All The Things From A Busy Week

Well, where did we leave off? Monday, right. I checked off the dreaded mammogram and gynecological visit on Monday, and am thankful for the normal results. Tuesday was my dentist appointment. Oddly enough, this is not something that bothers me. Go figure. The result of that quick visit is that I should rethink the amount of movie theatre popcorn I consume. Enough said. Onward. Wednesday was my yearly visit to the dermatologist. Having had a bout with Basal Cell Skin Cancer a few years ago, I am always a bit anxious for this appointment, although my doctor is the absolute best. She is so patient and thorough with me. I had a list of things I needed reassurance on, and she went through them with me. I did have two small spots taken off, and she feels very strongly that they will be fine, either nothing, a precancerous lesion, or a basal cell. I can deal with that. I am waiting for the results, and am using this time to practice working on sitting with my anxiety, knowing that I will deal with whatever happens in the future, and not allowing it to affect my today. Funny enough, side note here: one of the spots she removed wasn't on my list at all!

So that wrapped up the appointments for the week. Thursday was rainy, gloomy, and cozy here, so Flynn and I did some schoolwork because homeschool knows no bounds. And I did begin the Purge of 2026, starting in our bedroom, where I proceeded to take everything out of my hope chest, feel all the feelings, and promptly put everything back in. After that, I hopped into my unmade bed and took a nap. I will always be real here, my friends. I was beat.

I am free from appointments until next week, so I plan on working around the house to pack, sort, and pitch the items that remain here. Peyton and Chris are always happy to help, and again, I am thankful. Between appointments and clearing the house, we have spent the best time with Peyton and Chris. They have had us over for dinner, games, and movies, and every time I leave their home, I am filled with happiness for the life my second-born has made with her Christopher. If I may be so bold as to offer a little bit of unsolicited advice, pray for your children. Pray that God will bring the person he has chosen for them into their lives in His way, in His time. He will hear you.

Here are some pictures of the happy chaos around here this week. First up: my obligatory photo for Madison, showing her what I was wearing when we went to dinner with my best friend Heather and her husband Dave on Tuesday night.

Always treat yourself after a dreaded medical appointment. It is a rule, I think.

Peyton and Chris had us for dinner on Wednesday after we returned from the dermatologist. She always has everything ready and organized! Steve cooked the hamburgers, and we ate outside of their beautiful home in the most peaceful yard.

Again, I will always be real here. Please note me in this picture with their pup, Tundra. I am wearing another of Rhett's t-shirts from his donate pile because, clearly, I can't pack properly, and Steve's slip-on shoes because I am too lazy to find my own. And I am sporting a lovely bandage right in the middle of my forehead where the doctor removed an annoying spot. So while you mostly see photos of me all ready to go out, know that this is more typical of how I look on a daily basis.

We had hamburgers, homemade macaroni salad, fries, and fresh fruit. All delicious. And then we went inside and played dominoes while a thunderstorm roared outside. Peyton outdid herself again, with a completely homemade ice cream cake for dessert!

It was amazing. And, she kept the rest for another night! The remaining photos are proof that I still enjoy my couch time with the pups. Whenever I have to go out, I look forward to coming home, showering, and putting on my housedress before hitting the couch. Time to relax is not wasted time. I feel very strongly about that.

I apologize for not being around to visit. I will look forward to catching up with you this weekend, my friends. Until then, thank you for the support, kind words, and friendship. I read and reread every comment, and for those of you who have upcoming appointments as well, I am thinking of you. Don't let anxiety of the future steal your joy of today. My therapist's words...not mine! Go, check it off your list, and treat yourself. I am with you in spirit!

Long car rides and waiting rooms are conducive to Pinterest scrolling. Here are a few I saved and would love to share with you before I go.

Ok. I am done!
But...

and

Happy Weekend!

  1. I look forward to reading your blog whenever I see that you have posted. You have such a beautiful family and you are such a lovely person. Do you ever say where the house is that you are leaving and where you will be living permanently. I would like to have a mental picture. I am new to your blog.

    1. Hello! I am so happy you are here. Yes, we are selling our house on the lake in Pennsylvania, where we both grew up. We are relocating to the house we have in Maryland near the ocean. We vacationed there for many years, and decided to make it our forever home. Three of our four children live there as well.

