So Much To Celebrate!

Well, my friends, the Christmas season is behind us. And that is not awesome. What lies before us are the long, cozy days of winter. Fortunately, the calendar provides us with several days to celebrate and enjoy as a means to break up the sometimes long, dark days until spring.

Years ago, when I had three little ones age ages five and under, as well as a hardworking husband who worked well past bedtime, I began celebrating these special days. We would do a craft, watch a movie, decorate the table, or make a special treat. It was simple. It was fun.

We continue to celebrate these special days with our little Flynn. It is easier now...or perhaps harder...due to the unending amount of inspiration available on Pinterest, Etsy, Amazon etc. But please do not let that pressure you into creating an elaborate themed production, when a small treat and a festive book will be more enjoyable for you all.

However you decide to celebrate or commemorate one or all of these special days, do it YOUR way. And enjoy it. That is what matters most. : )

  1. I so enjoyed this post, my friend, and I loved reading about how you made ordinary days special for your children. You are truly amazing, Billie Jo. I know I have said this before, but I look up to you as a mother and I appreciate your example. Thank you, friend.

    Happy day to you! Hugs!

  2. Billie JO,

I love this! I love taking a few special days and making them more special in the home. Thanks for the inspiration. I couldn't agree more that sometimes there is almost TOO much inspiration as far as pinterest, etsy, and etc. You are totally right about a festive treat and book is all it really takes.

I remember one Easter I wanted to do a PINTEREST type Easter. I had craft plans, decorations, and food. It was very elaborate. I quickly became overwhelmed by the book list that I got off Pinterest as well as making all the food. I lost focus and honestly the kids were not into it all.

But the next year due to health I only read a few special books, did one special treat, and simply decorated. We kept it all about Christ with some fun and it was so special. They loved it and we still remember it to this day and it has been a few years ago.

    Less is sometimes more.

    Blessings,
    Chrissy

  3. Awe What a sweet post. You know We are way over due for a new table and hutch...But I cant bring myself to let go of our table because although it is well well well worn lol each day as I wipe it down those worn areas bring back the nicest memories of me and my babies working on crafts and playdoh and baking cookies, etc. I see there little hands in mine as I taught them to draw, to color, to cut, helping them place each puzzle piece, I also can see them run right under the table as I held my breath hoping they didn't grow enough to hit it, I think every momma has been there. My husband thinks i'm nuts of course maybe ill be able to let go of it in a couple more years and I will always have our craft notebook to look back on. btw this post makes me want to go back and look at your folder post? I don't remember the name but I do know you helped me remember all those special days I would sometimes forget and also add so many I didn't think to celebrate, like Chocolate cake day! and although we always have cake and goodies around here (I love to bake) I tell ya friend, I've already got it on my calendar and have my ingredients ready. Thank you for that! have a great Day Billie Jo <3
