What do you get when you combine two adults, one teenager, three dogs, two suitcases, and one duffle bag, with random road trip items like blankets, snacks, water bottles, phone chargers, earbuds, loose change, various receipts, and the old Walmart bag used for trash? Well, you get us, yesterday! Steve, Flynn, Marty, Cosmo, Mocha, and I made the trip from Maryland back to PA yesterday, and it went smoothly...for the most part. We left around 3:00 PM and arrived back at the lake about 10:00 PM. That was with only two quick stops, one at a Sheetz convenience store and gas station that we always stop at because we know it has clean restrooms. And one more at a McDonald's because I neglected to have my coffee that morning! How? How is that possible? Well, I tend to switch into "Trip Mode" on days we travel, which involves rapidly cleaning our bathroom, changing our bedsheets, and vacuuming, so it is fresh and clean when we get home. Thus, no coffee. This became apparent to me somewhere along the way when I began to get the telltale headache. At that point, Steve got me some Tylenol at the Sheetz with the clean bathrooms, but he bought the small plastic packets that are impossible to open. I went into the store with the package of pills, and because I felt weird about walking around with pills, I went to the cashier before I went to the restroom, and told her my husband had just purchased these pills and we were unable to open them. She was very kind and told me she didn't have any scissors, but asked if she could use a pocket knife to do it. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so pocket knife it was. Then I had to think about going into a Sheetz restroom with open pills. Thankfully, my teenage daughter took them and zipped them up in her jacket. Once we were all done, we returned to the car, where Steve was trying to keep three dogs settled, and my headache was in rare form. It was then that I began to second-guess the whole pocket knife situation, but at that point, I didn't care where they came from. I swallowed those Tylenol, and we were on our way. That is, after Steve said I should go into the Sheetz right in front of me to get a coffee. Nope. No Sheetz coffee for me. Why, you ask? As did Steve. Well, I don't have a go-to at Sheetz. It would have taken too much time and effort to figure out what I wanted, so off we went. Soon enough, Steve found a McDonald's, and I was sipping my Pumpkin Spiced Iced Coffee as if my life depended on it. After a few true crime podcasts, we were pulling into the driveway and doing all the things you do when you arrive after a long drive. For me, it was unpacking, washing my face, brushing my teeth, and getting my jammies on before snuggling on the couch with the pups.
Today I have a doctor's appointment—just a checkup — tomorrow we have a dentist appointment, and this weekend a wedding. We also plan on spending lots of time with Peyton and Chris, visiting Heather and my friend Delane, and hopefully seeing my sister Margie. Flynn and I are planning on school while we are here too. Then we will pack up and make the return trip home, just in time for Halloween! Ok, I need to head to the doctors. I always get the first appointment of the day if I can. Fewer germs that way. Plus, I get it done and can go home, shower, and be all set for the day. Ok, my friends. Have a great day! Thanks for visiting!
Leaving you with a few days of walking photos from the past few days.

I would be weazy also. I carry all sorts of drugs with me in a case in my purse. I am like a walking pharmacy. But I know where the meds are and where they come from. I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteSounds like quite the adventure! I get the need caffeine headache without my coffee too - so relate there. :) Glad you made it home safely and it sounds like you have some wonderful busy fun ahead! Enjoy my Friend. xo
ReplyDeleteSo this happened to me this summer! Except my vice is Ibuprofen. And we stopped at the absolute busiest Kwik Trip I have ever been in and I thought I was going to die. When I have a headache people get very very overstimulating for me and everything was just too much!
ReplyDeleteI love a quick trip with beautiful views, minus the headache! Thank you for checking in on me. I needed a nudge to catch up my blog. I had too much to talk about and sometimes it's hard to get a post done in a very busy life. Sending HUGS and PRAYERS your way!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful views you shared, Billie Jo! I hope your appointment goes well. Enjoy your time at the lake with your family and friends.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have a really busy time coming up! It makes me tired just reading about it. Yet your photos are so calming. Especially the reflection ones are so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteHi Billie Jo. Glad you had a safe road trip, and were able to find some acceptable coffee to deal with your headache. Great pictures. You have a lot going on this week and weekend, so enjoy! See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteLife without coffee is almost unbearable! I would have had a major headache also.
ReplyDeleteBillie Jo, I love cleaning my house before a trip too! It's the only way to come home after being gone. Then I unpack right away and put everything in its place. I hope all your Dr. visits come out great :) Then back to cozy on the couch :)
ReplyDeleteCoffee is the second thing I drink each day, right after a half glass of water. Definitely addicted to the caffeine!
ReplyDeleteGlad the pills got opened for you. And that you got the coffee the way you wanted it. That's the best, when you get the one that's you love. Love that for you!!!
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or are things absolutely impossible to open these days - Yikes, getting old?! The only hack I can share is if I’m in the car and can’t get something open. I usually can stab it with my car/house keys! And I completely understand about having a go-to. I’m one of those people who has to look at a menu before I go somewhere new so I don’t dilly -dally while I’m seated. All that being said, it looks like a terrific road trip with pups to snuggle and family to lend a hand. Headaches can be the worst. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos, hope you’re all settled in and enjoying the day.
ReplyDeleteglad you were able to get the Tylenol and coffee needed for your head ache. You captured some neat pictures on your road trip. Road trips are so much fun aren't they...of course, they are much better if you don't have any aches and pains. I know you are looking forward to the weekend and I hope you all enjoy every moment of it..
ReplyDeleteUgh to the headache. Glad some Tylenol and coffee fixed you up! I always clean before we head on a trip. I don't want to come home to a messy house. I also unpack as soon as I walk in the door. I hope the weekend with your peeps is great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, so peaceful. Headaches are misery. Hope they stay away!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your real life experiences. We all have them and there's a comfort to see what others have gone through. Like you, I get lack-of-coffee headaches, too. They are real.
ReplyDeleteYour walking pictures are lovely. :). Hope all went well at the doctors.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos and I'm glad you got home safely. You have a busy few days ahead!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAn eventful journey! I'm glad you managed to shake off that headache in the end.
ReplyDeleteI'm 'road-tripping' tomorrow, but only for an hour and a half. Does that count?
