Hello! Happy Wednesday! You know, getting older has many perks. Yesterday, I realized that small things are what really make me happy these days. In the kitchen, I pulled out the garbage can to throw something away. The garbage had been emptied, and a fresh, clean, empty bag was waiting. I am not kidding when I tell you I felt happy! Knowing that I didn't need to jam my stuff into an overflowing mess, that someone had emptied it, most likely Flynn, and that I didn't need to worry about it made me happy. What other things bring me joy, you ask? I thought about that and came up with a few random things that made me smile.
- Opening the dishwasher to see it is still dirty. No unloading!
- A refrigerator stocked with leftovers the day after Thanksgiving
- Opening the dryer to find no clothes that need folding
- Finding an extra gallon of milk in the back of the fridge
- Wiping the kitchen counter and turning off the light after dinner
- Getting into a bed with freshly washed sheets
How about you, my friends? What things make you happy on an ordinary day?
Oh, forgot one! Stepping outside on my front porch to let the dog out and seeing this.
Have a cozy day!
Billie Jo
Little things that make me happy are good hair days, a hot bowl of some kind of comfort food on a cold evening, sitting in the warm sun reading a good book and blogger buddies like you.
ReplyDeleteYou and I enjoy many of the small happy things. Dishwasher!! Hate unloading it! Garbage under the sink! Always needs emptying! I could go on and on. My best happy is Scruffy snuggled up by my side and being a GOOD boy! lol. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteFor me it's when the indoors recycling bag has been brought out. And when I get the mail. Even when it's junk, getting the mail is my favorite. Oh, when you come home and the dryer is running and your yard smells like clean laundry. That's definitely a thing for me too.
ReplyDeleteCould not love this (& you) more my Friend. So very true....I think the older we get the wiser we get with not sweating the big stuff - and finding more wonder in the little things. I relate with your list for sure! And will add finding money in a random coat pocket I didn't remember was there. A perfect stranger holding open the door at a store and wishing me a good day. My kiddo helping me haul in groceries without my having to ask. The smell of coffee brewing in the morning (that is the best!) 😉
ReplyDeleteI am blessed with waking up to a fresh pot of hot coffee each morning. I am also blessed with not having to rush my mornings. However, it is a bit of a lost feeling sometimes. Thank you for sharing, reading everyone's comments brightened my day. ~jackie see~
ReplyDeleteThat last one- the VERY best. I love the smell and feel of clean, fresh sheets after my night time shower when I'm all cozy in my p.j.'s and the day is done. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your list, especially #6! I also love my first cup of hot tea every morning when I sit down to read my Bible and devotion book, even more when the fireplace is turned on!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful fall scene! A few small things I love: sunny days, being up before everyone else in a quiet dark house, an empty dishwasher, waking up to the sound of the cat pestering me (instead of an alarm clock), & hearing the same song on the radio at the beginning and end of the day if it's a workday.
ReplyDeleteYes, it really is the small things! A young guy working at a drive thru food place told me one day that he liked my earrings!! A young guy telling old me that - so shocking! I was stunned and it made me feel so good! :) Seeing your beautiful trees would definitely make me happy too!
ReplyDeleteWaking up to 13 Marco Polo video images from my sister who was at the Melbourne Zoo, and seeing the amazing grounds. When the coffee just finishes brewing when you get up. A wonderful Bible verse during your daily devotional.
ReplyDeleteSimple pleasures are the best and we don't even know it!
ReplyDeleteI love this post, Billie Jo! It really is the little things I love as well. Your gorgeous view is amazingly lovely. The little things are really the big things in the overall scheme of life for me!
ReplyDeleteLeftovers make me happy! Such an easy meal!
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to be grateful for the little things. That picture from your front porch is stunning! Glad you are having a good week!
ReplyDeleteFinding things to be thankful for throughout the day is so good for making it a good day.
ReplyDeleteThe view from your porch is so pretty!
oh yes I hear you with the dirty dishwasher LOL
ReplyDeleteJillxo
I love the orange check background:) It makes me happy. I can relate to everything on your list, but especially the dirty dishwasher! LOL
ReplyDeleteI agree. It really is the little things, isn't it? I'm always so happy to find that someone else has unloaded the dishwasher or taken out the trash - I'm not a fan of either. The view from your front porch is stunning! Hope you are having a cozy day.
ReplyDeleteOh my, all of those things would do it for me...especially the emptied garbage. That NEVER happens here. My hubby, bless him, will just pile it on top. Oh, one other silly thing that always makes me smile is being the first one to put a knife in the butter or the peanut butter.
ReplyDeleteThinking of my friends makes me happy! Miss you! : )
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree - it’s the simple things that really make me smile. You made me laugh- oh to find a trash can about to overflow! Right now it’s easy to find things - pumpkin scented candles, glowing pumpkins, cozy blankets, beautiful leaves and even turning off the lights at bedtime and knowing all is well.
