Weekend Plans

Well, it seems our glorious autumn days are coming to an end. But I cannot complain....we were blessed with many bright, sunny days with crisp, cool temperatures and vibrant colorful leaves. Today the rains arrive, and with them...the winds that will grab those beautiful leaves and send them off, swirling through the air, before they settle on the ground to begin the process anew. 

As much as I love those beautiful days, I enjoy the dark, rainy ones too. Friday night we are planning a quiet night with grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, and some classic Halloween favorites. First...Elmo Says Boo! Then later, after a little one's bedtime...my annual Halloween viewing! I love that film...the original John Carpenter version from 1978. It isn't October without it. : )

Saturday looks to be cold and rainy. I need to do some lesson planning for school, which thankfully I totally enjoy, and then we have afternoon Mass. Plans are to go out for pizza after Mass and then head home for a cozy autumn evening.  I am envisioning a cup of decaf and my book. : )

Sunday is THE day! The Walking Dead returns!!!!! We are soooo excited! And nervous. And scared. And excited. Before the big event, we are planning on making some Halloween iced cookies to enjoy and share with friends. Peyton found some cute cookie cutters and can't wait to give them a try. We will also watch our Steelers...but unfortunately Big Ben will be out for several games. I feel badly for him. And for us. But really for him. And I am praying for a quick recovery for him.

That is what is happening with us. Here is a look back at the past week here in our country home.

Last Saturday was beautiful...

Grandma came to Mass with us, and stayed the weekend!

The days continued to be beautiful, and we took advantage of every single moment.

Sunday morning, I enjoyed a special treat...

As well as a sweet scented candle that burned all day and made our autumn home extra cozy.

Flynn's science unit was all about leaves.

Which was perfect, don't you think?

We read about leaves and why they change, took leaf walks, went on rides enjoying the colors, did leaf crafts and investigations, and finished it all off with a yummy chocolate leaf. : )

What I Ate Today

Because I'm sure you really want to know, right? Ok. Maybe not. But what the heck? Here goes...Don't judge me. Just keepin' it real here folks. : )

First thing first.

I take my pills with a cup of water with a splash of lemon juice.

And usually I add half a banana.

Taking pills on an empty stomach = ugh.

Oh. And the water in the mug?

OK. Here's the thing.

I have found I drink much more water if I drink it from a mug.

Purely psychological, I'm sure.

But it works for me!

Finally! Coffee time!

I actually go to bed happy because I know this is waiting for me in the morning!

I switch it up, but this is my current favorite.

And it is good. : )

Later, I sat down to breakfast.

Yes. I force myself to sit.

And today I had an over easy egg with a slice of whole wheat toast and strawberries.

Some days I have cereal.

On weekends I have pancakes or waffles.

Or doughnuts.

Because. Weekends.

Lunchtime!

This varies, but today I had a hoagie. Yep.

Steve brought some home and I was thrilled.

I balanced all that yummy ham and cheese goodness with peppers and dip and sliced peaches.

I like to be fair like that.

One of my favorite times of the day.

My afternoon coffee.

I sit a bit, sip my coffee, and recharge.

And she waits patiently for the very last sip.

Later in the afternoon, I found myself hungry.

I debated between cookies and yogurt.

My conscience won.

But honestly, this yogurt is super good.

And dinner.

I'd like to show you an elaborate meal, but on this night. we had a favorite.

Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup.

And no one complained. : )

And finally.

My bedtime snack.

Sometimes I have a cup of tea.

But tonight it was brownies and milk.

And that ended a very good day.

So there you have it.

Pumpkin Patch 2016

This time of year lends itself to many of our family traditions. Tonight we visited The Pumpkin Patch. We began this tradition years ago when Madison was but almost one year old. I remember I wore a cute pumpkin sweatshirt on her with black leggings. As she grew, and as we added more little pumpkins to our own little patch, we continued our tradition. Steve brings a truck home from work, the kids wear Halloween clothes...well, until they don't...and we listen to our favorite Halloween CD on our way there and on the way home. We get pizza or Subway and eat together at a table simply decorated to celebrate this fun time of year. This year we were missing our Madison, but got her a pumpkin anyway. : )

Weekend Plans

So I'm bringing back the Weekend Plans posts. Mainly because this is my favorite time of year, and I simply love the cozy autumn weekends. Not that we do anything remotely exciting, but because I imagine one day I will take a look back and remember the cozy family days we shared.

Friday evening we are staying in. Dinner will be Peyton's Stuffed Pepper Soup and homemade bread. I am hoping Peyton and Flynn will also make our favorite Spider Web Munch to enjoy as we watch It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. : )

Saturday I have some lesson plans to write and floors to vacuum. Then we have Mass at 4:15. I am actually loving this new Mass time, as it makes our evenings seem longer. Steve and I are planning to visit his Mum before having a date night at the theatre. I am hoping to see The Accountant with Ben Affleck. And eating tons of popcorn with butter.

Sunday looks beautiful, so we will probably spend some time outside before watching our Steelers play. I am planning on a crock pot meal involving beef and gravy simmering all day long. I am also penciling in a nap. : )

But before we step into the weekend, here is a look back at the past week here in our country home.

Steve, Rhett, his friend Austin, and Uncle Chris had a great time in the big city cheering on our Steelers!

So we celebrated with an evening Apple Fest Tea!

My Mom and my sweet niece Carly joined us as we enjoyed some yummy apple treats.

Flynn and Peyton made homemade applesauce...sooo good...and some delicious apple muffins with a recipe from my super sweet friend Danielle. We also tried some apple cider. : )

Fall is spoiling us this year...

And we are soaking it all in.

And she had some help from a very friendly witch!

Well, I think I will go enjoy a little Pumpkin Spice, my friends!
