The Evolution Of Milestone Birthdays

Yep. It was time for my first screening colonoscopy.
I was not excited about it.
I was downright anxious.
(Health Anxiety tends to do that.)
I thought about the fact that the inconvenience of one day in my life could prevent something very dangerous in my future.
The prep drink is not bad at all when mixed with Gatorade.
The hardest part was not eating all day, but I can sleep anytime, anywhere, for any length of time, so guess how I spent most of my prep day?
Well, that and texting with some awesome friends for support and some laughs.
The procedure was quick and painless.
After a drink of cranberry juice and a visit from the doctor, I was on my way.
Thankfully, the doctor gave me what she called her Gold Star, and told me I would not have to return for ten years!

Next up, my yearly eye doctor appointment.
Then in April, my yearly gynecological appointment and mammogram.
And finally, my yearly checkup.

Do I enjoy these things?
Does the thought of them make me anxious?
Am I thankful they are available to me?

Just a reminder to take care of yourself, my friends.
Sometimes it is easy to forget when we take care of everyone else, right?
Ok. End of lecture.

Have a cozy Wednesday!

  1. This post made me smile, so glad you're taking care of yourself! Plus, a Gold Star! That's excellent news!

  2. Good job!
I just got the cherry coffee cake in the oven from your recipe. Tried it once before and it's amazing. Today we're taking it to our granddaughter and her husband and 3 kids for Valentine's Day.

  3. I am refusing to do the colonoscopy. Plain and simple, no. I have just about had it with the "over 50 and that's what the guidelines are" nonsense. Look, and this is what I told the dr. "After breast cancer and having a full adominal hysterectomy, I am done. Hear me roar." After dealing with my husband and his two colonoscopies, enough. ((grin))--I'll do it on my time, not the guidelines.(and p.s. I can't have Gatoraid-too much sodium)

Excellent news on the Gold Star, Billie Jo. You are so brave and I mean that with all sincerity. Smiles

  4. I need this lecture! I need to be brave and go to the doctor for a check up. You are an inspiration to me! Hugs to you. ~Juli

  5. Good news on the gold star! You know what they say, old age isn't for sissy's! I just can't bring myself to have a colonoscopy...that said, I know people who would not be here if it weren't for that test. Good job, Billie Jo!

  6. You're taking care of your health! It was uncomfortable for me but I am glad it got done.

  7. Good for you. Getting older comes with a lot of maintenance and you're right, we're lucky they are offered and available to us. I didn't think the colonoscopy was so horrible either....but boy oh boy was I ready for a meal.

  8. Cheers to you for taking care of yourself, and welcome to the age of colonoscopies, I've had my share. My dad had colon cancer so myself and my siblings all had the screening at an early age. then 10 years went super fast so another screening it was. So far so good and that drink is nasty business. Glad you received a good bill of health!!!

  9. I'm glad it all went smoothly for you. X

  10. You are very wise to take care of yourself and health. Glad everythng went well.

  11. I had my 1st one when I was supposed to, another one and the next one 10 years. Not pleasant but necessary. I have done all of my yearly check-ups and the dentist is next week (my least favorite). Glad you are good for 10 years. We all need to pay attention and take care of our bodies. Sending hugs and prayers your way.

Thanks so much for saying hello!
