Good morning, my friends. I hope your weekend was fun, cozy, productive, and restful. I woke this morning with a jumbled list of things I wanted to accomplish this week swirling in my head. I talked with my sweet mom on the phone as I do every morning, and as I did, I thought about how not that long ago, she was a middle-aged wife, mother, and homemaker. I realized just how quickly these days and years fly by, and that if we are busy fretting and stressing about how to get it all done, we will miss the beauty of the day to day living in this wonderful world. And so today, as I go about my daily tasks, I am going to think about all the women I know that have come before me. I am going to do my work with joy and love and respect for them, because I imagine, if they had the chance, each one of them would gladly come back and sweep her kitchen, fold the laundry, prepare dinner, and wipe kitchen counters just one more time.
Have a cozy day, my friends.
Thanks for stopping by!
My mother did all those things but she did not wear dresses around the house - always slacks. And she really did enjoy being a housewife as it seemed to be her calling. It sure made for a wonderful childhood for me.
ReplyDeleteMy mom was a working mom...us kids were expected to pick up the "slack". I have always kept home and would imagine I would do so when I start work in May-June. smiles
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful perspective on our daily chores. I love this post! Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little disturbed by just how happy and smiling these perfectly put together women are. It paints a false picture that all women should look perfect and clean house with a smile. I am a stay at home mom as well.. by choice but I do not look like that and most often than not I'm not beaming with joy. It's a very hard and very underappreciated job.
ReplyDeleteAmen. In this crazy world I truly try not to sweat the small staff. It's so much easier to do with aging. I guess patience and wisdom to grow as one's birthday numbers grow. 😉 But I think especially after going through the hardest years of my life recently...everything was put in that much more perspective. So I am now that much more grateful for a sunbeam, and my daughter's smile, and all the blessings that God has granted me. Even through the darkest days. ☀️
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. I remember when homemaking was considered an art. My mom was a stay-at-home mom. These old pictures bring back good memories. I sometimes wish life was a bit more like it was back then. Thanks for this post.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely thoughts...such a good reminder to treasure each moment, even the ordinary ones!
ReplyDeleteHappy new week, Billie Jo!
Your are right. There is no sense in worrying. Every single moment is a gift.
ReplyDeleteI needed this post:) Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed day, I plan on enjoying mine! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteI have developed a huge appreciation for just "being home", which usually means housework, making meals, sorting or organizing something or other...or of course relaxing and socializing. I sometimes get these flashes of myself in the future, being no longer mobile, and longing for the days when I COULD sweep, mop, and vacuum. Hena commented that it's not always like in your pictures, of course not, but we could ALL use some encouragement to be happier in our days. It is HARD work, raising kids. And my house was never like that either.

That is so nice that you talk with your mom every day. I always love the vintage photos you share. And it's wonderful that you think about the women before you who did all the things in their home to make their families comfortable and safe. I wonder if the younger generations do this. I think it's important because we learn from our Mothers and Grandmothers. I love that last picture. What a charming post, Billie Jo. : )
