Morning, my friends! Happy Wednesday! I was looking for something in the kitchen last night, and I realized that, for some reason, I don't buy certain things for myself. Ever. For example, I do not own a rubber spatula. I have never thought to put a rubber spatula into my cart in all my Walmart grocery orders. I buy them for other people as gifts, but I don't have one myself. This got me thinking and wondering about other quirky things. Which, of course, I will share with you now.
Why does an ice cream cone from an ice cream place taste better than the one you make at home?
Why do I want to weigh what I did five years ago when five years ago, I wanted to lose weight?
Why does coming home from somewhere seem to take longer than getting there?
Why do I still have checkbook registers from 2003?
Why did they stop making Vanilla Cream PopTarts but still have Lemon Cream Pie ones?
Why do the winters pass quickly now, but three months of Physics class in 1986 lasted ten years?
Why do I love swimming but absolutely hate being in a wet bathing suit?
Why am I surprised that actors from my favorite old shows are, in fact, old now?
Why are there several half-empty containers of the same condiment in my fridge at the same time?
And why do I buy more because it is on sale?
I can relate to so many of these! I love this post. Happy Wednesday my friend! Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I ver much needed that scripture verse today.
ReplyDeleteSorry. Very, that is
DeleteHaha! Love it and relate very well if that helps you feel less quirky about it all. Except the rubber spatula. I live for buying kitchen tools and have way too many of everything. 😂 I especially agree that it seems any food someone else makes always tastes better than when I have to make it myself. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell I can give you a nerdy answer for the ice cream question, but I'll spare you the details :)
ReplyDeleteThese are good, and mostly true! The Pop Tart thing is likely because that flavor did not sell well. Too bad, it was delicious. I continue to be surprised and saddened by seeing an actor who has aged so much! LOVE your new header!!!
ReplyDeleteI will tell you why you do not own a rubber spatula....because you do not treat yourself as well as you do others. I do that too. Go get one and stop for an ice cream cone too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThis was so fun...I especially could relate to the weight one---AND I have all my check book registers dating back to 1965 when I started college and had my first checking account! It's fun to go thru them on occasion...really? I spent $2.06 at Woolworths and wrote a check for it? haha.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you on the wet bathing suit thing. We have a pool and I even change suit bottoms when I come inside to use the restroom because I cannot stand the thought of keeping the wet ones on.
ReplyDeleteBillie Jo, a rubber scraper/spatula is an amazing thing, buy one...or two! I never realized how handy they are until recently, especially for a frugal waste-hater like me...you can get every drop from the measuring cup! We also discovered the joy of baking with a baking scale, not to change the subject or anything. I too am shocked when I see how old Brooke Shields is, for example. She's still lovely, and has aged well, but how on earth did she get that old? Richard Gere? He's an old man! Anyway...loved this post, always love your blog. Go buy yourself that spatula...:)
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking to myself the other day that I wish I weighed as much now as I did when I used to think I was fat! :) And I also saw a Friends reunion online the other day and was shocked at how old they all looked! I enjoyed this list because so much of it is true!
ReplyDeleteOh boy! I can also relate to many of these. My biggest question today is...how stupid am I for agreeing to the 5th move in 2 1/2 years? I'm taking a break from packing right now. I just put seven, yes 7, garbage bagls FULL of yarn on the sofa and floor around it. Those are the huge bags by the way. And I still have a couple of boxes full not in the bags. This is our very last move unless my kids put me in a nursing home. lol Seriously. Hubby promises no more moves. I'm so sad to leave this apartment but we knew it would probably be only until we found a condo close to Mom. However, if I had known how short a time it would be I wouldn't have settled in so deeply. It's so fast though. We looked at the condo last Saturday and we close on it on Friday! Six days! We've never bought a house so quickly before.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed evening my dear friend, I need to get back to packing.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
This was a fun and interesting post. I am totally right there with you with the whole weight loss thing. I love the scripture at the end. One of my favorites. I hope you enjoy the rest of the week. See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteThe one that most fits me is the multiple condiments in the fridge. You know, way in the back, hidden? What's helped me oodles is a fridge with the freezer on the bottom...now I can see, at eye level, all the things that used to be at the bottom, in the dark recesses of my old fridge! And yes, hit the Publish button, these things make us smile!
ReplyDeleteI need to throw out some of the condiments from my fridge and start fresh for summer. Hmmm….
ReplyDeleteI have several rubber spatulas. Pampered Chef makes the best ones…or they did 20 years ago. That’s how long I’ve had mine. We use condiments very slowly here. I often just toss the older ones and replace them with new ones. Physics class?!? I would stay far away from that one! Not a good student of the sciences at all. Biology and chemistry were enough for me! This was a good mid-week post!
ReplyDeleteMany of these questions roll through my mind from time to time...especially the one about condiments. My refrigerator overfloweth and the pantry shelves bear witness to my susceptibility to a good sale.
ReplyDeleteI have the opposite problem with rubber spatulas. We have so many!! But also the condiments.
ReplyDeleteGood questions and I love that you hit publish!
Hahaha :) I love this post, because this is exactly the kind of thing my brain does and I always think that I would love to hear other people's answers to my silly questions! The weight loss question is hilarious! Yes, why is my "goal weight" a number that seemed outrageous the last time I actually weighed that much? Oh, how I would love to be at that weight again!
ReplyDeleteOh, you made me laugh on this one, Billie Jo. That's so true, an ice cream cone from an ice cream place DOES taste better than the one you make at home. I'm not familiar with those flavors of PopTarts, as I always get the Cherry ones. And I know what you mean about the aging actors of our favorite old shows. I came across someone the other day, and thought the same thing! I love the Pilippians quote, and it came at a good time, as I will be traveling soon, and getting a bit nervous. Loved your unique post today, Billie Jo.

Ha! I can't answer most of these, but I do think you should buy yourself a spatula! And, I actually LOVE ice cream cones at home. It's one of my favorite parts of summer.
