Monday Morning Coffee Talk

Good morning my friends! How was your weekend? I hope it was everything you hoped for and then some. We had a wonderful weekend here filled with family, food, fun, and a few cozy naps thrown in for good measure. Friday evening Peyton and Chris came for Fish Fry. After dinner, we played a really fun game called Worst Case Scenario. I will link it Here. Then we enjoyed the treat Peyton brought...homemade cinnamon rolls! Delicious!

Saturday afternoon, Flynn and I had a wonderful visit with my mom. We took dinner to her...McDonald's! She was so happy! Although she enjoyed the fries and the hamburger, she loved the chocolate milkshake the most!!! After we ate, I went through her closet and drawers and pulled out some of her winter items to make room for some new, bright spring things I had brought. My mom has always loved playing cards, so Flynn brought a deck of cards, and we played Go Fish and War. Mom did great and was so happy! I had a moment as she and Flynn were playing, where I realized once again how amazing the circle of life is. It seems it was only yesterday that Mom played card games with a toddler Flynn, fresh from a bubble bath and in cozy jammies, helping her with numbers and counting.

On that note, I am sharing a photo of the wall in our dining room. I may have shared it before, but I recently completed it with a few final photos I just had framed. These photos are no longer in albums or boxes. They are hanging in our home, reminding us of the people who came before us. These people lived and loved and celebrated all the special and ordinary days we do now. My great-grandfather as a young man from Italy, and then years later, with his wife. My grandmother as a little girl with a bow in her hair much like the one my Flynn wore, my daddy as a little boy with the same black hair, and another on the day he married my mom. My mom as a smiling little girl with a birthday cake holding four candles. Steve's father as a young serviceman, and his mother as a beautiful young bride. When we gather around our dining room table, we look to these people who years ago did the same and are reminded that we too are links in the chain in this blessed thing called life.

Have a wonderful Monday, my friends.
Thanks for stopping in!

And continued prayers for the brave and suffering people of Ukraine.

  2. Moms are very special. I miss mine so enjoy yours all you can. And, on another note... I am sitting here with my tummy telling me it's time to eat and I come across the picture of those rolls. Okay, now I have to get up from here and maybe I will find me something as enticing.

  6. I love that wall, what a great thing for your kids. We grew up with all the paintings of ancestors from Sweden going up our staircase. Clear back to the 11th century. It was a creepy walk up those stairs at dusk. Also we had a great Uncle that lived with us for a few years before he passed away. He had terrible arthritis and was basically bedridden. Dad took the huge walk in pantry off the kitchen and turned it into a bathroom and then added on a large bedroom, for Uncle Nels. Each of us kids was required to play either cards or chess with Uncle Nels once a day. We would be asked at dinner, have all of you played a game with Uncle? He taught us so much strategy and we entertained him. Days were long and he was home alone until we kids came home from school. Lovely man, he died at 52 from heart failure brought on by the arthritis.

  7. Lovely old photos! A great idea to have them out and on the wall. Isn't it neat to look at someone and then realize, oh I have their eyes, hair, smile, etc.? And the cinnamon rolls...ahhh. Looks like a terrific weekend! Mary

  10. What a lovely wall of memories you have created. It is our job to remember those who came before us.. tell their stories so that our future generations can continue to remember. It's sort of like in the movie Coco.

  13. Your Mom must have enjoyed the McDonald's so much! There's nothing like a Big Mac and Fries. So nice that you and Flynn got to visit with your Mom. And do you know Go Fish is my favorite card game haha? Your gallery of wall photos is wonderful, and these are treasured photos for sure. I used to love to look at my Mom's old black and whites and wondered about the story behind them. Peyton's cinnamon rolls look amazing. She's such a good baker. Everything she bakes looks like she made it with love and care.

Yes, dear friend, the circle of life.....and it's very special that you understand and appreciate all the ones who came before you. And your wall is a wonderful display of the circle of life. : )
