Now that the pesky groundhog is out of the way, it is time to look ahead to the special days coming up in February. When my kids were little, and my husband was working long hours, we celebrated everything and anything during the long winter months. It wasn't elaborate, maybe cupcakes and festive paper plates, or special necklaces for Mardi Gras, which we still use, by the way, or coloring pages and a special dinner. We had fun. So much fun. In fact, we may even pull out those special Mardi Gras necklaces and eat King Cake together in a few weeks. Stay tuned! Now, mark your calendars, my friends. Here are some days you may want to remember!
Anything you are looking forward to? Have a cozy Wednesday, my friends!

All those days are worth celebrating! The only thing I am looking forward to is Spring!
ReplyDeleteWhile I was teaching, we would celebrate all types of special days each month. For my students, we modeled and taught appropriate behaviors during our celebrations as well as tried new foods.
ReplyDeleteYay for celebrating! We all need it. Some people around my house also celebrate the Superbowl! I'm with Jeanette - I'm looking forward to Spring! : )
ReplyDeleteI love the way your family celebrates! And there's lots to celebrate in February. Our daughter was born on Valentines Day so that's a special one!
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids were little I tried to do the same. It really does make winter go by a little easier. I'm sure we'll tune into the Olympics here and there. I love watching the ice skating. We do enjoy celebrating Valentines Day but we'll be out of town that day. I used to use my heart shaped cookie cutters and make heart shaped pancakes and also cookies. Sometimes a heart shaped cake. I'll be sure to do something special for them.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to things this month. We will watch the Olympics, have made our reservations for our Valentines celebration, will make gumbo and king cake doughnuts for Mardi Gras, have lunch with friends a couple of times, have a day trip with my relatives, and have a nice visit with DIL's parents who will be in town from Switzerland.
ReplyDeleteHello, Bilie Jo!!! We also did the same thing when our children were younger. As they have become young adults it can be more difficult to get them all together BUT we do Thursday Family Dinner where all of our kids make it a priority to come over and Sunday after church as well. That has really helped us stay connect. BUT FOR FUN moments...We have been trying to do theme movie nights with foods every three months. It is a BIG DEAL!!! As far as this month, we will celebrate my hubby's birthday and make a special dinner for Valentines!! Thanks for the idea about Mardi Gras!!!
ReplyDeleteI always loved following on your blog and on insta all the little celebrations you would do. Thank you for all the times you gave me ideas from it as a fellow momma! :) I look forward to the Olympics - so much fun to watch. And Valentines Day ever since a certain tall cutie came into my life (& he's a romantic too💗) Hope you're staying cozy. xo
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago we made reservations to visit a Gulf Coast town but all of this cold weather led us to cancel with hopes to re-book when the weather can be counted upon to be warm. So I'm looking forward to when we can move forward with that. Other than that, every day is a blessing to one extent or another and for that I am so thankful.
ReplyDeleteso much to celebrate during the month of February and it is so fun Billie Jo to watch how your family celebrates big time! You sure add a lot of fun to the blogging world..
ReplyDeleteThat is sweet what you did with the kids. Wow, February is a busy month! I will watch some of the Olympics. We don't do much on Valentine's day anymore but I do mail out cards. Our daughter-in-law's birthday is on the 14th. We will be going out to dinner to celebrate on the 15th.
ReplyDeleteI have two special birthdays, My eldest daughter and eldest grandson!
ReplyDeleteSo many holidays in February! You have a great celebratory spirit, Billie Jo. We are planning on celebrating two birthdays this coming Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI'm heading to North Carolina to see family at the end of the month so I am counting down the days and hoping their weather is much, much warmer than ours!
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet heart house header! Wow, I had no idea how much is going on in February till you listed it! I am looking forward to the Olympics!
ReplyDeleteThe last comment about your heart house header and the Olympics was me, Ginny. Every so often for some reason blogger make me anonymous.
ReplyDeleteHappy February! On Valentine's Day we're having our camping group over for the 2nd annual Valentine's Cupcake decorating. I bake the cupcakes and buy lots of frosting and toppings. We get pizza and then decorate to our hearts content. The next Saturday is our churches youth fundraiser, "Florentino's". They make spaghetti and Alfredo sauce, breadsticks all from scratch. Desserts too. Then the youth dress up in black and white and serve everyone. They even rent a commercial kitchen to make all of the meatballs the day before. The kids do it all with just a little supervision. It's very impressive since we're a fairly small neighborhood church. They've been doing this for almost 40 years! We started it when we were youth leaders before moving to Spokane. We moved in 1993 so it's been happening a LONG time. It's grown to where people bring their relatives and friends too. Our church is less than 100 people and yet they serve over 400 people every year! And we all have fun.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
