Here Comes Peter Cottontail

Years ago, when my children were young, I had a flash of a very distant Easter memory. I couldn't quite pull it out at first, but my younger mind was relentless, and finally, I got there. I remembered a movie about the Easter Bunny we watched once a year called Here Comes Peter Cottontail. My love of children's holiday movies knows no bounds, as you may know, so I set out to find it, and a new tradition was born.

The night before Easter, the kids would set out their baskets, take their "Easter Baths/Showers," and put on their Easter pajamas. Then we would snuggle on the couch and watch Here Comes Peter Cottontail on VHS together. Eventually, the VHS became a DVD, and now, we watch it streaming on Amazon. Those days are gone, but traditions remain. This weekend, we will gather for Easter dinner and watch our favorite movie yet again. My children watch it now, as I do as an adult, but it brings out the child in all of us. And now, in this chaotic, crazy world, that is a good thing.

Now, in fairness to Peyton, I must add that there exists another Easter movie from my childhood. This one is her favorite, and honestly, I love them both for different reasons. This one is called The Easter Bunny Is Coming To Town. It is also available on Amazon.

So, there you go, my friends. A couple of vintage kids' Easter movies that will add some fun to your Easter this year. Being an adult can be tough sometimes. Why not pour out some jelly beans and popcorn, put on an old favorite movie, and have some fun?

That's what we will be doing. And I am glad.
Have a good Wednesday, my friends.

Billie Jo

  4. Isn't it just so special as a parent to watch your adult children adapt some of their childhood favorites? I know it is for me as I watch our adult children and now our adult grandchildren carrying on some of the traditions that started out 50 years ago in a humble home.

  6. Hi friend! I'm back after another long blog break, lol and it was fun catching up with you today! I honestly don't remember either of those movies! I remember dying eggs as a kid on Easter eve- then I remember when the hollow easter bunnies used to have candy eyes lol. I think they need to bring those back, that was my favorite! I'm excited your family still enjoys those traditions together!! And so nice to catch up again :)

  13. When my kids were little we used to watch a Christmas movie called “Small One.” It was about the donkey who carried Mary to Bethlehem. I’ve tried many times to find it for my grandchildren, but it’s not available :( I did find the book, but the movie was so special!

    1. Karen, I found this on IMDB, is it the one you are looking for?
Ordered by his father to sell his old, small donkey, named Small One, a boy in ancient Palestine takes the donkey to the Nazareth market. Finding no buyers there, the boy is about to give up when he meets a kind man named Joseph.

  14. Fun!! 🩷 I have always loved Peter Cottontail, and I've never forgotten the lyrics to the song. When I was in the 1st grade, my class did an Easter program and being young, it was about the Easter Bunny. We sang and danced to that song, and did the bunny hop. Of course, we all had on the cutest outfits. One of my most favorite memories as a 1st grader. Happy Easter Billie Jo to you and your family.

  15. These sound like delightful Easter shows. It's always so nice hearing about your time spent with your little ones. I wanted to get back to you on Little House.....I don't remember what day and time the show played back then, but I love that you remember. And all the seasons are on Pluto right now, which I still watch regularly. ; )

Happy Easter to you, Billie Jo.
