Just For Fun

Things I did that my kids won't -

Slathered this strong-scented stuff on sunburnt skin

Ate these during homeroom because they made me look cool

Picked up pictures from the drug store and had no idea what they were

Pushed my tray through the line at Ponderosa, hoping and praying they had chocolate pudding

Watched the news being reported without any bias or agenda

And waited all year for my favorite Christmas shows, and appreciated every single minute

That's it for today, my friends! Except I am curious if you can name any of these favorite Christmas shows??

Check down below for the answers!

Billie Jo

1. Santa Claus is Coming to Town
2. Roudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
3. Jack Frost
4. The Year Without a Santa Claus

Google for the fun.

  1. I remember when those Christmas specials would be on, you were glued to that tv, and all of your friends were watching too. When I was having babies, we never paid to have the television in our room turned on, until our sixth child was born, on December 10th, 1992...because I knew one of those was going to be on, maybe Rudolph....I hadn't seen it in years! Ponderosa...yup, those crispy chicken wings. The kids loved the soft ice cream and cookies. The six o'clock news was sacred in our house, we didn't make a sound when daddy was watching it. :).

  2. Yes! I remember all the things you mentioned. Some make me sad that they aren't around any more. My sister and I were just talking about the Christmas specials and how we loved to watch them.

  3. I do remember being so excited those specials were coming on, kids have no idea what suspense we lived in.

  4. I remember all of these! I wonder if there are any Ponderosa's left? Seems like Golden Corral replaced them. We still use breakfast bars that are similar to these.

  10. Yes to all of these!! Those were the days :) Noxema was the cure for all things! I can still smell it :) And we waited all year for those shows, The Wizard of Oz, Snoopy, Little Drummer Boy...
Such great memories of growing up during those times.

  11. It's amazing how I can relate to all of these. I often think of all the things I had that my kids are missing out on. The simpler days, for sure.

  12. Memory lane - still love all those Christmas shows! Can we add Jiffy-Pop to the mix?!

  13. Oh, these made me chuckle, my friend. I totally remember picking the pictures up from the store and waiting anxiously to see all the pictures I took. I really miss those times and that method. Everything is downloaded on the computer now. I didn't use Noxema, but if you ever get a sunburn, aloe vera gel soothes and heals. Oh my, watching the news and hearing just the facts. I miss that too. And Yes, I was familiar with Rudolph, and Santa Claus is coming to town! Loved the fun post this morning, Billie Jo. Have a blessed day.

  14. I almost nver comment but enjoy your light writing style. If you ever get a hankering for Ponderosa there is still one in Butler, PA.

  15. I recognized Rudolph but that was the only one. The photographs, I actually have one of those packets sitting on my table right now. But I do know what's inside! :) (Family photos I'm putting in my Christmas cards.) And Walter Cronkite. I actually read that in his voice. This was a fun post!

  16. Such great memories! Our kids will never know the excitement of waiting for film to be developed! Imagine, having to wait a few days (or more) for pictures to be developed! Unheard of these days! And I can still smell the Noxzema. Truth be told, sometimes I'm tempted to buy it and use just for old times sake! :) Love everything about this. The good old days! xx

  17. I love this so much dear fellow 70's Sister. Lol I can literally smell that jar just seeing that photo. And I had completely forgotten about Ponderosa! Oh what memories that brings back. The dishes covered in cling wrap and the tray being pushed like a grand cafeteria. I love when you post these because it brings so many treasured memories back. And yes...when the Christmas specials felt truly like an event you waited for all year! I don't think our kiddos get to appreciate anticipation they ways we did - which is too bad really. Thanks for sharing! :)
