Good Monday morning, my friends. How was your weekend? For many, it continues today and is considered the first summer weekend. We had a lovely weekend here, with Saturday being the highlight. Nicolas, my son-in-law, celebrated his birthday! It is hard to believe he is thirty-one. He was just twenty when he flew from his beautiful home of Denmark to meet Madison. Madison had a lovely party at their home. Then we celebrated Nicolas with a fun dinner at one of his favorite restaurants overlooking the water, with the most beautiful sunset view.
Happy Birthday, Nicolas! On Sunday, we crossed the bridge to the ocean to spend a few days at the condo. We are only about fifteen minutes from the beach, which makes it very easy.
We arrived just in time for the sunset. We ate dinner, watched an episode of Seinfeld, and headed to bed. Or, at least I tried to, until I found this little guy had gotten there first.
Today, we commemorate Memorial Day. How we do it is very different from how it was years ago. In those days, we rose early, put on our matching Old Navy flag shirts, decorated paper bags, and headed downtown for the parade. After that, we took the kids to pick out flowers, and they each planted their own summer arrangement. Today is much more low-key. We will have a quieter day with a movie and sloppy joes for dinner. And that's just fine with me. No matter how we spend the day, I try to remember why we have parades, cookouts, and long weekends.
Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2025 falls on Monday, May 26. - history.com

Have a lovely day, my friends. Thank you for visiting!

ReplyDeleteBelated birthday wishes to Nicolas!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your few days at the condo. Xx
Oh, my goodness, Friend. That quote at the end about the flag is powerful! xx
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Nicolas. Love the photos of them. How wonderful to go to the condo and watch that beautiful sunset. The saying with the flag is so true. Thank you for sharing it. Hope you have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday wishes to Nicolas! The sunset you featured is gorgeous, Billie Jo. The quote with the flag graphic is inspiring. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is very moving. A fitting tribute for the day we are celebrating today.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful weekend and happy birthday to Nicolas! Lots of birthdays for your family all at once.
We had sloppy joes for lunch today. It's been chilly and rainy all weekend which is typical for Memorial Weekend here in Nebraska. Too bad for those out camping, but cozy when you're at home.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Their kitchen is really pretty, too! What a lovely beach sunset.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week ahead!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet weekend! And a true sentiment worth remembering.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Nicolas! How can he be 31 already? Time truly flies. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI mean... I'm sure you didnt move that precious baby off the pillow, right? LOL.... I've had to play bed tetris many a night to not move or bother my comfy doggie HEHE
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Nicolas! I hope it was a wonderful weekend. And yes, God's blessings to all of our military people that sacrificed so much. ❤️💙
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Nicolas. They are a beautiful couple.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Nicholas, and lovely post but you know how I feel about sloppy joes.
ReplyDeleteAnother darling mug and pretty book you started us off with today Billie Jo. So glad you had a lovely long weekend. Happy Birthday Nicolas! It sounds like he had a sweet celebration with Madison’s splendid party and then the birthday dinner at the restaurant, and finishing off with a trip to your condo. A gorgeous sunset to be sure! Your photos showed what a great time you all had. G.K. Chesterton’s and also the unknown author of that second beautiful photo, both very poignant. A belated and blessed Memorial Day to you all.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Nicholas.
ReplyDeleteOur long weekends and other holidays have become much more low-key around here too. And I am perfectly okay with that:) Happy birthday wishes to Nicholas - sounds like a lovely celebration!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a wonderful weekend and how nice to be so close to the water!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Nicolas. That's a cute picture of the two of them. The red and white Denmark theme is delightful that Madison used to celebrate his birthday. That cloud photo is so pretty, and you know your coffee cups delight me. That one is perfect for your tiime at the beach.
