My Morning Routine

My morning routine can change because of many things... the weather, the season, and the ages of my children, to name just a few. One thing never changes. My need for a few moments every morning to pause and take care of myself physically, spiritually, and mindfully. This is my current morning routine, the one that helps me care for myself, in order that I can then care for others.

The first thing I do is make myself a hot cup of water with lemon.
Madison suggested I start my day with this, and wouldn't you know it?
I love it!

Then I make myself comfortable in this special spot.
I used to do all this in my bedroom, but I found that having a separate place to begin my day made it a bit more special.

The first thing I do is fill and start my diffuser.
I am late to this essential oil craze,
but am finding it very helpful and comforting.
My favorite one for the morning is peppermint.
It seems to get my mind awake and moving!

Then I get my prayer book out of this little basket I keep near my chair.
I have found that keeping all my things together means an easier start to the day. : )

Prayers are first.
Always.

Then I read some of this book...
My current favorite Mindfulness Book.

Next, I jot a few thoughts in this little journal.
I am on my sixth year...this is a new one...and I love looking back at the ways we spent our days in previous years. I can imagine my grandchildren reading these words years from now. : )

Lastly, I choose one of my favorite meditation apps and spend five to ten minutes clearing my mind,  focusing on the moment, and refreshing my soul.
Then. Coffee.
Amen.

There you have it, my friends.
My morning routine.
Someday it may involve an exercise portion.
Ok. Maybe not. : )

I'd love to hear about your mornings, my friends.

Have a wonderful day!

  3. I'm sure your peaceful start to your day makes for a great beginning to a beautiful day. When I begin my day similar to this it goes so much better. I sometimes linger in bed too long to allow it to happen. That really is no excuse. Thanks for reminding me of it this morning. ♥

  5. Hi~

Your morning routine sounds very peaceful and calm. My father used to drink hot water with lemon, every morning, he loved it as well. I think it's important to have a space of your own to pray, meditate, ponder and just think...quiet is good!

I have been using an oil diffuser for a while, I love it. Peppermint seems to be the, Pick-me-up oil that I like to go to as well. I also love any calming blends. I have one with rose oil in it that is wonderful.

    Have a wonderful Monday.
    Hugs,

  6. What a great routine! I will have to look into the meditation apps, I said that last time you mentioned them so hopefully I have a bit more follow through this time. I bought a Scentsy diffuser and some oils not expecting much but so I could have them as examples. Imagine my surprise when I wound up really liking them. Peppermint is one of my favorites for sure. Putting everything you need in one place does make all the difference doesn't it? Have a wonderful Monday!

  7. Sounds wonderful. I will have to check that journal out. I love journals. I also have a similar routine and if I don't do it I can tell a huge difference in my day.

  8. I love getting a glimpse into your morning! That 5yr journal looks really cool! I need, NEED to set some time apart in the morning to do something like this. Our mornings can be sometimes pretty hectic and I would like to bring some more calm. Thanks Billie Jo for the inspiration!!!

  9. Coffee, daily Mass readings, and prayer! That's how I start my day. And always before everyone else is up. A quiet house makes for a peaceful start to my day. Happy Monday, Billie Jo!

  10. I love it! I am going to check out those meditation apps! I start my mornings with breakfast and scriptures and journal writing - then rushing out the door to be at school for my "A hour" class at 6:30 a.m.. I sure would like to have a more "mindful" morning like you, but I do the best I can with the time I have. I have heard that water with lemon juice is a great morning drink. I also love my diffuser. I even have one at my desk at school. I usually put blood orange oil in mine, but sometimes, I add peppermint as well. Hope the coming week goes well for you and yours!

  11. I was doing so well with my morning routine until we brought the doggy home. Sigh... She loves me and needs me and it's hard to find that quiet time first thing now. (It's like having a newborn!)

  12. Oh love this Billie Jo!
My mornings start with getting my kiddos off to school. Then I take some time for my devotional - sometimes I journal and sometimes I don't. I'm not good about doing an exact routine every day - so it can vary. But I try to take some time out like this to center myself. When I'm being really good I do exercise as well. I also call my Hubby at work at some point every morning to see how his day is going and we chat about what will be happening in the evenings later (kiddos' sports etc). And i usually talk to my Mom every AM too.

Thanks for another glimpse into your days. It makes you feel that much closer dear Friend. Blessings on your week ahead! xoxo

  15. Love your routine and this post because this is actually a post I've been wanting to do well of routines in my day. I started to reply here and it got long - fast lol so I will write it all out in a post. but in a nut shell my "alone time" while my household sleeps is up at 5 or 5:30 shower and dress, get my drink either Hot water & Lemon or Hot tea and always 2 cups of room temp water. I light my Kitchen candle and say a quick prayer for my household and that I have an open heart and mind while in the word, Then I sit down and open my bible I am in the word until 5:50 when I start my "momma routine" making breakfast, lunch helping where needed, etc. till I say Goodbye to my family around 7:30
