If you have been reading here for any length of time, you know just how much I love holidays. We celebrate them all, from the grandest to the most mundane. Lately, however, I am beginning to appreciate the beauty in the simplicity of the ordinary days. I am learning to enjoy them for what they are, individual gifts of love, joy, and peace opened each and every morning. These ordinary days are much more than the period of time between the excitement of the holidays. Rather they are moments of quiet, regularity, consistency, and peace. These are the days that lay the foundation for the memories our children will hold in their hearts forever.
I remember my mother's bright yellow kitchen, decorated with plastic daffodils. I still think of Sunday spaghetti dinners spent there when I see those beautiful flowers. I think back to my mom and dad enjoying their morning coffee together when I sip my own cup on a quiet spring morning. Holidays and special days are festive indeed. But the ordinary days that come between are even more special when we take the time to savor them, don't you think?
Have a cozy day, my friends.
Thank you for visiting!
I could not LOVE this post anymore! I agree totally! We had this horrible, bright yellow pineapple wallpaper in our kitchen and it is what I remember most fondly about my childhood!! It makes me feel so safe and comfortable to see pineapples now - weird I know but totally true!!! HUGS Annster's Domain
ReplyDeleteOrdinary is the best. Have a wonderful ordinary day!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love. I like nothing more then finding joy in the ordinary!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, my sweet friend...absolutely! Now you've reached my heartbeat for sure! Some days I look across the room at a sun puddle and think to myself, "just stop and enjoy it because it may not be there tomorrow." Or I look across the room at my sweet man who loves me for just who I am and I feel so blessed that we've been able to share 47 years of married life together...most of them the ordinary days. Bless you, dear one, for sharing the joy of the ordinary days with me. xx
ReplyDeleteSimple is the best! I love holidays and family gatherings but sometimes it's just nice to sit back and take it all in rather than the hustle and bustle life has to offer. I seem to be on the go all the time but once in a while I slow down and you know what, it's really nice!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week Billie Jo!!

So well said. Yes, the ordinary days are often the most special and the ones we remember best.
ReplyDeleteEmbracing the ordinary is one of the perfect ways to living a full life. xx Susan
ReplyDeleteA perfect post and my sentiments exactly! My mother had a bright yellow kitchen, too, and white curtains with red & yellow checks on the bottom. The sun poured into that room and I remember drinking "coffee" when I was just a kid-that was mostly milk.
ReplyDeleteEach day really is a celebration, isn't it, of all the little mundane things we sometimes take for granted.
Have a wonderful week.xoDiana
Oh yes, ordinary days are perfect:) I am trying to slow things down a bit, time is flying by too fast. Enjoy your ordinary day dear friend, HUGS!

ReplyDeleteOrdinary time is my favorite! I like the pace of a regular normal day. Holidays always stress me out.
ReplyDeleteI'll be moving to a new home in a month or so. I look forward to building a new life of simply ordinary.
ReplyDeleteLove this and agree! Even in the difficult times (as you know a bit about what I'm going through) - I still find and appreciate the everyday wonderful blessings around me. Even in the most ordinary of places and moments 😊 ❤️
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. Those ordinary days are what make up most of our lives.
