The Friday Before It All Begins

Happy Friday, my friends! First, Flynn would like to thank you for all the Happy Birthday wishes! She enjoyed reading them as you posted and was so excited! Thank you again for your thoughtfulness. She had a great day.

And now, here we are. It is the weekend before Thanksgiving—the weekend before it all begins! We all have different ways of celebrating these upcoming weeks, and the planning and preparation begin now, if not already. Through the years, I have found that during this time, I am mainly like Buddy...

But sometimes, it all seems too much, and I feel more like Clark Griswald for a moment.

It is important to admit that among all the happy, cozy, festive, family, shiny posts you will see in the upcoming weeks, moments like this one exist. And that is ok. Even if we pledge to cut back and show ourselves some grace, we will have moments when we are overwhelmed. So keep that in mind, and enjoy your home and your family this Christmas season, even if you run out of tape during a late-night wrapping frenzy, forget to buy the special Cranberry Sprite, or if a couple of the bulbs on your prelit tree burn out. (That last one is tough for me!) Your family will remember you and the wonderful Christmastime you shared together.

Remember to stop and enjoy some special things we wait for all year, like Christmas music in the background or a few fun Christmas movies after dinner. In addition to the classics, Rudolph will always have my heart; here are a few of our favorites for the older family members.

This airs on Roku.

Love this one.

This is so good!

And this is new this year!

This weekend, we are decorating our home for Christmas! It is our first in this house, and we are anxious to see how things look. I already did our bedroom and decided to add a soft blanket and some comfy pillows to the quilt we already have. I like the look, and I can keep it up after Christmas.

When the kids were young, we decorated the entire house the day after Thanksgiving. I would carry the tubs up from the basement, and we would turn our home into Christmas as if Cinderella's Fairy Godmother did it with her magic wand. I'm a bit older now and not ashamed to say I do more of this!

And look! Dunkin' has their Christmas cups!!!! Yay!

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends. And remember to thaw your turkey!

  4. Happy Belated Birthday to Flynn! Enjoyed your post this afternoon. Beautiful holiday bedding! Just added ours yesterday. And I can relate to the part about the prelit bulbs burning out, ours did that last year. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and many great holidays in your new home.

  5. Have a cozy weekend decorating the house. It is important to remember the holidays are emotional. We've all lost people we love, traditions have changed, etc. and it hits us. I try to acknowledge how I'm feeling for a moment and then get back to the happiness of the season.

  6. As per usual, I enjoyed this post and all the color, enthusiasm, and cheer that is YOU! While I have not been tasked with cooking the turkey this year (and hope never to have to again), I do need to remember to pick up the 2 pies I ordered and be sure to grab the beautiful Christmas platter we bought as a gift for our hosts. I look forward to your next post (and all the others after that).

  7. I love your leather recliner! And thanks for the movie tips. Too bad we cannot keep these cups!!! Oh, your bedroom is so classy!!! It is really gorgeous!!! I do not have any talent at all for decorating, but you should be an interior decorator. I wish I had an eye for decorating like you do.

  9. Love it all! That bedding is stunning! Yay for this season ahead - of family, great movies, food, quality time and lots of joy! I'm decorating early this year the first time and I'm kind of loving it. Thanksgiving is going to be a smaller group this year. Just flowing with things so much better than when I was younger. Enjoying living in the moment and not sweating the small stuff. I've been through some very difficult times in my life and perspective comes along with wisdom. Gratitude is the word of the day always. Blessings to you dear Friend! xoxo

  10. I buy a fresh turkey because the thought of thawing one for days is too stressful! lol

  11. Our holidays are pretty quiet. David and Liz will join us for both holidays and we are happy and content. :)

  12. I also love that Christmas bedding. We always waited until the day after Thanksgiving, the day I also went out Black Friday shopping at like three in the morning, ugh. We started decorating earlier during the pandemic, when I would do anything to make life fun and special for my kids here. I found I rather liked it. So, we are starting today! Also, Happy belated birthday to the sweet and beautiful Flynn Grace. She is so loved, and she radiates it. :)

  13. Hi Billie Jo. We will be decorating this weekend as well, but nothing at all like we did years back. I hope you have a lovely cozy weekend and that your Thanksgiving gives you much to be grateful for! See you again soon!

  14. Hi Billie Jo. It's good to catch up with you again. We went to see "Red One" today at the theater with friends and then out to pizza. It was a GREAT movie. Full of action and lots of fun too. I highly recommend it. We've been watching Christmas movies on YouTube for the last week or so. Lots of "feel good" movis with romance and decorations that warm the heart.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  18. Tis the season to be jolly!! Your bedding is beautiful. I've pulled back on decorations. Not the big deal it used to be for me but my little tree will go up after Thanksgiving. This year has flown!

  19. Your bedding is lovely. I have a good bit of holiday bedding, but that doesn’t mean I’m not up for more. I am a linen freak, and have a difficult time controlling myself.

  21. You bed looks so charming and comfortable. I love the mistletoe pillow. I noticed your grey sweater. It's pretty, and looks soft and warm. I've been watching several different Christmas shows. Lifetime has a lot of good ones also. Dunkin's Christmas coffee cups are festive!
