Good morning, my friends. I hope this day finds each of you home, healthy, and cozy. We didn't do much this past weekend, and I am not going to feel bad about that. We played a family favorite card game together. We call it 31, but I know some people know it as Knock Knock or Skat. We have been playing every night after dinner, and the kids look forward to it each time.
We watched mass online, went for walks, played outside, cooked together, read, and took naps. Some days I am full of energy and clean bedrooms and baths, change sheets, teach school, and prepare meals. Other days I sip coffee in bed, move to the couch, snuggle under a blanket, and rest. I give myself permission to do all these things because right now is this. This is unprecedented, strange, scary, confusing, and new. We are all making our way through as best we can.
If I may offer a piece of advice, it would be to spend this time in ways you wish. We all have things we said that we would do if only we had the time. And if for you, that time is now, then organize the closets, finish the scrapbooks, paint the kitchen. You have the time. Don't feel pressured, however, to accomplish a major task simply because you are home. If you don't feel like undertaking a huge project right now, you don't have to. Now is not the time to cave to social media pressure or feel bad about yourself if you choose to watch movies or play games with your family. You do you. Do what is best for you, your mental and physical health, and that of your family. Listen to the experts, follow the guidelines, pray if that is something you do, and realize this is our new normal. For now. Not forever.
Always enjoy your posts, Billie Jo. Keeping in prayer.
ReplyDeleteMy 20 yr old college student daughter, who moved back home during this, has been busy. She organized the game closet and the homeschooling/art supply baskets, cleaned and organized the entire pantry, and is eyeing the laundry room...We did a one thousand piece puzzle last night. We haven't gotten bored yet, but I am partial to sitting around, ha. I do not like it that some of my older ones work in hospitals, and the news these days is sobering, but other than that, I don't mind being at home, at all.

These words, "Now is not the time to cave to social media pressure " say it all, my friend. Thank you for putting them right there in front of me this morning! I seldom look at national news anymore...my hubby keeps me informed. I prefer our local news and what our Governor has to say to us in his daily briefings. Stepping away is a good thing. :) Being ourselves is such wonderful advice. I'm like you...some days I do a LOT of housework and then other days I let some things slide. Thanks, Friend, for this encouraging post today.
ReplyDeleteWonderful reminder. I'm a bit like you in that I go back and forth between doing (or trying) to do lots of things and days where nothing happens. Hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteSome days I try to stay busy and others I am just a slug......more of those these days. Am so ready for summer and this to be over.
ReplyDeleteJust by commenting on your post shows you what I'm up too haha, I do have plenty to keep me busy here at home but for now, it's reading blog posts. How fun for your family to hang out and play cards each night. They well forever remember these times and what a great memory to have my friend.
ReplyDeleteHi Billie Jo! I am reading tht exact same book right now! Wow, I am finding it to be a real page turner. Glad you are getting along OK during this time. We are all here, working from home, reading, talking, watching more TV, and trying to get outside and walk every day. Take care and have a good one.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this post! This little block of time set away from the world is definitely a gift.
ReplyDeleteSuch good advice in a rapidly changing environment with continual updates and reviews we are just taking life as it comes and slowly embracing the new normal.
ReplyDeleteIt published before I said take care and stay safe. Thinking of you all.
ReplyDeleteMe too, some days I am busy doing things and some days I JUST CHILL:) Enjoy your time with your family dear friend, HUGS! This too shall pass!
ReplyDeleteIt is comforting to be able to watch Mass on tv, but I really do miss Communion. How fun it is to play card games together. Have never heard of 31 before. It looks like you have been reading too. Now, I'm wondering if you are enjoying "The Broken Girls." ; ) I'm glad to hear you are finding things to do around the house. There is always something left undone that we can get to.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful rest of the week, Billie Jo.

ps....I watched the message from The Pope when he visited St. Basilica Square in Rome. I got tearful at many of the things he said. It is comforting with special words, and if you ever want to see it or read his message, you can check it out online.
So perfectly said my Friend! That's just what we're doing over here. Playing cards, games. Going out for short walks or playing pickleball in the driveway. I tackle some projects but not pushing. I allow myself to just be sad once and a while. We talk as a family about it. Validate how we feel. But we don't live there either and living in routine helps also. I pray you all stay healthy and safe. 🙏
