Some of Our Summer So Far

Nightly visits from some friends

Mornings on the porch with my pup

Happy visits with my beautiful mom

Lunch with my girls at Eat'n Park

Allergies. And then an added bonus of Pink Eye!
Why not, right?

Fresh pups all ready for the holiday

Brownies for the return of our Monday night Bachelorette viewing

Snuggling inside. Because allergies and wildfire smoke

And a Mango Mister Misty for me with a twist dish for Flynn

Tomorrow is July!
Enjoy, my friends!

Monday Morning Coffee Talk

Hello, my friends! I am back, feeling semi-human and happy to be here. As I thought about the post this morning, I thought I might be so bold as to share a wonderful piece of advice my therapist shared with me once. She told me that I should show myself compassion. What do I do when my friend is sick, or a family member needs help? I offer to ease their burden in some way. I want them to feel better. Why, then, when I am feeling ill or anxious, do I not offer myself that same compassion? And you know what? I had never thought about that!

Being sick, even with a bad case of allergies, left me unable to be me. My schedule did not exist; I didn't pack lunches, make a menu plan, heck, I didn't even cook! I took pills, drank water, slept, and tried to not worry about everything I wasn't doing. And you know what? Things got done. Others cooked, unloaded the dishwasher, vacuumed, and picked up dinner. They reminded me that I could just be. They showed me compassion and reminded me to do the same for myself.

I thought about how when I was young and sick, my amazing mother would put me in the tub, change my bedsheets to crisp, clean ones, and tuck me in before reading to me. I thought about how when my own kids were sick, I gave them a bath with Baby Magic Calming Bath and then slathered them with lotion before putting fresh jammies on them. So today, I did the same for me. I soaked my feet, sprayed some eucalyptus shower spray, put on some spa music from my Spotify playlist, and took a long hot shower. I got out my special body scrub and oil and moisturized my skin. I took my time and took care of me. I'd like to finish by telling you I wrapped myself in a soft, fluffy robe, but that would be a lie. True to myself, I threw on my favorite old Halloweentown sweatshirt and a pair of shorts. What can I say?!

Some of my favorite things...

My shadow who never left my side...

And a new favorite I discovered while searching for something to watch. It is on Roku and is totally free!

Thanks for all the love, my friends!
I will be around to visit!
Miss you!

Allergeez!!!!

Hello! I'm still here! Just experiencing the worst allergy season I can remember. Sore throat when I swallow, cough, and congestion, (Not looking for sympathy...just in case you may have something similar.) The doctor said no fever and no swollen glands. No infection. The Flonaze he prescribed is helping, so there's that! Have a good weekend, my friends. I'll be back Monday morning!

Monday Morning Coffee Talk

Good Monday morning! How was your weekend? I hope it was everything you hoped it would be. Our weekend was amazing, highlighted by two special events. Saturday, Rhett, Kyrstin, Flynn, Madison, Nicolas, and I traveled to Pittsburgh to see Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. And it was an experience of a lifetime. Madison is the biggest Taylor Swift fan ever, and I was so happy to be there with her. I wish I could find the words to describe it, but it isn't possible! Taylor Swift performed for three hours straight. She clearly loves what she does and is so happy to see her fans happy. Words cannot do justice to this unbelievable night. So I won't even try.

Sunday was Father's Day! And we honored Steve with a relaxing day at home with dinner of his choice. Which, oddly enough, was burgers on the grill, cooked by him! Thankfully, the kids took care of everything because this old lady is not used to late nights, and we had a wonderful day celebrating Steve. The amount of love he has for each of his children is immeasurable. He was and still is the concert taker, field trip goer, new clothes shopper, and movie partner. In addition, he has taught the kids by words and actions how to be kind, respectful, and caring adults. And I am so thankful for that.

We played a game on the deck, ate dinner, opened gifts, and enjoyed Peyton's homemade strawberry pie!

Happy and Blessed Father's Day to all!
Have a wonderful Monday.
I will be napping if you need me!

Summer Days

Hello! Good Friday morning! Today dawned cloudy and cooler, not unlike most days here in Pennsylvania so far this summer. Flynn took these photos early one morning this week, beautifully showing a typical June morning in our little part of the world.

The weather so far has been more springlike, without the rain. We need rain here, and although each day brings the forecast of showers, we typically see a few sprinkles here and there. Our morning swims in the lake will wait, so until then, we are making due.

This week we celebrated a couple birthdays with some special people. My super sweet friend Heather had a birthday, and we met for dinner. We, of course, managed to wear matching tops and sweaters. Like from the exact place matching. Loft, if you were wondering!

And finally, we celebrated one of Peyton's friends from childhood, Grimace! Did you know McDonald's is celebrating his birthday??? Peyton has always loved Grimace, so we were happy to have lunch and try his birthday shake. Well, they did! Reports are it is delicious. Like a vanilla and strawberry mix?

Before I go, I want to answer a few questions from my last post about my cozy kitchen.

~ I used the vegetables to make an easy pan of seasoned vegetables to go with dinner last night. I chopped up a white potato, a sweet potato, broccoli, cauliflower, a pepper, an onion, zucchini, and carrots and drizzled them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and Mrs. Dash. Then I baked them for about an hour at 375 degrees. The one thing I have learned is to cut the vegetables roughly the same size so they cook evenly.

~The electric kettle is a favorite! Peyton had one and told me how much she loved it. Now we have one and love it too! It heats the water up so quickly. We use it every single day.

~The mat in front of the sink is a cushioned mat that doesn't slip. It also keeps my feet from getting sore. I am trying to remember where I found it, but I am sure Walmart would have something similar.

Well, that is about all, my friends. I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your people. Tonight we plan on visiting my mother with one of her favorites, a strawberry milkshake. Sunday, we celebrate Steve and remember our amazing dads on Father's Day. And in between? Well, I will give you a couple hints...

Yep! We are heading to Pittsburgh to see Taylor Swift! Last November, Madison, Nicolas, and I spent an entire morning maneuvering the Ticketmaster website and were able to get tickets! Madison has been a faithful fan since the very beginning. She has been talking about this tour since before it was even announced. I am so excited for her and am looking forward to a fun evening! I will report back here on Monday.

In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend, my friends.
Thanks for visiting!

Looking Around My Kitchen On A Rainy Morning

Good morning, my friends! It is a rainy Wednesday morning here in Pennsylvania, and I just finished loading the dishwasher and making my coffee. I took a few quick pictures of the state of my kitchen this random June morning to share with you today.

A cake stand with crumbs from a delicious loaf of pumpkin bread...

This cushiony mat that keeps my feet from hurting...

The griddle that I keep forgetting to put away but we use every day anyway...

The folded dishtowel by the sink stained with strawberry juice...

My current read that I brought down this morning...

The electric teakettle I cannot live without...

And fresh vegetables waiting to be seasoned and baked.

Kitchens are the heart of a home, don't you think?

Have a cozy afternoon!
Thanks for visiting!
