last week I deleted my Pinterest account because I thought it was a waste of time. Yesterday, I re-activated it! Why?! I never use it!! I just made myself some new hot pads for the same reason...mine were so old they had holes in them and I always burned myself. I always beat my alarm...I guess we are creatures of habit. happy Wednesday! Hugs, Barb

  5. Haha! I love this my sister Friend. I relate all too well with every one of these...well except the movie theater one. I do set my purse on the floor and then use sanitizing wipes on it when I get back in the car to go home. 😂 I love how you share these incredibly relatable and fun posts. xoxo

  6. I bought new matchy matchy potholders and decided I didn't like them. So pulled out the old ones, but never got rid of the new. They are all in the basket I keep them in.
    What is that about?

  7. I do the same with Pinterest and FB recipes…clogging up the inter web🤣. “I might need these someday!”…Tiny wastebasket is dainty…nuff said. I keep old greeting cards - too pretty to toss. Might turn them into greeting cards someday?
    Eccentricities, I guess :)

  8. Oh my gosh, my thing is saving FB recipes... why?? And Instagram! WHY!!

  9. I agree about Pinterest . . . never look at anything I've saved. Need to delete my account. I do like my Ove Gloves; otherwise, I burn myself too often. We all have eccentricities and love that you share yours so we feel like kindred souls!

  10. I have finally stopped setting my alarm. I ALWAYS wake up before it goes off and when i needed to make sure the kids were awake for school I would set mine just in case. Now that they aren't at home any longer, the alarm is off but I'm still waking up at 5:00. And now, I just save recipes on TikTok to never make again! :)

  11. I have collected recipes and recipe books for 50 years! And I have inherited my mother and grandmother’s recipe hordes! I just can’t seem to part with any of them. I tried once by giving my daughter a cookie jar filled with recipes from my early married years to her father. I ended up asking for them back after I retired. She admitted that she didn’t know what had happened to them. So, I guess she can’t be trusted with my recipe legacy.🥴

  12. Old Potholders here too! LOL and a small wastebasket in the bathroom. It's insane. LOL

  13. I have ancient pot holders and oven mitts as well and I also have a good many photo negatives that probably date clear back to the 1980s.

  14. Happy February! You and I are very similar. I did just throw away some pot holders and kept just the nice ones. My family harasses me because I have a little wastebasket in the BR that I tell family they can't use, it's just for looks, and they can walk to the kitchen to throw things away. :)

  15. Oh such fun reading...I think we have memories attached to things (potholders) and hate to toss them. I did just throw some away - the thumbs had holes, what was the point in keeping them?! I take my purse because I'm afraid I might "need" it...heavens, I shudder to think what kind of "emergency" might happen in a move theater, but there you have it., What about the papers we "might" need someday? That's what clogs up most of my drawers - am I the only one with too, too much paperwork on hand?

  16. We are creatures of habit for sure. Time to throw out old potholders here too.

  17. I enjoyed reading your list. I like my Pinterest board and do refer back to it for ideas. I use potholders seasonally. Just packed away winter. Brought out Valentine things, dishtowels and potholders for February. I love you header. I love the country graphics you use. Where do you find them or do you make them? I use a small purse and wear it crossbody so I don't have to worry about it. Never on the ground! Happy February!

  18. Your list was funny. Made me think of things... My raggedest potholders are ones I made when my oldest was a toddler (probably 1990 or 92). They have his handprint on them. No way am I throwing those away. Why I didn't make some with my other two son's handprints is anyone's guess. Oh yes... I didn't have time then. :)

And you've made me wonder if listening to podcasts at bedtime might help me fall asleep. I have a terrible time, and get into the most ridiculous schedules. Going to start tonight!

So why do I entertain new hobbies when I don't seem to have time for all that I have going (and/or languishing as the case may be)?

Why do I go to the grocery to buy milk or any other one or two things and come out with a $70.00+ receipt?

I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one who does things that I wonder later, "Why do I do that?"

  21. I know what you mean about the movie theatre. I won't put my purse on the ground either, so I just bring in my wallet, it's much smaller. And those kitchen potholders - I do the same thing. I think it's because they are worn and we broke them in, like a baseball mitt. The new ones just aren't the same, are they? Oh, what a cute picture of Kermit.

    Happy February Billie Jo!
