...summer. And how much I love it. Summer means different things to different people. And that is good. To some, summer means days spent at the beach or the pool, soaking up the sun. To others, it means parties and picnics and entertaining outside. To us, summer is some of all of that, mixed with mornings on the porch sipping coffee and milk, afternoons together watching classic movies like Jaws and The Poseidon Adventure, and dinners filled with grilled chicken and fresh produce from the Farmer's Market, followed by hours playing outside and enjoying warm nights with dripping ice cream cones.
My memories of summer as a child are wonderful, and I hope to provide my own children with happy memories of their very own. These are some of the things we have done this past week to add to our collection of summer memories, stored deep within our hearts...
We spent some fun time at camp...
and back home, read books and drank tea on the porch.
We cleaned out the garage, swept yucky cobwebs away, hosed off bikes and scooters, and got summer toys ready to go...
so that when it was finally hot enough, we were ready!
We ate cupcakes for breakfast...
and marveled at the beauty God shares with us.
(These nights always make me think my Dad is saying goodnight.)
And we said goodbye...for now...to this guy...
He has spent the past six weeks here and these two had the most wonderful time getting to know one another. We are so happy to have shared our home with such a nice, respectful, fun young man. : )
My Madison and her Nicolas. : )
Have a great weekend, my friends!
Good Morning Billie Jo! I just love your post, love everything you shared, especially of Flynn--oh how to be young again, smiles.
ReplyDeleteStorms here today as well, friend. It sure got humid. Have a lovely day-we are off to Time Warner (dispute a bill), then off to the school (return books-and get a refund) and then to the grocery store. Blessings
I think it is really special and kind of you to open you home and help Madison and Nicolas get to know each other better.
ReplyDeleteYou summer is colorful and beautiful!
Your summer sounds wonderful so far! Wish we lived closer so I could watch those movies with you. The Twelve of Never....that's the name of a Johnny Mathis song. I remember my Mom often listening to one of his tape cassettes (yes, tape cassettes) in our kitchen while she cleaned up after dinner and that song was on it. Thanks for jarring my memory today. Made me smile.
ReplyDeleteKeep enjoying those summer days!
Sounds idyllic, a wonderful summer.
ReplyDeleteThat's the kind of summer I like. Including the decluttering, lots of that over here too! Lovely that Madison and Nicolas were able to spend so much real time together. Does she have a trip to Denmark planned sometime?
ReplyDeleteThey are just the cutest couple!!
ReplyDeleteYour description of summer makes me feel so nostalgic and reminds me of my childhood. I am sure your children will cherish these years and the happy memories you have created for them!
ReplyDeleteSnacks and a movie during a stormy afternoon sounds so delightful! I may have to copy your idea for today as I'm noticing some clouds rolling in now and my boys have been asking to watch "Babe" for a few days. Enjoy!
What a fun post and lovely way of wrapping up the feeling of summer into a lovely little photo packed gift. There are just those special, soft night, lazy day, melty drippy, peaceful, moments that hit right at the heart.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to Madison and her Fella too. ;)
xoxo
Billie Jo, I want to spend the summer with you and your family! Cupcakes for breakfast! Love all the porch time! :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds beautiful. Do you mind if I do a post like that sometime? My childhood was full of wonderful summers. I'm with you, cupcakes for breakfast. Yummy! I'd like to hear the story of those two sweetie sometime.
ReplyDeletePerfect summer plans! Love some of those old movies too. Cupcakes for breakfast - -yes please! Hope you have a fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteSounds idyllic xx
ReplyDeleteI love all that you shared. There are days when I see pictures like these or on intsa and I wanna be there! I adore the Cinderalla mug for tea! And Flynn under the sprinkler.... the best!
ReplyDeleteThey are such an adorable couple! I always loved my summers growing up too and feel so blessed I can share them now with my girls...only problem is they go by way too quickly! Too bad we don't live closer, we could hang out with a nice cup of tea and chat
ReplyDelete:-) Have a wonderful weekend.
Blessings
,Jill
