Holiday Home Tour...Part Three

Welcome back, my friends! Come on in, pour yourself a cup of tea, coffee, or cocoa and join me as we take a peek into our hearth room and kitchen area all decorated for Christmas. : )

Right around the corner from the family room is our little hearth room. This is the room we gather in to visit, read, or sit and watch the fire on cold winter mornings.

There is a little wooden table that holds a yummy smelling candle...

that makes it feel nice and cozy.

The love seat is comfortable and cozy too...

and is right next to our little holiday tree.

It is decorated with wooden candy canes and little signs with notes to Santa himself. : )

And here is our little Brownie and his Brownie Boot, given to me by my dear mother when Madison was born. It is the same Brownie that rested on my fireplace when I was a little girl.

This is the mantle...all lit up and ready for the season.

And a few sweet pillows on my favorite rocker keep things cozy.

This is the view of the hearth room from my kitchen sink. The kitchen is directly across from the hearth room. It is nice when I am working in the kitchen, because I can still be part of things!

It is an open area, so we can visit from most any point in the downstairs. : )

This little corner always holds my seasonal candle and special holiday treats.

This is the scent I have burned in my Christmas home for years. It is the smell of Christmas at home, according to my children.

And this is cranberry orange coffee cake my Madison made for our afternoon tea. It was delicious!

Christmas soap is a must, right?

Around the corner is my apron rack...

with aprons old and new. This one my grandmother Mildred made for us little ones to wear.

I keep a picture of her right underneath, as well as a handwritten copy of her pumpkin pie recipe I make every single year. : )

This little shelf holds tea cups that once belonged to my great-grandmother Grace, as well as our Christmas cookbooks.

And this is the eat-in area of the kitchen.

This is the view as you enter from the hearth room...

and this is the beautiful new centerpiece I got this year from an amazingly talented woman on Etsy. I am glad people share their talents!

Just a little reminder next to a dish of Christmas treats for visitors as they come into our home...

Behind the table is our Santa center. Here is where we display our collection of Santas...old and new.

And of course, a Santa table must have a North Pole candle burning on it, right? : )

On the other side of the table is my desk and the memory wall of loved ones who came before and enjoyed special Christmas memories of their own.

This is the view as you enter the kitchen from the mudroom...and in the spirit of keeping it real...yes...that is a puppy pen in my kitchen. Mocha likes to be in the center of the action! : )

This little wooden table sits next to the door from the mudroom into the kitchen...

and offers festive treats to visitors and family alike.

Right next to the kitchen is our mudroom...

with a little table that holds a basket with our puppy leashes and a festive sweet smelling candle that greets guests that enter our home.

And that is that! A way too long post that shares some of our country home at Christmas. Thank you for visiting, and be sure to come back next Monday for the last post in the series where we will take a look at some decorations upstairs in the bedrooms.

Have a cozy week, my friends!

Time To Light The Pink One

We are off to Mass for the Third Sunday of Advent...and my little one is happy. Happy because tonight we will light the pink candle. And all will be right with her world. Tomorrow we will wrap gifts for loved ones, scrub bathrooms and bedrooms, and try a new recipe for a Hot Chocolate Poke Cake. Christmas is coming, my friends. Enjoy this blessed season!

My Oldest And My Youngest

So this happened. The other night, Steve, Peyton, Rhett, and I went to see the movie Mockingjay Part 2. And yes, it was amazing. But that is not what this is about. This is about what happened while we were gone. My oldest and my youngest had a special night together. Just the two of them. Madison got a gingerbread house kit for the two of them to do together. And when we arrived home, I walked in and saw two of my children...my firstborn and my baby standing proudly side by side with their sweet gingerbread houses. I can't really explain the feeling I had in my heart at that moment. It was as if I saw a piece of my life before my eyes. The baby I had so many years ago teaching and helping and loving the one I had just a few years ago. Maybe it is the season, or just that I am getting older, but that moment touched my heart in a very special way. Oh, and did I mention Madison also helped Flynn make Christmas tree ornaments out of popsicle sticks and buttons too? It was a good night. And once again, I realized how quickly life passes. And to savor every moment. : ) Madison snapped a few pictures on her phone, so I would be able to keep some memories of their special night together.

Afternoon Tea At Christmastime

This special time of year passes quickly. It is very easy to treat these festive days as we would any other, wrapped up in our day to day responsibilities and commitments. This year, the children and I decided to make certain we relished these days of waiting. We wanted to make each and every single day special. And so we decided to take a break each day for afternoon tea. We chose 4:00, as Madison is home from work, the kids are finished with school, and the darkness is just about to descend upon us for the evening. We call it afternoon tea, but only two of us...Madison and I...drink tea. Peyton and Flynn enjoy milk in their special Christmas cups, and Rhett...well, Rhett enjoys his drink of choice...V8 Splash. : ) Some days we have cookies, others a piece of chocolate, or as on this day...homemade muffins. Today, we had fresh cranberry with white chips and double chocolate chip to choose from. What we snack on or what we sip isn't what matters. It is the moments we share, my children and I, gathered around our old wooden kitchen table as the light fades on another day spent together. That is what is important. And this is what I will hold in my heart for the rest of my life. Something as simple as a few tea cups and some muffins...some laughter and some smiles...this is what I hold dear this Christmas time. And what I hope my children will too. : )
