Monday Morning Coffee Talk

Good Monday morning! Welcome to summer! When I came down this morning and opened the door, I was met with that indescribable feeling of a perfect summer day. This week we will see summer temperatures arrive in our part of the world. Those sunny, sweltering days always bring memories of summers past, when central air conditioning was not yet a thing, and afternoons were spent behind my mom's heavy curtains to keep out the sun. Big box fans were set on the ground, and the lights were turned off. After dinner was outside time, playing kickball with our neighbor Ronnie or cutting through the jaggerbushes to the 3rd Street playground. Summers have changed, but the feeling of summer stays the same.

Not too much on the calendar for today. I will fill in my planner for the week, throw in some laundry, ice my hand, write out some cards and bills, call my mom, and make a few phone calls. Dinner is some chicken on the grill with some yet-to-be-determined sides. Any ideas? Have a wonderful day, my friends. Thanks for visiting!

  1. It is HOT here and so humid. I remember summers as a kid. They were so fun and seemed to last forever. Now time just flies by too quickly.
Have a wonderful day Billie Jo.

  2. Dinner here in the summer is always grilled protein, a fruit salad and then a steamed veggie or garden salad. Quick, easy, keeps the kitchen cool. Summers do seem to pass quickly these days, I am glad you're enjoying it for what it's worth!

  3. Hi Billie Jo. Sounds like a perfect summer day you have planned. Chicken on the grill sounds good. My side of choice would be potato salad, but does required some work to get ready. I hope you have a great day and a nice week. See you again soon! :-)

  5. You know summer is my favorite! Look at those beautiful pots of fresh herbs growing there. Seems like the basil needs to be in or on the chicken with some pasta. Hope you have a wonderful summer week!

  6. It is beginning to warm up here, too. The big HOT will come Wednesday and Thursday with predicted highs of 90 and 93. Ugh. Much too hot in June! I do remember those days of no A/C, but I don't remember having long stretches of unbearable heat back then. Maybe a day or two of it here and there, but the fans seemed to do just fine. Or are we now just so spoiled by A/C? We never sleep with the windows open these days and I miss waking up to the birds (or when I slept later, the church bells). I have dug out the popsicle molds and will be making different flavors for the grands...and the ones my grandma used to make...frozen fruit cocktail. It was the best treat on a hot day, but I am sure my grands will not even try it. Love them, but they are soooo picky! lol Have a lovely week and as we all said in our jr. high yearbooks, "Stay cool!"

  7. Hi Billie Jo~ I remember those warm summer days with no A/C as well, those were the good ol' days! We would leave the windows open all night and then get up early to close the blinds to keep the cool air in. Playing with friends outside was just a normal thing for kids to do...literally gathering under the street light, playing night games and knowing that when your mom called you inside, you hurried. I fear that those days are long gone, but they were so fun! Your view is amazing, enjoy the sunshine! Hugs, Barb

  8. SO wonderful. We have had nothing but rain and cold. In fact the there is a snow advisory for the mountains. Crazy! But it does keep me inside sewing.

  9. Hi. I hope your hand is feeling better - ice definitely helps a lot. We are expected to be in the upper 90's all week with heat index around 102 - 103 degrees. Too hot for me! We are off to karate this afternoon for the first time since March of 2020. Charlotte is ready to get back at it. If you have zucchini or squash you could throw that on the grill with the chicken or maybe just an easy side salad. I'm trying to decide what to make for dinner, as well. I came across a recipe for Shrimp Banh-Mi so maybe I'll make that. Stay cool, my friend!

  11. I just love the pictures that you share. I wish we lived close so that I could come over and we could enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the beautiful view on your deck. When I was reading your description of childhood summers, they truly sounded like the ones I had as well. We lived on a dead end street and the neighbor kids and I would play kick ball often. Hugs to you friend! ~Juli

  13. That is such a pretty photo of the water with the sun coming through the trees. And you got the most special deer visitor. He looks like a young one. I hope your hand is healing nicely. And I loved hearing about your Summer days when you were growing up. Isn't it funny how we remember that special neighborhood friend? What a delightful post today, Billie Jo.
