Memorial Day

Our first Memorial Day in our new home was different from past years. Different, but good. I am a creature of habit. I thrive on tradition. Memorial Day has always meant matching red, white, and blue shirts from Old Navy, colored paper bags for candy, and watching our small town's parade beneath the shade of the same old tree. It always included a trip to the store for flowers, then planting them in the hot sun. This year was different. But you know what? It was just as great. Really.

My heart is full of those sweet memories.
This year we made new ones!

No parade?
No problem!
We went out to breakfast instead!

And this little lady got the biggest, most delicious strawberry milkshake ever made.

If you look closely, you will see the spot our puppies sit while they wait for us to return.

Still waiting!

My dear sister Margie sent me this picture while she was visiting my Dad.
She and her husband go up every Memorial Day to clean his stone after the long winter.
Because we know he would want it that way. : )

The rest of our day included sitting on our deck, taking afternoon naps, and cooking hot dogs over the fire pit. We finished the night with the most delicious strawberry shortcake made by Peyton.

I hope your Memorial Day was filled with memories of your own.
Both old and new.

Thanks for visiting!

  5. I have come to realize that change can be a good thing, smiles. We are the upper keepers of the family Graves. My mom's name is the same as yours. Hope you have a good day, friend.

  6. I hear your words, and I know how you feel because I struggle with change too. Especially now since I've moved and things are different. Not bad, just different. It's all ok as long as we have our memories and we can look forward to making new ones! Your day looks lovely!!! I love the puppies and also can we talk about that milkshake! Way to go Flynn!!! ♥

  9. Lovely times at your new home, Billie Jo. Such cute photos of your children through the years. And the photo of Flynn and Peyton with the doggie in the window is darling. I love the stone on your new house--reminds me of England. ♥

  10. Okay... so is Flynn going to be your tallest child after she is all grown or is it just the way the picture looks?

Love you * new * memorial day!

  17. So nice to look back on all our Memorial Day memories, but I think I might like the breakfast tradition better! ;) I LOVE the pillows and flowers you've put on the front porch. A little touch of our old home. <3
