Wednesday Wisdom

Not that I have many, but it sounded good! When I was a young mother with four precious little ones at home, the days were filled with things to do, meals to make, games to play, shows to watch, and laundry to fold. I loved every minute, from breakfasts on the porch to afternoon movies, ice cream cones after dinner, and baths before bed. With three of my children grown and my baby almost thirteen, my days are far less busy and much quieter. If I am not mindful, I could start to feel sorry for myself and wonder what in the world I should do with my time!

Thankfully, Flynn enjoys spending time with her mom, and we have fun binge-watching shows, listening to music, and swimming in the lake. However, I still have a great deal of free time, so I am learning to embrace it rather than fear it. I find it helpful to get up and get ready for the day, even if the day holds no concrete plans. Another thing I do every morning is make my bed. Something about smoothing the sheets and fluffing the pillows makes me feel as if I accomplished a major task! I also remind myself that it is perfectly ok to take time for myself, whether that means spending time reading or napping in the afternoon.

I try to plan and prepare healthy and delicious meals for my little family, even if they are not as elaborate or consistent as they once were. Last night I threw some leftover grilled chicken breast into some Barilla pasta sauce and steamed some store-bought green beans. Sometimes Steve or Rhett brings dinner home. And that is ok too. Our lives are full of seasons, I suppose. No sense hanging onto one when the time comes to move to another. Every season has beauty, right? Like the buds in the spring, the green in the summer, the glorious colors of the fall, and the barren beauty of winter, peace, and joy can be found in every season. The key is adapting, embracing, and being grateful for each one.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, my friends!
Thanks for visiting.

Billie Jo

  1. We do go through different phases throughout life and I've found it's best to roll with it and make the changes necessary to make the most of it all.
I hope you have a lovely summer day!!

  2. Adapting, that is the key. The empty nest is not all it's cracked up to be...at least not at first until we get our "sea legs" so to speak and find balance in our new phase of life. If you can do that, then it's pretty sweet!

  3. Hi Billie Jo~ You are so wise. I am in the beginning of the fall of my life. As a young mother this time felt so very far away, but now it's here and I'm trying to embrace it. I try to see my grands as much as possible, but they are growing up as well, and most likely, I will be holding great grandchildren before I know it. I try to remember it's all in the plan and all is well. Enjoy your Wednesday! Hugs, Barb

  5. I love your life and wish it were mine. But reading about yours calms me and reminds me that I can have this if I would just slow down....

  7. It's true that we do go through different seasons of life. I think we are both in the same "season of life" with daughters almost the same age and in the same grade. Thank goodness my one and only likes to spend time with me and we have lots of fun together. Just know that you are not alone in this particular season of life, my friend. I hope you have had a good day!

  8. I like making food from scratch which I did last evening for dinner. Thai Chicken bake. It had be awhile since I made it. I remember enjoying being with my 2 young children for years, doing homeschool when we came to Oregon and had a friend share how good it was. We did it for years and good days and get thru the weird times as well. Both of them are adults and one has adorable 3 children with oldest being 14 years old....already? I enjoy seeing them as well. My daughter and I went to see two different movies within weeks of each other. Looking forward to another one when it comes out. Enjoy your season in life and take care of yourself, as we all should do. I need to go to bed early tonight due to getting up at 7:30 a.m., get breakfast and watch virtual YL convention. It would be fun to be there in person but don't have enough money or time off work to get there. Maybe next year, but it is cheaper to watch on line! Hugs and blessings, Becky

  11. Wonderful words of embracing each season and being thankful for what's right in front of you. Had to take yet another road trip and it wasn't pleasant at all, down in the valley and hot, but I always find things along the way that make me smile. Your chicken breast and pasta sauce sounds delicious. And I love that red heart pillow on your bed. Your bed looks nice and cozy, Billie Jo. Have a good rest of the week, my friend.

Oh, and your lemon blog design is perfect for Summer. Nothing like a cold drink with lemon in the Summer. : )

  12. Beautiful post! I definitely have trouble with change so each season seems to hit me hard. With one child going into middle school and the other high school I find myself missing those baby and toddler years but I do enjoy who my kids are now. It's tough but rewarding.
