Homeschooling And No Bake Granola Bars!

Wow. My post titles are surely getting lame, aren't they?? Or, perhaps...more direct. In any case, I am sharing some of our little homeschool space here today. This is the view from my desk. It is beautiful and peaceful. And the perfect spot to wait for the leaves to change. Still waiting. Still.

This is where Flynn and I spend our afternoons. This little space is in the open area on the second floor, so we have a cozy spot without much distraction in which to work. Flynn is in eighth grade, and honestly, I thought years ago that I loved the elementary years the best. I still hold a special place in my heart for those precious days of colors, numbers, shapes, and songs. Yet, I am finding the middle school years to be great in a different way. Flynn and I talk about things as we learn, and we both feel enlightened and excited when we explore something new. She enjoys World History a great deal, and I do as well. We are using a curriculum that takes an entirely chronological approach, and currently, we are studying the Mughal Empire in South Asia. She also really enjoys and excels in Geometry. Knowing my limits, I am using an excellent math program called Teaching Textbooks, now online, which allows her to bypass my areas of comfort involving math! Even as an eighth grader, she enjoys listening to some of our favorite Halloween books, the same ones I used to read to her as I sat in a rocking chair with her on my lap.

I'll leave you with a favorite snack idea that we all love. I thought I shared it before, so apologies if I have. I got this recipe from Peyton's husband's mom, who made a batch for us once. So easy! So good! Enjoy!

Click on the link for the original recipe. Clearly, we add some extra chocolate!

Well, I am off to start my day! I hope you have a cozy, lovely October day, my friends. Thank you for visiting!

Friday Thoughts

Morning, my friends! I am coming to you from my spot on the couch today, staring out at a gorgeous autumn day. The snow stayed just long enough to remind us what is to come. Today is bright and chilly, with the sun dancing off the leaves. Our weekend is relatively free, with the possibility of a few fall festivities, depending on the weather. Another thing I am taking into consideration lately is the resurgence of Covid in our area. This latest strain is highly contagious, and we have so many testing positive around here and getting very sick. While I know we cannot completely hide from it, I realize how serious it can be. So, there's that.

On a brighter note, Madison made pie. And it was delicious. Last night she brought a cranberry cherry pie with a crumble topping. I quietly thanked young mom Billie Jo for having kids in the kitchen with her all those years ago.

 Look at this beauty.

I don't write much about homeschooling anymore, but we are still at it and loving seventh grade. Flynn is the best student and is so interested in learning. She loves science, especially Earth and Space Science and World History. She excels at Math...thanks, Steve...and even secretly enjoys Grammar. I think. She is a good sport, too, allowing me to perpetually believe that she is still in elementary school. I just cannot give up the stickers.

Well, that's about it around here. I am off to listen to Taylor Swift's brand-new album. Later, I have to take Mocha to the vet for her yearly checkup. I am thinking of stopping at the Dunkin drive-thru for a little Pumpkin Spice Latte treat afterward. Dinner tonight is leftover goulash and Italian bread. And then, Flynn and I will probably watch a not-so-spooky movie before bed.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends. Thanks for visiting!!!

September Signs

Cozy throws adorned with colorful leaves ~ Freshly sharpened pencils and shiny new schoolbooks ~ A brand new month in my favorite planner ~ Lists of fall movies, meals, and desserts ~ And a favorite quote to welcome my favorite time of year ~

Have a cozy Wednesday, my friends! It is cooler and cloudy today here in Pennsylvania. Homeschool, dinner, and a relaxing evening of tv with my family are what is on tap today. How about you!

Back To School And A Birthday

After a fun-filled summer, Flynn and I officially began our homeschool year on Tuesday! And yes. My baby is in sixth grade! She is excited to be in Middle School, and I am excited for her. And to be completely honest, I am finding it necessary to prepare myself a bit more, especially in math and science!

In other news, Steve turned 51 on Wednesday! We celebrated him with dinner and cake and lots of laughter and love.

Have a nice weekend, my friends. I plan on joining Mocha in doing a bit of this...

...Along with some laundry, phone calls, and school prep.
Unfortunately, our area has seen an uptake in Covid cases, and my mom's personal care home has discontinued visits for two weeks. Thankfully we still have some wonderful phone visits daily.

Thanks for visiting and for your comments. I am always happy to hear from you!

The First Day Of School 2018

Not so long ago, our schoolroom was filled with four students. This year, we had one. One little, sweet third grader! Rhett began his cyber schooling last week, and was at work when we took these pictures. He is a junior this year. I know. How? In any case, my girl and I had a wonderful first day together.

First Day Of School 2017

Our little schoolroom opened today and we began our fifth year of homeschooling! It was a happy and cozy and successful day, and we look forward to many more.  : )

Our Second Grade student was up bright and early!

We got a picture with the Superintendent of Schools...

And a very happy Second Grade teacher.

After a delicious breakfast of pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, made by our in house Cafeteria Manager Peyton...

We headed into the schoolroom, and got to work.
Our Sophomore was up and ready too!!!

This year Flynn is looking forward to studying the continents in Social Studies, making an exploding volcano in Science, and using an actual spiral notebook for dictation.

Rhett is looking forward to being done Introduction to Business and lunch. : )

Have a wonderful school year, my friends!!!

A Peek Inside...Our Schoolroom 2017

It is that time of year again! Time to dust and sweep and prepare our little schoolroom for a brand new year. We began with four, and now we are down to two students in our little academy. But it is bright and cozy just the same. Rhett is a sophomore, and Flynn is in second grade, and I imagine Peyton will be spending some time in here too. Maybe as a substitute teacher or aide? : )

Prayers for a happy, healthy school year for you all!
Thanks for visiting!