  2. I love your REAL. I am right there with you on praying for our children to find the perfect person to spend their life with. We have made some mistakes along the way but now have seen much happiness in our kids' lives. Now I am praying for long-term happy relationships for my grandkids. I think a couple of them are "on their way" to their "happy ever after".
I might have missed something but are you thinking of moving?
I had places zapped on my face 2 weeks ago and have to go back to have a couple of them rezapped. Non-cancerous but annoying. I also had a basal cell removed many years ago and that was pretty traumatic at the time. I don't mind dr visits but hate having anything done to my face. lol. Guess I am not a candidate for botox or a facelift then.
Happy weekend- enjoy every moment of it! xo Diana

  3. Happy Friday Billie Jo! I'm always so happy to see that you've posting. So many happies in todays post. I love the screen door on Peyton's house. The cake and burger look amazing. I love your t-shirt and shoes and YOU! I think we could be good friends in "real" life. I love how you pray for your children's future spouses. We have done the same thing. We have two grand children in their early 20's and one just two weeks old! We're already praying for all five of our grand babies too. The meme's are perfect and fit me to a T. Especially the last one. Ha! Ha! Ha! I go to the dermatologist Monday morning for my "full body" check. Oh goody. My sister just had 3 more spots removed last week. Our family doesn't do well with skin issues. Must be the pale German skin. :-)
Wishing you the happiest of weekends. Long naps, lots of couch time and oodles of time with your family.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  4. I hardly ever comment, but I read all the time. We share the same birthday, as a matter of fact, so I feel there's a legitimate reason we have similar traits! :) Anyway, I mostly wanted to comment to say "Thank you" for your encouragement to pray for the person God has chosen for your kids. This has been on my mind quite a bit, lately, as I see my kids get a little more anxious with each year...and a little sadder, too. But I just hit the realization this morning, that there is nothing I can do to fix it...only God can, and I know he will! And then this morning reading your words...I know it will be all right. (Which I knew before, but let's be real, we all waver, and I can see that this was meant to bolster my spirits.) So thank you! Wishing you and your beautiful family a wonderful weekend. xx Jen.

  5. Hooray for getting through all those appts and then having fun! I am with you - get home and get comfy - which also goes along with the clip on checking for neighbors when trying to get the amazon package when not wearing a bra. Made me LOL!

  9. Those memes were so funny! Especially 'I'm always just four missed calls away!' That made me laugh.
And when you wrote about taking everything out of your hope chest, feeling all the feels and putting it all back again? I have a large - what I call a Memory Box - that I occasionally do that with. I find it therapeutic. Although next time I need to add the nap to the process! Brilliant!

  11. I am glad that appointments went well and no pain. Good photos that you shared. I like the adorable dogs. My oldest brother said that I don't like dogs. I do like dogs especially the ones that I know. I remember years ago when I was on bicycle in an area in Halsey, that a dog started running after me and almost got me. Good thing that the man finally stopped the dog. Have a good weekend with family and friends and good weather!!
    Blessings, Becky

  12. I get you when you talk about keeping it real. I think most of us live lives similarly. I generally relish the days when I have no where to go and can live with no makeup, a sports bra and what we call "soft clothes" which means everything is loose fitting and usually unmatching.

  13. I smiled through this whole post. I love the authenticity of it! I also love the drama meme with Betty. Like I tell my mom, I don't like drama but I don't mind hearing about other's drama. LOL!

  14. Ah, Billie Jo. You know how much I adore you and all your realness :)
And I am so very thankful that your appointments have gone smoothly. It really does help to have the kindest and most patient medical practitioners. I am lucky to have an amazing dentist, although, he tells me that Lily is his favourite patient. Xx

  15. Glad to hear the test results were all clear, and it sounds like you still managed to find some good moments in a very full week. The dinner and that stormy evening of playing dominoes sound especially nice.

  16. Now...onto my comment for you, Billie Jo...thanks for always being real here. When I'm at home, I'm always in sweat pants and a t-shirt. And I can't believe you're not afraid of the dentist! I'm deathly afraid of going to the dentist and I have an amazingly sweet and gentle dentist, but still...Oh, and the memes...hahaha! Love them! Especially the drama one and the one about not going out after 8pm. This is me, for sure! Have a wonderful weekend and happy packing :)

  20. Always wonderful to visit, where to begin? The ice cream cake is amazing. What talent! And the toxic trait – oh yes, that’s me! I have three appointments I need to make, and I love that you’re letting me know you have the post appointment treat also! I’m all for a pink drink from Starbucks or frozen chocolate from Dunkin. I love the family cookout – what a great way to unwind and spend time together - as it should be. I hope you’re settled in on this day of rest - a day to recharge for the week to come. Enjoy it all!

  21. Good to get all the checks in the block done. Yes, always treat yourself after all the appointments. I always do. Your keeping busy with homeschooling and purging. I have to do more of the purging :) Great photos of you and your dear family, your sweet furry family too. Yummy food, such a pretty cake. Thank you for those great memes. I am a big fan of Pinterest (my post today) but I haven’t seen any of these yet. So cute! Have a wonderful week ahead Billie Jo and thank you for another delightful post.

  23. I'm so glad that your appointments went well, Billie Jo. Praying that you don't have long to wait to hear the results from the dermatologist. I actually have a dermatology appointment at the end of this month to have a place on my face seen about. I'm at peace with it, however it turns out, because God promises to never leave me nor forsake me. He will get me through. xx Praying for you, my sweet friend. xx
